Libraries are active spaces undergoing many changes to meet customer needs which increasingly involve technology. TechnoLink is a line of circulation desks, tables and computer workstations designed to incorporate technology resources and promote collaboration among staff and customers. The constant evolution of TechnoLink designs and the customizable nature of the pieces have made this a very popular system for public, academic and K–12 libraries.

Long seen as one of the most innovative library systems in the country, San José Public Library uses the general principle of “give the customer what they want.”
A comment on their web page reinforces this by saying,
“We have been listening to our customers, and our new model provides an experience of comfort, convenience, choice and excellent customer service.
It's the San José Way!”
With many newer or newly renovated libraries designed with an exciting bookstore feel, they weren’t satisfied with their existing service desks. They were moving to a roving service model that didn’t require as much space behind a desk, but staff still needed some quick reference materials and a space where services could be consolidated.
As their service focus became more collaborative, spaces where customers and staff could work comfortably together were important. Having more shared space, staff comfort and the ability to meet the different ergonomic needs of many was equally important.
TechnoLink Proves to be a Flexible Solution
Ruth Barefoot, the San José Way Manager, and other staff members from the system worked with the
DEMCO Interiors design team. Together they selected elements of the TechnoLink collection to create tailored solutions, meeting the unique needs of each of their libraries. Intentional design and attention to detail ensured the key requirements of each library were met.
Working with the staff at the San José Public Libraries helped to further develop the TechnoLink line of products into an offering that meets the needs of today’s changing libraries.
The San José Public Library system serves a population of over 1 million constituents and is the largest system between Los Angeles and San Francisco. The system currently consists of a main library and 17 branch libraries, with several other branches in various stages of construction.

The foundation of each desk is created by choosing straight or curved desk components. Both styles feature floating tops which can be finished in a wide range of laminate, linoleum or solid-surface materials. For each cabinet piece, there are storage options of open-front adjustable shelves, cabinet doors, drawers and more.
Space integration and preferences come into focus when designing front panels, selecting wood, steel accents and color palettes. Meeting the needs of multiple staff and service delivery points can be accommodated by choosing to have your entire desk height-adjustable, or just select components.
Many details are considered to ensure functionality is delivered. Wire and cable management is important, as is selection of data and power connections and coordinated placement of grommets. A variety of monitor arms are available, as well as computer storage and security.
DEMCO Interiors is an experienced partner to guide you through the myriad of decisions and details.
