for Education. For the salaried route, the
university can support all subjects offered by
the training school.
Both School Direct programmes will lead to
Qualified Teacher Status and, for the tuition
fee route, a PGCE on successful completion.
The programme will enable you to develop:
••The knowledge, skills and understanding
required to teach secondary school pupils
••The professional values and practice
Why study this programme?
School Direct is a teacher training scheme
that enables candidates to apply for training
within a school or group of schools.
Each programme is delivered in partnership
with an accredited teacher training
institution, such as the University of
Greenwich, and comprises of on-the-job
training and university-based courses.
Many of our successful School Direct
graduates find employment within their
training school or in another school that is
part of the scheme.
School Direct offers two types of training
places:
School Direct places are open to all
graduates and are funded by tuition fees
paid by the trainee. Tuition fee loans
and bursaries may be available from the
Department for Education. The university
supports a wide range of subjects on this
route, including mathematics, physics,
chemistry, biology, music, computing,
design and technology, physical education
and French.
School Direct (Salaried) places are open
to graduates with prior career experience
(not necessarily in education). Trainees
are employed as unqualified teachers with
a salary subsidised by the Department
required to meet the broad demands of
teaching.

motivate their learners and to develop their
own professional identity.
••Subject Knowledge and Pedagogy 2

provide, which supports our students in
achieving their potential. Some students
apply from unconventional backgrounds or
have chosen to change career. We embrace
the diversity and experience that these
students can bring to our courses.

Partnership working is at the core of our
ethos and values. This is because we
recognise teaching and learning as a
collaborative social process. Therefore, we
are committed to pursuing collaborative
teaching and learning partnerships in and
between educational settings.
