2.04 ACCESSORIES
A. General:
1. Ensure accessories intended for use in reinforced vapor barrier installation
conform to vapor barrier manufacturer’s recommendations.
B. Seam Tape: High-density polyethylene tape with pressure sensitive adhesive,
per manufacturer's recommendation; minimum width 4 inches.
C. Pipe Boots: Factory-fabricated pipe boots, or construct pipe boots from vapor

PART 3 EXECUTION
3.01 EXAMINATION
A. Examine surfaces and areas to receive vapor barriers. Notify Architect in writing
defects of work and other unsatisfactory site conditions that would cause
defective installation of vapor barriers. Do not begin installation until
unacceptable conditions have been corrected.
B. Verify site dimensions.
C. Ensure surface beneath vapor barrier is smooth with no sharp projections.
D. Commencement of work will imply acceptance of substrate.
3.02 INSTALLATION
A. General:
1. Install products in accordance with manufacturer's instructions and ASTM E
1643, as follows:
a. Install vapor barrier at all building floor areas to receive concrete slabon-grade.
b. Install vapor retarder under all concrete sidewalks and stair steps
located within 10 feet of building.
2. Install vapor barrier/vapor retarder continuously; ensure there are no
discontinuities in vapor barrier/vapor retarder at seams or penetrations.
3. Install vapor barrier/vapor retarder in largest practical widths.
4. Use manufacturer recommended tape to join sections of and seal
penetrations in vapor barrier/vapor retarder. Ensure vapor barrier/vapor
retarder surfaces to receive tape are clean and dry.
5. Immediately repair holes in vapor barrier/vapor retarder with self-adhesive
repair tape.
6. Seal around pipes and other penetrations in vapor barrier with pipe boots in
accordance with manufacturer's instructions.
B. Install vapor barrier/vapor retarder over entire area to receive concrete work, lap
edges 12 inches minimum and continuously seal with tape.
1. Install vapor barrier/vapor retarder with seams perpendicular to and lapped
in direction of concrete pour.
2. Turn edges up to 4 inches to top of slab.
3. Where expansion joints are indicated at adjacent vertical surfaces, extend
vapor barrier/vapor retarder beyond expansion joint filler and turn up to top
of slab.

4.
Do not allow screed supports or other items to penetrate vapor
barrier/vapor retarder.
C. Continuously tape entire perimeter of reinforced vapor barrier to adjacent
surfaces; around all pipe penetrations; and vapor barrier membrane joints; to
seal and prevent vapor moisture penetration.
3.03 PROTECTION
A. Protect vapor barrier/vapor retarder from damage until permanent covering is in
place.
1. Repair punctures and tears in vapor barrier/vapor retarder using patches of
the material overlapping the puncture or tear a minimum of 12 inches. Seal
with tape.
B. Protect reinforced vapor barrier/vapor retarder from damage during installation
of reinforcing steel and utilities and during placement of granular materials or
concrete slab.
