WSQ ADVANCED CERTIFICATE IN INDUSTRIAL DESIGN (FURNITURE)
Introduction
This course covers demonstrating the
knowledge of production. The skills
include demonstrating knowledge of
production terminology, production
processes, cost and materials. It facilitates
technical communication and the ability
to work as a team member.
Course Objectives/Outline
1. Demonstrate knowledge of relevant
production terminology and
vocabulary.
2. Demonstrate knowledge of relevant
production processes.
3. Demonstrate basic knowledge on the
costs of production.
4. Demonstrate knowledge of various
materials used in production.
Assessment Activities
The assessment will be a report that
outlines the relevant production process
and outcome using the appropriate
production terminology and vocabulary
for a design project. The assignment is to
be submitted two weeks after completing
the class. A 30-minute interview session
will be arranged. It will comprise of a 15minute presentation by the participant
followed by oral questions and feedback
from the assessor.

Introduction
This course aims to equip the participant
with the skills and knowledge for
identifying the presentation objectives
and formats; gathering and analysing the
necessary information; developing
presentation and presentation collaterals;
presenting information in appropriate
formats, as well as evaluating
presentations.
Course Objectives/Outline
1. Identify presentation objectives and
presentation formats in accordance
to organizational procedures
2. Gather and analyse the necessary
information to support presentation
objectives
3. Develop presentations and
presentation collaterals, if necessary,
to support presentation structure
4. Present information in appropriate
presentation formats to achieve
presentation objectives
5. Evaluate presentations to determine
areas for improvement
Assessment Activities
The participant is required to submit an

the skills and knowledge to maintain an
awareness of what is going on within an
environment where design processes and
activities take place. The skills include
developing an inquiring attitude, the
ability to research and make suggestions
from research to improve and make the
design environment more efficient and
effective.

materials and design technologies
based on the needs of the project

to relate trends to new developments
4. Use researched information to
explore, develop and communicate
design ideas based on the needs of
the project

WSQ IMPLEMENT DESIGN THINKING
Introduction
This course covers the principles of design
thinking to achieve innovation. The skills
include using design thinking principles
and applying appropriate techniques of
each stage of the design thinking
process, to develop innovation that
meets user needs, wants and desires. A
design thinking toolkit, CueditTM, will be
used to trigger, stimulate and catalyze
the iterative design thinking process.
Course Objectives/Outline
1. Carry out the Understand stage of the
design thinking process to gather
insights
2. Carry out the Explore stage of the
design thinking process to propagate
potential solutions
3. Carry out the Test stage of the design
thinking process to refine and improve
on potential solutions
Assessment Activities
Throughout the course the participant will
be going through each stage of the
design thinking process to demonstrate
the appropriate use of the design thinking
methods and techniques during the
development process, and the adoption
of the core attitudes of design thinking
during the development process, to
prepare and submit towards the end of
the course an innovation derived from a
problem statement gained from insights
which has empowering and inspirational
elements that fulfils user needs, wants
and desires, in the form of a written
assignment.

Introduction
This course covers the designing of new
products or sub-assemblies. The skills
include establishing design requirements;
identifying constraints; and, producing
and modifying design ideas with
consideration to production methods,
materials, processes and feasibility.
Course Objectives/Outline
• Identifying the design issues and
problems.
• Establishing the design brief for
specification of the design
requirements based on the client’s
needs.
• Developing the design in consideration
of the factors that may influence the
design solution(s).
• Identifying any constraints.
• Producing design concept sketches in
the appropriate media.
• Investigating and evaluating the
design production processes, methods,
testing requirements and material
requirements.
• Preparing production information.
• Evaluating the quality of the design
solution in meeting the requirements.
• Making changes to design in response
to test and evaluation outcomes of the
design prototype.
• Preparing a full documentation of
project information and ensuring
compliance.

Introduction
This course covers the key elements of
professional practices to be applied in
design projects. The skills include applying
appropriate codes of professional
conduct; preparing a design brief and
contract proposal; and interpreting
intellectual property rights principles and
their applications within a design context.
Course Objectives/Outline
1. Demonstrate professional conduct
within the design industry in
accordance with the codes of
professional conduct established by
the industry’s design association
2. Prepare a design brief to articulate
the objectives and specifications of
the design project
3. Prepare a contract proposal in
accordance with the organisational
contract, fees and services guidelines
4. Interpret Intellectual Property Rights
(IPR) principles and their applications
within a design context
