ASTRO System Manager
IP technology has imperiously changed the world of telecommunications, including the applications concerning safety,
emergency calls, and industrial communications. On the basis of this technology, FITRE has developed ASTRO System
Manager, a powerful system which, trough IP network, allows to connect, in a flexible an configurable way, a wide range of

ASTRO System Manager: The INDUSTRIAL COMMUNICATION SYSTEM over IP
MAIN FEATURES
Typically, ASTRO System Manager digital VoIP exchange/controller is used for handling the communications in industrial
field and for handling the emergency call in railway, highway, tunnels applications and so on.
The connection network media can be fibre optic, LAN, ISDN, PSTN lines or any combinations of them.
Thanks to the optional software CTS and CTM , the system guarantees the operation of each telephone set at any time
activating automatically (scheduled programmed activity) the remote diagnostic as well the handling of the emergency
incoming calls.
ASTRO System Manager VoIP exchange can be connected to an existing network (telephone or data).
Thanks to the VoIP technology, all FITRE solutions offer the possibility to design complex systems fully integrated in the
existing voice and data structures cabling. So, it is possible to access to any user of geographically remote sites,
connected trough Intranet or trough an own proprietary net.
ASTRO System Manager VoIP exchange allows a complete and flexible hardware and software programming allowing
own tailoring in terms of configuration, features and performances in order to reduce the handling and servicing costs.

What is the meaning of “High security communications”?
It means a communication system always available for operating. The system is designed for handling in very
fast way the diagnostic functions in order to set automatically warning information in case of break-down of the
system and/or part of it. In addition, the main operator can configure the terminals just using own operator
station.
The terminals are typically based on hand-free telephone
sets, with one or more programming push-buttons in order
to activa te an emer gency cal l address ed to the
programmed operator station.
In any case, the terminals can also CB stations with
handset (the emergency call is activated by lifting the
handset) or CCTV cameras.
Even if the stations are very robust and they designed for
industrial environments, it may happen that they could be
out of service (for example, if the connection cable is
damaged).

Thanks to the IP technology, ASTRO System Manager
controls a wide range of functions in each station. Thanks
to this advanced diagnostic facility, ASTRO System
Manager guarantees the control of the system in higher
way compared to any other technology.
FITRE has developed a series of audio with capability for
integrating the video functions, too native IP terminals in
order to offer the maximum level of performances of own
customers.
In addition, Fitre has developed also a series of terminals
with lower quantity of functions to be connected to ASTRO
System Manager trough the GFX Station Controllers or
ISDN or PSTN lines.

n particular, ASTRO 3000 System Manager digital

performance like a standard telephone system;
performance like a standard party-paging line
intercom system, with the possibility to broadcast
the messages like a P.A. system;
easiness of using;
a wide range of selectable standard telephone sets,
to meet the industrial demands in terms of
environmental and functional features (civil,
weather-proof, explosion-proof, cordless, handsfree types);
an appreciable reduction of the quantity of the field
stations and therefore the cost reduction of the
complete solution;
an estimable decrease of the installation cost, due
to the very simple telephone architecture: each
telephone set is wired to the ASTRO 3000 System
Manager digital unit via IP network or via one
standard twisted telephone pair;
fully programmable numbers of communication
lines trough the loudspeakers and/or the
conversation lines;
capability for handling the redundancy feature: two
ASTRO 3000 System Manager can be installed in the
same plant in order to perform high safety
telephone/intercom and PA functions;
complete cancellation of the “acoustic feed-back”
(Larsen) problem. ASTRO 3000 System Manager
digital system is designed for broadcasting
messages when the microphone of the initiator is
closed; no need for additional cabling between each
station and the relevant loudspeaker(s) for cutting
the connection during the paging activity.
APPLICATIONS:
Using the standard telephone/intercom terminals,
specifically designed by FITRE for meeting all the
industrial requirements, together with the high
performed and flexible system, it is guaranteed the
solution of the communication problems inside any
type of industrial plants like chemical, petrochemical,
iron and steel, as well power plants, concrete factories
and all the inst alla tion s with spec iall y heav y
environmental conditions.
Thanks to the modular architecture, ASTRO 3000
System Manager digital system can be easily
function (PABX).
ASTRO 3000 System Manager digital system is fully
programmable and flexible in order to perform following
main functions:

paging call: each user of the system can accesses
to a selected zone or group of zones or to all the
zones of the loudspeakers in order to broadcast
voice messages for paging a person
party lines: ASTRO 3000 System Manager digital
systems handles automatically the link between the
initiator (paging) and the answering station
establishing automatically the conversation channel
between the two stations. ASTRO 3000 System
Manager handles simultaneously 100% of the
simultaneous conversations
selective calls: each user of the system can dial any
other number of the system according to the
standard PABX function, including if programmed,
the direct call to programmable stations (for
example, Control Room stations).
In addition, ASTRO 3000 System Manager digital system
handles a lot of features concerning the remote
diagnostic functions. Each user receives automatically
voice information about the status of the lines and of the
system (paging/party lines: available or busy).
ASTRO 3000 System Manager digital system handles
automatically the broadcasting of the messages in
order to guarantee the acoustic feed-back problem.
In fact, ASTRO 3000 System Manager stores the
initiator's voice message for broadcasting it
automatically when the initiator himself select the party
line on which he waits for the answer (party line).
This feature is available either when the stations are
VoIP digital and analogue type.
As option, the stations are available with I/O built-in
circuit in order to activates local devices (for example,
CCTV cameras, electric lock, and son on) as well for
detecting local events (for example, tamper switch,
alarm condition, and so on).
Thanks to the native IP technology, ASTRO 3000
System Manager system can handle easily the real
distributed intelligent architecture.
ASTRO 3000 System Manager is equipped with Ethernet
interface in order to be connected to an existing IP fibre
opt ic n et a nd f or h and lin g th e na tiv e VoI P
telephone/intercom stations as well for connecting
remote “Station Controller units” (our GFX type) for
controlling analogue stations.
So, the remote diagnostic is an integrated feature of
ASTRO 3000 System Manager telephone/intercom
system.

