The Construction Products Directive requires that fire alarm sounders sold in the EU must be third party assessed to EN54-3. Sounders
complying with the standard have the operational data expressed in a specific format that reflects the test methods used and the
limits imposed by the standard. This dual data can cause uncertainty for customers’ as it appears that product performance has
changed. This is not the case, the data is just expressed differently to comply with the standard.
The data displayed in this catalogue represents the operational performance designed by Cooper Fulleon. This information will vary
from the EN54-3 data supplied on certain products, specifically:
Sound Output Figures
Cooper Fulleon figures are measured on axis and represent typical production units. Figures for EN54-3 certified products
are measured 15º off axis and are quoted at least 2dB below the lowest output unit found during testing. Sound and light
outputs published are typical values.
Operating Voltage
The range given for sounders is the voltage over which they will operate reliably, albeit with some variation in sound output
level. The EN54-3 range is defined by the voltage range over which the output of the sounder varies by less than 6dB. Typically
for a 24Vdc sounder this will be 18 to 28Vdc.
IP Ratings
Generally the figures quoted will be the minimum levels verified from EN54 testing, i.e. either IP21C for internal (type A)
products or IP33C for external (type B) units, however in some cases higher ratings will be stated where Cooper Fulleon has
carried out extra testing.
Temperature range
Products complying with EN54-3 will have data showing - 10ºC to + 55º for internal (type A) products and - 25ºC to + 70ºC
for external (type B) products. Again this reflects the minimums imposed by the standard, the internal and external units are
fundamentally the same.

The use of beacons to supplement audible alarms is becoming
increasingly common. A combined sounder beacon allows both
an audible and visual alarm to be provided but requires only a
single installation point. LED beacons have a dramatically lower
current consumption than that of traditional xenon beacons

The Solista Maxi is a high output LED beacon which allows
the user the choice between economy and performance. In the
economy modes the Solista Maxi performs extremely efficiently
requiring as little as 3mA, but it can be switched to attain much
higher light outputs where visibility is the prime objective. For even
greater effectiveness a double flash sequence can be selected.

For both business and leisure, radio technology is now commonplace. Such are the
advances made in wireless technologies in recent years that most people use wireless
devices without a second thought.
Using a new secure wireless system, Radio+ provides a complete fire detection system
without the need for a cabled connection between the field devices and control panel.
Based on well proven components the sensors, sounders, beacons and call points
give Radio+ a highly reliable foundation into which the wireless technology has been

The development of Radio+ has tracked the progress of the European standard

still a number of regional requirements arising from the different national practices that
were in place before the standardisation process began.
For French customers Cooper Fulleon has a range of sounders certified to EN54-3 and

The Firecat is an extremely flexible fire sensor for use with
security or other systems operating at 12Vdc. The unit can be
configured to operate either as an optical, optical-heat, rate of rise

Combi Signalling Unit - Status Indicator
Specification
The foundation of the system is the deep base
pre-assembled into linear units of 2, 3 or 4
pieces. Into the assemblies the user can fit
audible and visual warnings chosen from the
standard ranges of Cooper Fulleon RoLP
sounders, Solex Xenon beacons and Solista
Maxi LED beacons.
The RoLP and RoLP Maxi allow the user
to choose from 32 alarm tones and outputs
in excess of 107dB(A). The Solex Xenon Maxi
beacons are available with three levels of light
output and in five colours, the Solista Maxi
beacons again offer five colours and
additionally three user selectable modes of
operation; steady, single flash, and double
flash. LED beacons also are inherently
robust and have extremely long operating
lifetimes important where access for
maintenance may be limited.
The Combi signalling units provide an extremely flexible system
for the assembly of audible and visual signals that may be used
in applications where different levels of warning or status need to
be communicated.
Supply voltages from 9 to 60Vdc and 110 to
230Vac are available.

Intrinsically safe (IS) systems provide safe operation of equipment
in hazardous areas by limiting the amount of electrical energy in
the circuit to levels where a fault cannot cause a spark that would
ignite any explosive atmosphere that could be present. For an IS
system to operate correctly, both the barrier or isolator and the
devices in the hazardous area must be approved and designed to
work together.

Barriers and Isolators both provide power
limitations on an intrinsically safe circuit, but
work in different ways. Barriers are the simpler,
but require secure connections to a dedicated
IS earth point. Isolators use more complex
electronics but can operate earth-free and are
more tolerant of supply voltage. Both Barriers
and Isolators must be mounted in the safe
area, but as close as possible to the hazardous
area.
