2015 Guaranteed Accommodation Offer
UC Study Abroad Students (One Semester)
A special on-campus accommodation package for Study Abroad and Exchange students has
been developed in conjunction with UC Accommodation Student Village (UCA). This university
owned complex of modern 3, 4, 5 or 6 bedroom apartments is managed by Campus Living
Villages NZ Limited (CLV), an Australian-based company which also manages university
accommodation at a number of universities in Australia, USA, England and New Zealand.
Special Package for Study Abroad and Exchange Students
2015 Package Rate:
NZ$5,645** for a Study Abroad one semester only arrangement.
The package includes the following:







Administration Fee
Accommodation Fees
Utilities charges, including water and electricity
Linen and Bedding Pack
Residents’ Association Fee
A Special Study Abroad and Exchange Welcome Pack
Opportunity to make up for any ‘unused time’ in the student’s contract at another CLV
Village in New Zealand, Australia, the United Kingdom or the United States (subject to
availability). Refer to “Go Explore” below.
**Included is a $300 refundable Contingency Fee. This will be refunded at the end of the
student’s stay, less any deductions for damage, loss, unpaid accommodation fees or fines etc.
Availability Guarantee
Campus Living Villages guarantees the availability of this accommodation package for all
students coming on university-approved Study Abroad or Exchange programmes (verified by
the University of Canterbury’s International Relationships Office), whose applications have
been received before 1 December 2014 for first semester (February 2015 start) or by 1 May
2015 for second semester (July 2015 start). However, all intending residents should note that
the Offer of Accommodation (emailed out following receipt of the application by CLV) has a
two week deadline for acceptance. Late return of the acceptance may result in the loss of the
room. Applications received after the above deadlines will be offered accommodation subject
to availability.
Room placement is at the discretion of the Village Manager and while every endeavor will be
made to place Study Abroad and Exchange students in a Hinau building, these rooms are
subject to availability.
While we believe this package offers excellent value and is the most hassle-free option for
most students, acceptance of the arrangement is not mandatory. Other accommodation
options can be found on the Accommodation Office website.
Application Information
All students who would like to take up this offer must complete the online application form for
accommodation by 1 December 2014 for a February 2015 start, or by 1 May 2015 for a July
2015 start.
The student’s details will be confirmed with the University of Canterbury’s International
Relationships Office and their application will then be processed.
All students should send their arrival details to the Accommodation Office to arrange an airport
pickup. This must be done at least one week prior to their departure.
Accommodation Dates
Accommodation is available for students within the following dates:
Semester One:
Arrival – Monday 26 January 2015 (an earlier arrival date is subject to availability).
An International Welcome will take place on Tuesday 17 February 2015.
Departure – no later than 10.00 am on Monday 29 June 2015.
Semester Two:
Arrival – Monday 6 July 2015 (an earlier arrival date is subject to availability).
An International Welcome will take place on Wednesday 8 July 2015.
Departure – no later than 10.00 am on Monday 7 December 2015.
“Go Explore”
“Go Explore” is an opportunity for any CLV resident, to free accommodation in one of 36 cities
around the globe. Students may stay for no longer than 2 weeks in one other participating
CLV Village in New Zealand, Australia, the United Kingdom, or the United States. The stay
must be taken up either immediately before the start of the academic year or immediately
following a student’s last university commitment at the end of the year.
Students should
notify UCA of their intention to request to take up “Go Explore” at the time of applying for
accommodation and complete the Go Explore Application Form.