When the dialling facility is not required, the system can
operate as stand alone unit. All the telephone/intercom
terminals are connected to the unit via the IP network or
via a standard twisted telephone pair.

ASTRO System Manager Intercom
This software is always necessary in any application of ASTRO System
Manager and it guarantees the functionality of the IP exchange as well the
static configuration:
! “Exchange”: point-to-point calls among the VoIP telephone sets
! “Configuration”: static assignment of the telephone numbers
! “DID”: (Direct Inward Dialling) for handling the incoming call from
subscribers
! “Outbound callerID” identification of a telephone set on the receiving
station during a call
! “Privacy”: static handling of the privacy options (ID, username, password,
caller ID)
! “Voice-mail”: automatic telephone secretary service including the e-mail
sending of the recorder message
! “Portable numbering”: linking a telephone number to a person
! “Scheduler”: automatic handling of the answer
! “Call group”: handling of groups of calls (the first user in the group
answers, the other ones are disconnected)
! “PSTN and ISDN”: mix handling of telephone protocols
! “Follow me”: automatic deviation of a call on another telephone number
of the system
! “Forward”: forward of the call according to programmed condition
(always, busy, no answer, not available )
! “Note book”: possibility for reading the list of telephone numbers

ASTRO System Manager Redundant
(ASTRO System Manager Base is required)
The redundancy facility can be performed according to the following
functionalities (it is possible to combine several functionalities too)
! Full redundancy: two or more HW systems, assembled with the same
configuration. Each system is designed in order to handle the whole
system. In case of fault of one system, the other one will continuate to
operate activating the alarm signalling and the automatic swap.

The “ web server Fitre” configuration functionality allows to:
! Add/Remove/Modify users and telephone sets in dynamic mode
! Add/Remove/Modify groups of users and telephones in dynamic mode (in
PA and Intercom Systems)
! Get access to the configuration of all the parameters listed in “ASTRO
System Manager Base”
ASTRO System Manager Emergency/hot-line
(ASTRO System Manager Base is required)
The functionality “Queue handling and automatic forward of the calls” allows
to handle in easy and reliable way the emergency event where several users
could call simultaneously the operator(s) and the quantity of the operators is
less than necessary or is not in service. In this case, if the quantity of calls is
higher then the operator(s) answering capability than these emergency calls
are handled in queue mode or they are forwarded on different
programmable emergency numbers.
ASTRO System Manager P.A.
(ASTRO System Manager Base is required)
Each zone and/or booster power amplifier requires one IP-DAD (IP-Digital
Audio Decoder) unit.
The VoIP Operator Consoles are based on Fitre TONO-IP station, equipped
with handset and handset-free facility and function keys. As option, TONOIP station can be equipped with gooseneck microphone.
ASTRO System Manager P.A. software allows to:
! Broadcast voice messages on single zone, group of zones, all call
! Broadcast automatically stored alarm tones/messages when an external
event is switched on (e.g. F&G alarm)
! Handle the diagnostic of the booster amplifier as well of the loop
loudspeaker and VoIP Operator Consoles.
The “Intercom” functionality allows following:
! Any user of the system can call in selective mode or group mode or all
the stations of the system. The stations can be programmed in order
to get or not access to this function
! Automatic dialling and voice connection using a function key
! Possibility to configure each station in order to answer to a call using
the handset or in hands-free mode or activating the loudspeaker
(even external amplified one) only.
ASTRO System Manager 3000
(ASTRO System Manager Base is required)
The “Page/Party Line Intercom 3000” functionality allows following:
! Any user of the system can broadcast owns voice message in single
loudspeaker zone or group of zones or all call. The stations can be
programmed in order to get or not access to this function
! Automatic connection between the calling and the answering users
on specific conversation lines
! To handle several intercom conversation lines simultaneously
! To operate as standard telephones (selective point-to-point calls and
conversations)
ASTRO System Manager CTM Configurator
(ASTRO System Manager Base is required)
The “CTM Configurator” functionality allows following:
! To add/delete the analogue station in the list of the diagnostic facility
! To program and update the parameters each station (name of the
station, user number, description of the station)
! To program and update the parameters stored in each station (output
audio volume, mode of answering, microphone sensitivity, functions
of each function key, telephone number to be activated when the user
press the function key, output relay contact)
ASTRO System Manager CTM
(ASTRO System Manager Base is required)
The “CTM” functionality allows following:
! automatic diagnostic of the configured stations
! manual diagnostic of the configured stations
The diagnostic facility includes:
! speech test
! checksum of the data
! download of the statistics data

The “CTS” functionality allows following:
! advanced handling of the emergency calls
! complete integration of audio and video data
! queuing and parking of the emergency calls
! possibility for forwarding the calls among several operators

ASTRO System Manager Compact
The version is based on a very compact board designed by Fitre for hard
environmental conditions (railway, navy and so on).
