Introduction to the LLN for Education Support online courses.
Language, Literacy and Numeracy Task (LLN)
Before you begin your course you are required to complete a TAFE Queensland Literacy and
Numeracy Task. These tasks are designed to give the Learning Support Teachers and your Facilitators
an indication of your reading and numeracy skills. Before you start, here is some information on the
“LLN”.

There are 2 tasks – one reading and one numeracy.
•
The tasks are not tests and there is no pass or fail. Your results are confidential and do not
show on your Academic Transcript.
•
Both the reading and numeracy are multiple choice answers.
•
The Reading task has several short passages and a set of questions for each. You have 25
minutes and there are 42 questions in total. However, you do not have to finish all the
questions – just work as quickly and accurately as you can. The passages appear on each
screen, so you don’t have to learn them off by heart – you will be able to read each passage for
every question.

For the Numeracy task you have 20 minutes and there are 25 questions. Please do not use a
calculator. We need to be able to see your understanding of basic maths. Please use a piece of
paper and a pen to do your calculations.

Please do not attempt to do each task more than once. Only your lowest score will be used.
•
Make sure you have 1 hour away from interruptions to complete the LLN, so that you don’t
have to answer the phone etc.
Instructions for completing the TAFE Queensland Gold Coast Literacy task:
TO OPEN THE TASK, CLICK ON THE FOLLOWING HYPERLINK: General Education - Literacy
1. Enter the password: GC IT (all capitals).
2. Click on Continue.
3. Enter your personal details (first name, last name and email address).
4. Enter your course name: Education Support Certificate III
5. Click on the Start Test button and read the short instructions.
6. Click on Continue. The task will start timing. You can see the clock at the top of the passage.
7. Read the text and the question choices and make your selection – then click the Next
button. You may have to scroll down to see the questions and the Next button.
8. At 25 minutes, the programme will stop. You can read your score. If you finish before 25
minutes, click Finish Test. You will be able to read your score.
This is important – you must click Finish Test to get your results if you finish before 25 minutes.
9. CLOSE the window – use the CLOSE CROSS at the top right hand corner of the screen.
If you don’t close the window properly, you will not be able to do the next task.
You are now ready to do the Numeracy task: (The process is the same as before).
