Dear colleagues and friends,
on behalf of the Organizing Committee of the 14th Conference of the
European Society of Surgery (ESS) and the European and Italian Chapter of the
American College of Surgeons (ACS) we would like to extend a warm welcome to
Turin.
Turin is a wonderful location for the Congress: it was the first capital of Italy,
and is full of historical monuments, and museums. It is close to the mountains, very
well known for the Olympic Games in 2006, and renown all over the world for its car
factories (Fiat, Lancia, Alfa Romeo). The hospitality is warm and the excellent food
and wine are very well known. These Congresses will be held in “Torino Incontra”
located in the centre of the city, close to piazza Castello, piazza San Carlo, and Via
Roma, all nice places for shopping, dining, walking, and visiting places of great
interest.
The program of the Congresses is arranged into a number of thematic tracks
covering all the surgical fields, especially live confrontation of surgical techniques in
Eastern and Western Europe, mostly using video presentations. The main themes of
the video sessions are: esophageal, gastric, hepatobiliary and colorectal surgery, new
techniques in thyroid, parathyroid and adrenal surgery, future directions in minimal
access surgery, obesity, gastroesophageal reflux disease, hemostasis, infections,
inguinal and incisional hernia repair.
The Named Lectures address contemporary topics focusing on biotechnology
in surgery, cell transplantation, tissue engineering, and robotic surgery.
Selected papers sessions will be held giving the opportunity to visiting surgeons to
present their work, and to discuss it with other, very experienced surgeons coming
from all over Europe.
We hope that you will enjoy the Congresses and find them professionally
profitable and that your stay in Turin will be very pleasant, leaving you with good
memories.
Buon lavoro a tutti,
Alfonso Barbarisi, Lucio Gaspari, Guido Gasparri and Antonio Mussa
