If your ceiling thickness is less than 12mm, deduct approximately 5mm from the ceiling diameter shown above. If the ceiling is thicker than 12mm, gradually increase the hole until a snug fit is acheived. It is always recommended to cut the hole slightly smaller than the above mentioned, then file the hole until the recessed unit fits snugly. Ceiling Preparation 1) Ensure a minimum depth of ceiling void is available. (Use fixing dimensions overleaf) 2) If more than one downlight is to be installed, the distance between units must be no less than 0.3m (30cm). 3) Cut a mounting hole in the ceiling taking care not to foul any pipes or mains cables beneath the surface. (Use fixing dimensions overleaf) 4) Ensure free movement of air around the fitting by removing any roof void insulation from at least 100mm around the hole. Under no circumstances must these fittings be covered with insulating matting or similar material. Attaching the spring clips, friction washers and connection block Silicone rubber washers have been supplied to add friction to the tilt mechanism. To fit simply stretch over one metal lug (see diagram below). Attach the spring clips to the body of the recessed unit by squeezing the sides together and locating the spring coils over the two metal tabs. Ensure the longer arm of the clip is uppermost and the shortest points away from the bulb. Attach the connection block assembly to the recessed unit with the small screw fitted to the unit. Wiring 1) Draw the mains cable through the hole in the ceiling. (Use minimum 1.0mm2 core cable). 2) Remove the cover from the terminal block. 3) Connect the incoming live and neutral cable to the terminals. Live supply to the terminal marked L, (brown wire) and neutral supply to the terminal marked N (blue wire) (See Below). Ensure connections are tight. This unit is double insulated and must not be earthed. If there are any incoming earth cables, they must be joined together and well insulated with good quality insulation tape. This is to ensure earth continuity throughout your property. 4) Replace the cover onto the terminal block. Fitting Decide on the desired direction of tilt before fitting each unit. 1) Point the spring clips upwards and fit the two longer arms into the ceiling hole (See diagram 1 below). 2) Push the unit upward until firmly in position, ensuring that the cable is not trapped. (See diagram 2 below). 3) Fit the bulb into the lampholder by pushing in and twisting clockwise. Do not exceed the maximum wattage. 4) Push the bulb into the unit and secure by refitting the decorative bezel, or the wire retaining clip. 5) Replace the circuit fuse and switch on the mains to test. To adjust tilt downlights push on rim of bulb housing - only adjust when bulb is cold. Bulb replacement 1) Switch off and allow bulb to cool before replacing. 2) Remove wire retaining clip by squeezing tabs together, or turn decorative bezel ant-clockwise to release bulb. 3) Remove old bulb by pushing into lampholder and twisting anti-clockwise. Replace with Bulb type 50W Max GU10 Mains Voltage Halogen only. 4) Push the bulb into the unit and secure by refitting the decorative bezel, or the wire retaining clip.
