WATERPROOFING AND CRACK ISOLATION MEMBRANE
This product guide can be used to specify Hydroment UltraSet Advanced, a waterproofing
and crack isolation membrane. This guide can be inserted into SECTION 09300 - TILE.
The various paragraphs will need to be inserted in the appropriate locations in either Part
1, 2, or 3 of that section. This guide can also be combined with other guides to develop
SECTION 09305 - TILE SETTING MATERIALS AND ACCESSORIES. *****
PART 1 - GENERAL

SUMMARY
A. Section includes: Trowel applied waterproofing and crack isolation membrane
which is seamless, chemically resistant, and elastomeric when cured.

PART 3 - EXECUTION
3.1
UNDERLAYMENT INSTALLATION
***** Hydroment Ultra-Set Advanced should not be applied in areas subject to
hydrostatic pressure, over cushioned backed sheet vinyl flooring, beneath resilient flooring,
and bridging expansion joints. Refer to Bostik product literature for other limitations and
suitable substrates. *****
A. Prepare substrate and apply waterproofing and crack isolation membrane in
accordance with manufacturer's instructions and ANSI A108.13.
B. Preparation: Ensure substrates are structurally sound, clean, and free of dust, dirt,
oil, grease, curing compounds, and other contaminants which inhibit bond.

Concrete: Verify surface has light broom or similar texture.
2.
Plywood: Installed in accordance with tile industry standards.
C. Application:
***** Hydroment Ultra-Set Advanced can be used to waterproof showers, toilet rooms,
laundry rooms, kitchens, fountains, and substrates of other wet areas. Ultra-Set Advanced
also prevents cracks from damaging thin-set tile and stone installations and isolate
movement caused by radiant heating systems. It is also suitable for surfacing gypsum
underlayments scheduled to receive tile. *****

Apply when temperature of surfaces to receive waterproofing and crack
isolation membrane is 50 degrees F minimum.
2.
Apply waterproofing and crack isolation membrane to [[shower] [toilet room]
[kitchen] [laundry room] [fountain] [_____] substrates to provide waterproofing]
[concrete substrates to bridge and isolate cracks] [gypsum underlayments
scheduled to receive tile] [concrete slabs with radiant heating systems to isolate
movement] [existing ceramic tile] [substrates indicated on Drawings].

Spread waterproofing and crack isolation underlayment compound with V
notched trowel. Immediately smooth with flat surface of trowel.

Minimum thickness: 30 mils.
b.
Maximum thickness: 60 mils.

Coves, corners, drains, and pipe penetrations: Embed [2 inches] [51 mm] wide
fiberglass mesh tape in fresh underlayment. Apply [6 inches] [152 mm]
minimum wide layer of underlayment to both sides of coves, corners, and
penetrations.
5.
Fill pinholes, voids, and air bubbles with second layer of waterproofing and
crack isolation material.
6.
Allow to cure 6 to 12 hours.
***** Hydroment Ultra-Set Advanced cannot be used to isolate expansion and other joints
which experience dynamic movement. Such joints must be carried through entire tile
system. Hydroment Ultra-Set Advanced can bridge cracks less than 1/8 inch (3 mm)
without fiberglass mesh reinforcement. *****
7.
Cracks greater than [1/8 inch] [3 mm] width:
a.
Install backer rod or bond breaker tape in opening.
b.
Fill crack with waterproofing and crack isolation material or urethane
sealant.
c.
Apply layer of underlayment [12 inches] [305 mm] wide or width of tile
whichever is greater on both side of crack.
d.
Embed [2 inches] [51 mm] wide fiberglass mesh tape in fresh
underlayment.
