Class Information
All information and assignments are accessible via Blackboard. Information specific to the
laboratory portion of this course is accessible under ‘GEOL 1145’ on Blackboard.
Student Information
It is the student's responsibility to make sure his or her work is turned in on time.
Late work is not accepted without prior approval. Blackboard will not accept assignments
submitted after the due date and assignments are closed. No make-up exams will be given
without prior notification by the student for a legitimate reason or emergency. If a makeup exam
is warranted a written exam may be offered.
Other
Students must be registered for this course, GEOL1445, in order to participate. Academic
dishonesty will NOT be tolerated. Only students enrolled in the course may complete the
coursework. If it is determined that another student is completing the work, disciplinary action
will be administered.

Method of Evaluation: A total of 1000 points will be available for each student to earn based
on exams, quizzes, and lab exercises. The student's overall course grade will be derived from the
total points earned throughout the course.

Weekly Assignments:

• Click on the appropriate week, you should now see a list of assignments.
• Approximately each week you are expected to complete the following assignments:
o Read the textbook chapter(s), relying on the study guide
o Take a quiz by Saturday midnight
o Complete and online lab by Saturday midnight
• Click on ‘Study Guide’ each week. A study guide will be available for the weekly
reading assignment. Consult ‘About Your Study Guide’ for details.
• Click on ‘Quizzes and Exams’. A quiz over the weekly reading assignment will be
available. You have until the end of the scheduled week (Midnight Saturday) to take the
quiz. Consult ‘About Your Quizzes’ for details.
• Click on ‘GEOL 1145 Oceanography Lab’ in Blackboard for weekly lab assignments and
other lab details.

• An optional field trip to Galveston Island is scheduled for the weekend of November 1314. Click on ‘About The Field Trip’ under GEOL 1145 ‘Course Information’ for details
