DESCRIPTION OF ACADEMIC DRESS 1.1 Degrees 1.1.1 The gown for all Bachelors’, Honours Bachelors’ and Masters’ degrees of the University is black and of the same pattern as that of a Master of Arts of the University of Oxford or Cambridge. 1.1.2 The gown for all doctoral degrees is cardinal red with open sleeves lined in cardinal red. 1.1.3 The academic cap for all doctoral degrees is cardinal red with a tassel in the colour of the College concerned. 1.1.4 For all other degrees the academic cap is black with a black tassel. 1.1.5 College colours COLLEGE COLOUR Agriculture and Environmental Sciences Horsechestnut (red-brown) Economic and Management Sciences Smalt (blue) Law Union Jack (red) Human Sciences Golden brown Science, Engineering and Technology Old Gold 1.1.6 Hoods Bachelors degrees / Baccalaureus Technologiae degrees Candidates are allowed to wear only one hood in which case the hood will be for the specific qualification that the candidate receives during the ceremony. Bordered with the same colour cord as for corresponding bachelor’s / baccalaureus technologiae degree Three year diplomas 1.2.1 The gown for diploma candidates is black and no academic cap is worn. 1.2.2 Black neckbands edged with two ribbons in the colour of the relevant College. 1.2.3 Candidates wear the prescribed neckband before entering the hall. 1.3 Should a candidate arrive at the venue without the prescribed or incorrect neckband/hood such candidate will be introduced to the congregation without a neckband/hood. Regional Directors If required, Regional Directors may wear the prescribed academic apparel for his/her degree concerned. Such apparel must be obtained out of his/her own budget.
