Vario KMT
Three phase, computer aided measuring system
for testing and fault location of power distribution
cables in low and medium voltage networks.
The Vario KMT System is a modern and mainly automatic testing
tool for fault location in power cables including standard cable
testing.
System operation is menu-guided by the central Control Unit. It
is user friendly even for infrequent users during on-call duty and
supports operator skills. All test results, operation references
and messages are displayed on the large TFT colour-display
(10.4’’).
Fault prelocation method ARM Plus®
Effective cable testing, maintaining the cable integrity of PE,
XLPE and paper insulated cables with the patented 0.1 Hz
Cosine Square Voltage, can be optionally integrated.
The integrated automatic insulation and resistance measurement permits a quick decision making on the practical
prelocation method without activating further devices.
All fault location functions are operated via the central Control
Unit. The following prelocation methods are available
J
3-phase TDR measurement
J
arc reflection method ARM Plus®‚
J
surge pulse method
J
arc reflection method Decay Plus®‚ (up to 80 kV)
All results are displayed on the screen of the Control Unit. The
patented ARM Plus®‚ method permits a considerably improved
and simplified prelocation of high resistance and intermitting
faults.
The integrated high-performance surge generator (up to 1280 J
standard) enables a pre- and pinpoint location in low and
medium voltage networks.
The modular concept and numerous options, that can also be
retrofitted, offer the possibility of satisfying every customer
need.

Intelligent control and monitoring of the system through
modern field bus technology (LON) guarantees highest safety
and reliability
The system is coupled to the connection system by an SF6 gasinsulated, combined function and phase switch
Compact high voltage source in 100 kHz – converter
technology, hence less weight and dimensions
Optimized prelocation method for long-distance ranges for
longer cable runs by a patented ARM Plus® and Decay Plus®
method<
Low power consumption permits a power supply from mains
(10 A) or from a genset. Optionally, even battery operation is
possible
To extend the possibilities of the TDR, options can be connected
such as a mains surge switch, the test unit for overhead power
lines, or a mains filter
Optional doubling of the surge energy to 2560 J
