FITTING AND WIRING INSTRUCTIONS:
Important Things to Consider Before you Begin
1). Before commencing work, ALWAYS isolate the
mains power supply and remove the fuse in the fuse
box or switch off the circuit breaker in the consumer
unit.
2). If unit is to be used as a replacement for an existing
product, remove existing unit from its location and
disconnect the wiring. Ensure that the wall (back) box
has a minimum depth of 25mm.
3). Certain items in the range will not fit into a 4-lug
box. If such a box has been previously installed the
North-South lugs should be removed or bent back to
avoid contact with the new product.
4). Connect the wires as shown in appropriate wiring
diagrams. Use green/yellow sleeving on any earth
conductors not insulated. Ensure terminals are
properly tightened and no bare wire is visible. When
mounting products into mounting boxes make sure
conductors are not trapped.
5). When screwing the unit to the mounting box, do
not over tighten fixing screws. Fixing screws are
supplied with this product.
6). To reduce the risk of discolouration or tarnishing,
avoid installation on wet plaster.
7). Products must be installed in accordance with the
latest Building and IEE wiring regulations. If in any
doubt, please contact a qualified electrician.
Compatibility
The 4 gang LightwaveRF Connect Dimmer is
compatible with:
• Standard mains voltage incandescent & low energy
incandescent lighting (min40W, max 250W)
• Dimmable Electronic Low Voltage Transformers
• GU10 and equivalent HI spot mains halogen bulbs
• Dimmable (only) LED bulbs - NOTE: min 15w total
load on circuit required for reliable LED operation!
For guidance on compatible bulbs please visit
www.lightwaverf.com.
The 4 gang LightwaveRF Connect Dimmer is NOT
compatible with:
• Wirewound transformers (generally older style)
• Electric Motors
Installation Guide
1. Turn off mains electrical supply.
2. Ensure that the wall (back) box has a minimum
depth of 25mm.
3. Remove the existing light switch and disconnect
the wiring.
4. Gently remove plate by inserting a flat screwdriver
into the slots/s of the plate and lift away from the
unit.
5. Strip the cable as shown then connect the wiring
as per the diagrams below, ensure terminals are
properly tightened and no bare wire is visible.
NOTE: In order to have RF function, mains electricity
must be connected to the Master (first) dimmer
module.
Max: 8mm
Min: 13mm
Additional slave units (maximum of 6 in line) will
allow for 2-way / multi-way operation (units can only
be operated manually).
6. Screw the dimmer switch to the mounting box and
ensure that the screws are sufficiently tight to support
the product, but please do not over tighten as this
may cause some damage. Ensure that the plastic
spacer is correctly aligned and that no wires are
trapped between the dimmer switch and the back of
the wall box.
2 Gangs with 1-Way
2 Gangs with 2-Way
7. Replace the plate – a ‘click’ sound should be heard
to signify that the plate has been correctly replaced.
SETUP:
Pairing with handheld remote transmitters
The dimmers can pair with up to 6 different remote
transmitters at any one time as each has a maximum
of 6 memories.
Pairing using LEARNING MODE (each dimmer
module treated separately):
1. On the dimmer switches press and hold down both
the ‘ON’ AND ‘OFF’ buttons until the blue and amber
LEDs flash alternately. The dimmer switch is now in
learning mode.
2. Using a LightwaveRF Connect Remote press the
‘ON’ button intended to be paired; the blue light on
the dimmer switch will flash to confirm that the
remote is now paired.
NOTE: Learning Mode lasts for 6 seconds; if no signal
is received from a remote handset during this time
then the dimmer will automatically exit learning
mode without pairing the device.
If, when expecting a blue LED flash to confirm
pairing, an amber LED flash is received instead, the
dimmer switch memory is FULL and no further
remotes may be paired with it unless one of the
existing remotes is first unpaired (see below).
Unpairing Remotes and clearing the Dimmer
memory
Removing single Device:
1. On the relevant dimmer switch press and hold
down both the ‘ON’ and ‘OFF’ buttons until the blue
and amber LEDs flash alternately. The dimmer switch
is now in learning mode.
2. Using a LightwaveRF Connect Remote press the
‘OFF’ button intended to be un-paired; the amber
light on the dimmer switch will flash to confirm that
the remote is now unpaired.
Clearing Memory (will remove all paired remotes):
1. On the relevant dimmer switch press and hold
down both the ‘ON’ and ‘OFF’ buttons until the blue
and amber LEDs flash alternately. The dimmer switch
is now in learning mode.
2. On the dimmer switch press and hold down the
‘OFF’ button again until the blue and amber LEDs
flash simultaneously, then press (don’t hold) the ‘OFF’
button a further time; the amber LED will flash to
confirm that the memory has been cleared.
