Admission Criteria
Admission is competitive. Asheville School receives more
applications for admission than there are spaces available.
The Admission Committee evaluates a student’s academic
and personal qualities in formulating a recommendation to the
Director of Admission. Ultimately, the Director makes a final
decision whether to accept, accept with some conditions, defer,
wait-list, or decline the applicant. Specifically, the Committee
considers the following criteria:
Interest
The student must want to attend. We look very carefully at the
student’s motivation for attendance. The parents may have
introduced Asheville School, but the prospective student must
view the experience as an opportunity and must participate in
the decision to enroll.
Citizenship
The student must be a good citizen. We must have high confidence that the student will honor our expectations. We do not
accept students determined to be social or behavioral risks.
Scholarship
The student must possess the aptitude and motivation to succeed in a challenging college–preparatory curriculum. We look
closely at the student’s ability, but we look just as closely at the
student’s openness to instruction and willingness to complete
work. Most of our students have been high achievers in their
previous school environments.
Involvement
The student must be someone who will be involved in the life of
the school. Athletics, the arts, mountaineering, clubs, and publications lend Asheville its personality. We seek students who will
contribute energetically to at least one area, or more commonly
several areas, of school life.

April 10 - Deposit and Reservation Agreement Due
Financial Aid Statement
The Parents’ Financial Statement (PFS) must be completed and
sent to the School and Student Service for Financial Aid (SSS) in
Pittsburgh, PA, to be processed by February 1.
• Online – Go to sssbynais.org, and follow the instructions.
Submit copies of your 2016 W-2(s) and 2016 federal tax returns
(1040s) by February 15 to SSS.
• SSS will process W-2s and 1040s as well as PFS forms. The goal is
to make it easier for you to send all the required
documents to SSS instead of to multiple places. SSS will then
distribute tax forms to all schools to which you have applied.
NOTE: You must submit all pages of your 2016 tax return. If you
submit only the first two pages, your financial aid application will
NOT be complete.
Rolling Decision
Applications will continue to be considered after February 1, on
a space-available basis. Historically, financial aid has not been
available to students applying after the February 1 admission
deadline.
Comeback Day
April 1, 2017
All Early Decision and Regular Decision accepted students and
their parents will be invited to attend a special day at Asheville
School. Comeback Day is designed to give accepted students a
chance to meet prospective and current students and parents, to
learn more about academic, athletic, and social life at Asheville
School.

9. Testing
Third Form (9th grade) and Fourth Form (10th grade) applicants

the deadline for Early Decision, students should register for a fall
test date. Regular Decision applicants should register for a fall

want a copy of their scores sent to Asheville School. The Asheville
School code for SSAT is 1396.
Fifth Form (11th grade) applicants may submit results from the

Admission Balance Policy
Asheville School’s Board of Trustees set an admission policy
that Asheville School will maintain a balance of 80% boarding
students and 20% day students with enough flexibility to permit
Asheville School’s balance to become temporarily 75% boarding
and 25% day.
Tuition Fees
Asheville School’s tuition and fees are very competitive with
our other peer institutions. A healthy endowment and successful
annual giving program help us maintain reasonable pricing and
still provide our students the very best in secondary education.
Parents should expect tuition to increase each year. The Board of
Trustees establishes tuition and fees in January for the following
academic year.
For 2016-2017 these are:

The Honor Code
Agreement
Please carefully consider the Honor Code Agreement below.
The Honor Code is an important part of life at Asheville School.
Asheville School admits only students who are willing to endorse this code.
The Honor Code Of Asheville School
The chief purpose of the Honor Code of Asheville School is to foster and preserve honor and integrity
in the Asheville School community. The Honor Code was adopted by the students of Asheville School
by majority vote on Thursday, October 29, 1998.
The Honor Code
I will not lie, cheat, or steal. I will report any violation of the Honor Code.
The Honor Pledge
On my honor, I have neither given nor received aid on this work, nor am I aware of any violation of
the Honor Code.
The Role Of The Honor Pledge
By writing the Honor Pledge on all academic work, Asheville School students reaffirm their commitment to uphold the Honor Code.
The Honor Council
The chief mission of the Honor Council is to foster and preserve honor and integrity in the Asheville
School community by supporting the Honor Code and by meeting with students who have violated
the Honor Code in order to help them gain a better understanding of the importance of honor and
integrity in their lives and in the life of the Asheville School community. While the primary purpose of
the Honor Council is educational, it can, nevertheless, recommend to the Head of School dismissal of
a student who has violated the Honor Code.
I,
,
pledge that all work on the Student Profile is my own. I agree to foster and preserve honor and
integrity in the Asheville School community by upholding and supporting the Honor Code, the Honor
