Nursing Scholarship Program
Funding Amount/Program Specifics
In exchange for the scholarship, which pays tuition and about $2,000 for other reasonable costs and a $1,326 monthly stipend, upon
graduation, the nurses work at the same types of facilities (as in the Nursing Education Loan Repayment Program) for at least 2 years.

AMA Physicians of Tomorrow Scholarships
10,000 scholarships reward current third-year medical students/individuals who are approaching their final year of medical school. At
least two different scholarships, funded by various organizations, will be awarded in 2011. The number of recipients is determined after
all applications have been received. Typically, 8-12 recipients in total are selected. Each medical school can nominate one person for
each of the different scholarship opportunities (2 nominees in total). Each scholarship category takes into consideration academic
excellence and financial need. In New York, the selection is based on academic excellence and financial need.

American Medical Women's Association (AMWA)
Provides two $1,000 scholarships to women currently enrolled in medical school. Awardees will be chosen based on need as well as
embodiment of the goals of AMWA.

Blackwell Scholarship Program-Special Admissions Program Hobart and
William Smith Collges

Provides $ to assure four, tuition-free years of college education at Hobart and William Smith Colleges, opportunities to work with
physicians at Finger Lakes Health, a guaranteed seat in medical school at SUNY Upstate Medical University following graduation from
Hobart and William Smith, and a waiver of the requirement to take the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT). Funded and
administered by Hobart and William Smith Colleges.
Dr. Martin R. Liebowitz Scholarship for Primary Care and Internal Medicine
Provides $ to fourth year medical students pursuing careers in Primary Care/Internal Medicine at SUNY Stony Brook Medical. The
award based on merit and financial need. Preference is given to economically disadvantaged students.

Herbert W. Nickens Medical Student Scholarship (AAMC)
The Northern New York Medical Foundation will provide funds for third and fourth year medical students from Essex, Clinton, Franklin
and St. Lawrence counties, who will make a commitment to return to those counties. Priority will be given to those going into primary
care. Awards will range from $10,000 to full tuition, depending on the number of qualified students and the vitality of the Foundation.
Five $5,000 scholarships will be awarded to students entering their third year of medical school who have shown leadership in efforts to
eliminate inequities in medical education and health care and demonstrated leadership efforts in addressing educational, societal, and
health care needs of minorities in the United States. Student must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident and nominated by the medical
school.

Jonas Nurse Leaders Scholar Program
Jonas Nursing Scholars each receive four years of funding for tuition and a living stipend up to $70,000 per year through a forgivable
loan. Jonas Nursing Scholars agree to complete a doctoral degree in four years; limit salaried employment during the course of study;
begin teaching nursing full-time in the New York City metropolitan area within four months of degree completion; and remain teaching
in the area for a minimum of four years. Grantee institutions identify Jonas Scholars from competitive pools of qualified applicants,
while considering the applicants’ interest in areas in high demand for nurse educators, including oncology, geriatrics, mental health,
public health and integrative and holistic care.

John Hopkins School of Nursing Merit Scholarship for Bachelor's Students
The Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing offers a limited number of Academic Merit Scholarships covering half-tuition costs to
qualified accepted students. The awards are made to those accepted applicants who, in the judgment of the faculty of the School of
Nursing, have demonstrated academic excellence, leadership capabilities, and extracurricular involvement. The scholarship is renewable
for each of the four semesters provided the recipient remain in good academic standing at the School of Nursing and depending on

Pisacano Scholars Leadership Program
Provides educational services, leadership training, and funding to reimburse a portion of medical school related debt. Scholarships
awarded to outstanding medical students for a four-year period. Students who have made a commitment to the field of family medicine
and who will enter their fourth year of medical school in the Fall may apply.

The Edna A. Lauterbach Scholarship Fund
The Dressler Scholarship provides financial assistance for M.S.W. and clinical psychology students interested in clinical work within a
Jewish nonprofit organization. This is a partial scholarship ranging from $2,000 to $4,000 per year for a maximum of two years.
Provides scholarship toward nursing (RN or LPN) expenses including tuition, specialty training, books and other related expenses.

Dr. U.R. Plante Scholarship Fund
An annual $10,000 scholarship awarded to a student attending medical school who is a resident of either the Adirondack Park, St.
Lawrence, Franklin, Clinton, Essex or Hamilton County of New York State or has lived in one of these counties for at least two years. The
successful candidate must be willing to return to one of the above locations or to a remote part of the US or where doctors are needed
to practice medicine. (Interested applicants must be accepted to or currently in an MD program only)

ARC Foundation of Clinton County
Being true to the mission statement, the ARC Foundation has created a scholarship program that is offered to any student who is
enrolled full time in a college program in the fields of human services and/or clinical studies. The Foundation also offers several
scholarships for high school students each year. The amount of the scholarships is determined each year by the Foundation’s board of
directors. It is the hope of the Foundation board to encourage students to become involved in services that will directly benefit the
MR/DD population

Senator Patricia K. McGee Nursing Faculty Scholarship Program
Senator Patricia K. McGee Nursing Faculty Scholarships are being offered to increase the number of educators and adjunct clinical faculty teaching
nursing education in New York State. Awards are made on a competitive basis to applicants who are registered professional nurses enrolling in
graduate programs that will qualify them as nursing faculty or adjunct clinical faculty.
