As we come to the end of our mid-year assessment and reporting with the Prep reports and 3Ways
concluding, I would like to thank everyone for your support. The staff put an enormous amount of time and
energy into Student Reports and the companion Student Learning Journals and the combination of the two,
along with the very informative three way conferences, give a very in-depth picture of how your child is
progressing in their learning at school. Well done to the students who compiled their Learning Journals with
great pride and then spoke very well about their learning and their goals at the three way conference.
Thank you to our very supportive parents who encourage their children to do their best at school, support
them at their interviews and take a great interest in their child’s Learning Journal and how they are
progressing at school.
The annual Education Department Parent Opinion Survey has been sent home to randomly selected
families, so please take the time to fill it in and return it to the school office, thank you.
SCHOOL COUNCIL
School Council met last night and covered the following issues:
 The Strategic Plan 2016 – 2019 and The 2016 Annual Implementation Plan have been endorsed
by our Regional Manager.
 Scienceworks was a great day of learning, thank you to Miss K and everyone involved.
 Thank you and well done to everyone who supported the Parents Group election day BBQ, Cake
Stall and Raffle.
 School Council appreciates and thanks all staff and parents who attend our School Camps.
 Education Committee reported on the many exciting learning programs happening at the moment.
 Well done to OSHClub for their high quality National Quality Standard Assessment and the way
they are meeting the needs of the children.
THANKYOU SALLY
After over ten years on School Council, Sally Western has officially retired from Council. I would like to thank
Sally very much and pass on, on behalf of the staff, students and parents, our sincere thanks for her time,
energy and guidance during her time on School Council. A big thankyou from us all Sally.
PAINTING
For several years we have been waiting for Education Department funding of a useful or substantial size to
arrive at RPS to help maintain and improve the many buildings and great grounds we have. Unfortunately
none has arrived and with pressure on the State government for new schools in growth areas, it doesn’t look
like any will be arriving soon. To help spruce up the front of the school, School Council has decided to use
the Building Fund contributions this year to paint a couple of key areas. The money won’t stretch very far, but
it will be a start. We hope, weather permitting, the painting can occur in the September school holidays.
Thank you to all the families who have contributed to the building fund.
School Council is very reluctant to use community money on improving the fabric of the buildings, but
unfortunately this is the reality of government schools. We receive about $18,000 each year to maintain the
buildings, carry out any minor works (broken windows, replacement locks, upgrading failed air cons etc) and
to fund any tradies we use, as well handymen, our helpers etc. We receive $6800 to maintain the grounds
which covers mowing, garden requirements, car park repairs, tree maintenance etc. Any extra costs or
unexpected ‘over-spends’ need to be covered by local fundraising funds or by diverting funds allocated for
‘core student learning.’ When we are audited for maintenance needs we usually don’t qualify for extra funds
because we do too good a job of keeping on top of urgent maintenance and building repairs, but we are now
fast playing ‘catch up’ on a school site that is 127 years old and with our oldest building a 1948 “Bristol”
demountable brought in from the UK just after WWII.
BEST WISHES NICOLE
We wish all the very best and a speedy recovery to our Phys Ed and Grade 6 support teacher Nicole Martin
on a quick recovery from her surgery tomorrow. Nicole was struck by a car and thrown into the air as she
walked across a pedestrian crossing last Sunday week on her way to her gym. Nicole suffered many cuts
and bruises but also sustained severe shoulder damage as a result. Best wishes Nicole.
DEB ARMSTRONG
Some of you may have bumped into Deb Armstrong, an ex-teacher from RPS, who is currently here every
couple of weeks working with staff. Since leaving RPS, Deb has trained as a teacher coach and mentor, and
after meeting up with her recently, it has been great to tap into Deb’s expertise and knowledge of new
teaching ideas and the new F-10 Victorian curriculum. Please say hi to Deb if you remember her and make
her welcome at RPS.
PREPS 100 DAYS
Our Preps are fast approaching 100 days at school and will be celebrating with a special day next week.
Happy 100 days, Preps.

WHEN I GROW UP - WHOLE SCHOOL PRODUCTION
Our Whole School Production this year is called ‘When I Grow Up’. As last year the production will have
two performances on Monday 5th September, a matinee at 12noon and an evening performance at
7pm. Both will be held at Planetshakers (360 Centre), 360 Main Rd, Lower Plenty. There will be priority
booking for Grade 6 families and a letter will be sent home shortly. This year you may book up to 4 tickets
per session and if there are spare seats, they will be released after bookings close. If you require more than
four tickets for the matinee please contact the school office.
SCIENCEWORKS EXCURSION
The students had a wonderful time at Scienceworks last Wednesday where they took part in an
informative Educational classroom session finding out all about blasting off into space, rocket propulsion,
electrical energy and the Earth, Moon and Sun. The students also visited the Planetarium where they
spent time exploring the night sky, identifying constellations, discovering interesting facts about the Solar
System and finding out about how the Earths tilt affects our seasons. Thank you to the many parent
helpers who assisted in making our whole school excursion such an enjoyable day.

OSHClub BEFORE AND AFTER SCHOOL CARE AT RPS
Last week children participated in many activities throughout the week. There were many art activities done
by the children, based on our weekly theme of exploring winter art and craft. We did manage to go outside
most days, although there were some very frosty times where we were permitted to stay indoors! The
favourite activities for the week were basketball and dancing. Children actively engaged in outdoor play, this
is one of their favourite things to do at the program. Children organise their own dance competitions and
music play throughout the week, this is a great part of their day. They love listen to music and display their
creative dance moves. We would like to kindly ask if any families have any resource they would like to
donate. We would be very grateful at the program for any preloved items. Looking forward to seeing you at
the program throughout the week 
We would like to remind parents to book online if possible. This helps the team with food and activity
preparations. We are looking forward to seeing everyone at the program this week. If you have any
inquiries please come down and see us.
