DIY Quilt Angel Along with your Manual quilt, you will need the following items. 1. Standard green funeral spray stand - tall enough to display the angel. 2. Stiff gauge wire (preferred) or long clear zip lock pulls. 3. Styrofoam ball for head. 1. Lay your stand flat on a table, front side up. I find a stiffer gauge wire works better on these angels or long clear zip lock pulls. A standard green funeral spray stand sold in florist shops is my preference. Wooden stands work well also but add a lot to your final cost factor. Make sure your stand is tall enough to display your Angel. 2. Place a Styrofoam ball, (or roll bubble wrap or stiff paper in a ball) at the top of your stand. Affix with wire so it is stationary. 3. Place your throw on top of the stand, lengthwise up and down. Fold the top of the throw over your ball covering front and back of ball to create your head. 4. Attach with wire tightly to the stand. Almost like a noose pulled very snugly. This can be attached to the top of the stand for stability. 5. Pull the wings out to the sides of your stand. The wings need to tip slightly up. If your throw is reversible or has a border decide which side looks better, this is your chance to provide contrast and color on your Angel with your throw. Create a waist with your hands by pulling the throw in tightly at the center. Wire the waist of your angel to the stand making sure that each wing is in place at the sides of your stand. You may need to use a corsage pin to affix your wings correctly. 6. When forming your throw make sure you adjust any creases or fold as you wire it on the stand. Do not be concerned about wires, etc. You can cover your basic mechanics with flowers or a bow after your finish. You can also spread out your Angels skirt at this time and pin it to the bottom of your stand sides. 7. Make sure your Angel is secure and that your stand will fold for delivery. At this time you can add a bow and flowers if you’d like . The flowers can be arranged in a cage, on Styrofoam or hand tied in a loose bouquet. Remember that anything heavy does need to be firmly wired to the stand not the fabric of the throw.
