Advanced Techniques for Acute and Chronic Pain Management 2016: Including Unique Dissection Anatomy Course and Cadaver-Based Needling Session Using Ultrasound Techniques (Presented by renowned anesthesiologists) Atheneum Suites Hotel and Banquet Center WSU School of Medicine – Scott Hall Detroit, Michigan May 6th and 7th, 2016 Sponsored by In Collaboration With The Symposium Advanced Techniques for Acute and Chronic Pain Management 2016: Including Unique Dissection Anatomy Course and Cadaver-Based Needling Session Using Ultrasound Techniques Target Audience Anesthesiologists, Neurologists, Neurosurgeons, Emergency Medicine Physicians, Residents and Fellows. Educational Objectives This program is unique compared to other anesthesia training programs. The key component of this program is training of ultrasound guided techniques in regional anesthesia on expertly dissected cadavers. For a private practitioner it is difficult to transition from observing ultrasound guided anatomy on a live model to performing a regional surgical block on a patient ready to undergo surgery. We will try to fill this gap. The participants will learn the techniques of ultrasound guided regional anesthesia on cadavers. This program will teach and review the anatomical basis, indications and techniques and complications of regional anesthesia. • • • • Review ultrasound guided techniques of regional anesthesia in the upper and lower extremities, trunk and abdomen. Identify and review indications, anatomy, techniques and complications involved in sympathetic nervous system blocks. Learn to perform advanced pain management techniques such as intrathecal pump implantation, spinal cord stimulation and facet joint rhizotomy for chronic pain management. Discuss and review recent advances in management of chronic malignant and non-malignant pain. Sponsor This program is sponsored by the Department of Anesthesiology of the Detroit Medical Center and in collaboration with Wayne State University, School of Medicine, Department of Anesthesiology; the Michigan Society of Anesthesiologists (MSA); and NorthStar Anesthesia.
