PURPOSE 1.1 The purpose of the present Standard Specification is to make specific selections and to provide additional requirements in the frame of the national, international or manufacturer's standards on which the motor design is based. Therefore, the requirements of this Standard Specification are not exhaustive, being only connected to some topics of special interest. 1.2 The requirements are addressed to the motor manufacturers and to the suppliers of equipment (systems) that includes electric motors. Some of them are also of interest for the power station designers. 1.3 Specific requirements connected to the interface with the ambient medium (corrosion resistant material, surfaces protection, noise, coolant temperature) are not considered here. Some of them are subject to other guideline documents of the Israel Electric Corporation Ltd. 2. SCOPE 2.1 The requirements of this Standard Specification apply to three-phase squirrel-cage type, induction motors for general use, with a rated voltage higher than 1000V. 2.2 Excluded from the scope of this Standard Specification are: a. Motors for use in hazardous locations, where additional specific features are required. b. An other technology based on IEC 60034-15 may be proposed by the motor manufacturers for approval by the Israel Electric Corporation Ltd. For the motors that are not likely to see high-magnitude fast-fronted surges (e.g. a measure of protection from such surges is provided by installation of devices such as wave-sloping capacitor at motor terminals or surge arrestors), Project Specification may agree with the impulse withstand the envelope given on Fig.2 of IEEE Standard 522-2004. 5.9 Special requirements on high efficiency may be included in the Project Specification for large motors, which will be operated many hours per year. In this case, the costs of the no-load losses and of the load losses will be indicated in the Project Specification. For Bid comparison, the cost of the losses will be added to the initial costs of the motor. 6 CONSTRUCTIONAL CHARACTERISTICS 6.1 Enclosure and bearings 6.1.1 The motor enclosure shall be designed according to IP55 degree of protection (Totally Enclosed Water-Proof motor). Painting and corrosion-resistant materials, suitable for the ambient conditions indicated in the paragraph 4 of this Standard Specification or in the Project Specification, shall be used for the enclosure. A special attention shall be paid for the outdoor motors. 6.1.2 The following solution is required to be used for the motor cooling: a. The primary coolant shall be air, self-circulated in a closed cooling circuit (Totally Enclosed motor). b. The heat will be transferred to the secondary (final) coolant by one of the following ways: - Through the frame surface of the motor to the external air, by using or not an external mounted fan/s (TEFC and TENV motors). - Through a motor mounted heat-exchanger to the external air (TEAAC motor); - Through a motor mounted heat-exchanger using water from the closed cooling system of the Power Station as a secondary coolant (TEWAC motor). This last solution may be proposed by the Contractor just in case the using of the external air as a secondary coolant leads to an unacceptable technical solution or to an expensive one. Locked rotor current: + 20% e. Locked rotor torque: from -15% to +25% When tolerance is stated in one direction only, the value is not limited in the other direction. Non-stated tolerances may be agreed in the Contract. The locked rotor current tolerances do not apply to the requirement of paragraph 5.5 of this Standard Specification 8 SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS FOR MOTOR SELECTION 8.1 The service factor of the motors meeting the provisions of the American Standards ANSI, IEEE and NEMA shall be equal to 1.0 (one). 8.2 The motors shall be selected in order to be capable of starting, accelerating and bringing the rated load of the driven equipment to the rated speed, at rated frequency, provided the voltage at the motor terminals is not less than 80% of the motor rated voltage. The limit of 85% (instead of 80%) may be specified in the Project Specification or may be accepted by the Israel Electric Corporation Ltd., if the voltage drop in the supply path during the motor start can be correspondingly limited. 8.3 The motors with continuous running duty shall be selected in order to withstand either of the following start sequences: a. Three successive starts with the motor initially at the ambient temperature. b. Two successive starts with the motor initially at the full load operating temperature. The motors will revert to rest between starts, without intentional cooling interval. The starts are supposed to be with the full load torque and inertia moment of the driven equipment, at rated frequency and with the minimum start voltage at the motor terminals indicated above. 8.4 The margin between the start current-time curve and the thermal limit curve of the motor shall be sufficient to allow adequate over-current protection in the whole range from zero to rated speed. 8.5 The Contractor shall provide a computer simulation in order to check the starting capability of motors driving high inertia loads.
