Normalisation
Standards are prepared by technical committees (TC)
TC's are composed with interested stakeholders who want to influence the standards
TC's at the European level are composed of representatives
of the national committees (called mirror committees)
Examples:
. CLC/TC 77 & 210 for EMC matters
. CISPR A, B, C… for electromagnetic disturbances limitation
. CLC/TC 106 for limitation of people exposure to EM fields
. CLC/TC 79 for intrusion alarm systems

Harmonized standards
Harmonized standards
Standards can be harmonized regarding one particular directive
Harmonized standards are:
. European standards
. Recognized by all the member states as giving presumption of
conformity to the essential requirements of the considered directive

Standards hierarchy
Basic standard
Describes how to perform a particular set of tests
Immunity to electrostatic discharges: EN 61000-4-2
Limit
Defines limits of emission processes
Limits of harmonics emissions: EN 61000-3-2
Generic standard
Provides the level at which the tests have to be performed
for products not covered by a product family standards
Immunity requirements for
- residential environment: EN 61000-6-1
- industrial environment: EN 61000-6-2
Product family standards
Provides the level at which the tests have to be performed
for a particular product family
Immunity requirements electrodomestic apparatus: EN 55014-2
EMC requirements for alarm components: EN 50130-4
EMC standards
Most performed basic standards
EN 61000-4-2

EN 61000-4-3
RF radiated field immunity test
EN 61000-4-4
Electrical fast transients immunity test
EN 61000-4-5
High energy voltage surge immunity test
EN 61000-4-6
RF conducted field immunity test
EN 61000-4-8
