Unscrew the protective white cap, taking care not to touch the foil lid foil cutter x . Do not touch foil with your fingers, and do not pierce it with scissors . Screw on tightly. The built-in foil cutter will pierce the foil automatically . Hang the container upside down from the hook on the drip stand *RTH is an abbreviation for “Ready-To-Hang” (the rigid pre-filled plastic bottles containing your feed) -7- Fit giving set to pump and prime the tube open a . Squeeze the drip chamber until it is about one-third full. Do not fill more than half-way closed w Ensure tap is open Tap gently to dislodge any air bubbles Continue squeezing the bellows until feed is near the end of the tube . Correctly located cassette, fully pushed in ‘Click’ into place . Push the cassette firmly into the matching socket on the pump - it should ‘click’ into place . Important: Tap the bellows several times during priming to dislodge any trapped air bubbles . Slowly and gently squeeze the bellows until feed appears past the blue top of the cassette . To remove the cassette, push the blue lever shown here -8- SET RATE and SET DOSE functions . Press the top of the blue flip dial so you can turn the dial . This shows the flip switch in the fully open position See page 2 to find your feeding rate (this example shows 300ml/h, but this may not be your own feeding rate) . Turn dial to SET RATE. The pump will beep 3 times . Press the arrow buttons to dial in your feeding rate See page 2 to find your total dose (this example shows 900ml, but this may not be your own dose) If your dietitian tells you not to set a dose, leave this on ‘0000’ . Turn dial to SET DOSE 3. Press the arrow buttons to dial in the total dose -9- 4FFQBHFJGZPV are using more than one container Connect to feeding tube and start feeding! Flush your feeding tube as directed, then remove end-cover from giving set Connect giving set to your feeding tube. Use purple adaptor if required . Turn the dial to ‘RUN’ to start feeding NOTE The ClearStar pump contains an internal rechargeable battery that can power the pump if the mains power is disconnected. A fully charged battery will power the pump for approximately 24 hours at a feed rate of 125mL/h. If LOW BATTERY shows on the display, it means that the pump will only operate for a further 30 minutes approximately before shutting down. Plug the pump into the mains whenever possible. The battery charges fully in approximately 8 hours. - 10 - VOLUME FED and Vol. Clear button VOLUME FED s Lets you check how much feed you have used during your current feed session . Turn the dial to ‘VOLUME FED’ and the display will indicate how much feed you have used Vol. Clear button . Turn it back to ‘RUN’ to continue feeding s Resets ‘VOLUME FED’ display to zero Vol. Clear button . To reset the VOLUME FED counter to zero, turn the dial to ‘VOLUME FED’ and press the ‘Vol. Clear’ button twice - 11 - . Turn the dial back to ‘RUN’ to continue feeding If more than one container is required You only need to follow the pictures on this page if you have been told to use more than one container, and you have already been trained on how to use the procedures shown The aim is avoid letting the giving set tube ‘run dry’ (empty of feed) between changing containers. This will avoid you having to prime the tubing again. Set dose RTH size 480ml 500ml 980ml 1000ml 1480ml 1500ml For 1st container . Turn dial to RUN ! Alarm sounds when volume of feed you entered in picture has been delivered Display = DOSE Vol. Clear button . Turn dial to VOLUME FED and then press Vol. Clear button twice . Turn the dial to OFF or HOLD. This pauses the pump. Disconnect the old feed container and attach a new one. Reset your feeding rate (if necessary) and dose as recommended by your dietitian, and continue feeding as before. - 12 - Clean your pump every day after feeding damp, not wet ! Do not put pump into water . When you have finished feeding, turn the pump off, switch off the mains power, and unplug from the wall socket . After each feed session, wipe carefully and thoroughly with a damp cloth. It should not be necessary to use detergent . Once a week separate the pump from its outer case for cleaning . Separate them by pressing the lever at the rear of the pump and sliding the two sections apart . To reconnect pump to charger: With pump display panel facing outward, slide pump into charger using the built-in guides for alignment. Slide pump in until it clicks into position, and then check that it is locked in place Slide in until it ‘clicks’ - 13 - Summary of control dial functions Pump operates and delivers feed Amount to be fed. Press to select volume of audio alarm - 14 - Alarms/Alerts: ‘OCCL’ or ‘EMPTY’ Display shows ‘OCCL’ (occlusion) and an audio alarm sounds if the feed cannot be delivered. The ‘EMPTY’ alarm occurs if the bottle is empty or if the cassette becomes loose or is not inserted correctly Bottle not empty? Turn to HOLD to silence the alarm Bottle empty? Check the following s Is the cassette inserted correctly? s Did you shake the DPOUBJOFS gently first? s Is the giving set tubing bent or trapped anywhere? r *TUIFUXPXBZUBQJOUIFGFFEJOHQPTJUJPO TFFQBHF s Is the clamp open on your feeding tube (e.g. nasogastric/gastrostomy tube)? s Is your feeding tube blocked? To check, disconnect the giving set from the feeding tube and RUN the pump into a suitable container. If feed comes out and there is no alarm, it means the pump and giving set are working normally, indicating that your nasogastric/gastrostomy tube is probably blocked (in which case you should contact your Healthcare Professional) r 4UJMMQSPCMFNT UFMFQIPOFUIF"CCPUU/VUSJUJPO1VNQ4FSWJDF$FOUSF Australia: 1800 819 831 New Zealand: 0800 738 090 - 15 - Alarms/Alerts: ‘doSE’ and ‘LOW BATTERY’ Turn to HOLD to silence the alarm s ‘doSE’ means that the dose you entered in ‘SET DOSE’ is finished. Automatic clog clearing has not cleared the obstruction Turn control dial to HOLD. Check pump set tubing for flow restriction (e.g. this could be a kink in the giving set), or there may be a blockage in your feeding tube. Verify that the blockage has been cleared after restarting the pump by checking for the presence of drops in the drip chamber ‘EMPTY’ displayed Feeding container is empty or the bellows are not properly placed in the socket Turn control dial to HOLD. Check the container has feed in it, and also check the tubing for any blockage. Repeat the set up procedure. Make sure the bellows are pushed firmly into the socket until you hear a ‘click’ ‘doSE’ displayed Volume fed equals volume selected To silence alarm, turn dial to HOLD. If the feeding session has finished turn dial to POWER OFF. If you want to continue feeding, see QBHFUPSFTFU70-6.& FED. The two-way tap is open when the purple handle is pointing across the direction of the tube ‘LOW BATTERY’ displayed This is warning you that only about 30 minutes of battery power remain Turn dial to HOLD to silence alarm. Place pump in the charger unit if it was being operated in battery mode, and connect to mains supply. If it was already operating in the charger unit, make sure it is connected to the mains power supply and that the power is turned on. Once connected to power supply, turn dial to RUN to restart pump if applicable Continuous audio alarm and all visual displays go blank. The pump may require servicing If the alarm continues even if the dial is turned to HOLD, it means the pump has malfunctioned.
