Study in
New Zealand
New Zealand is a diverse and multicultural country and it offers a safe learning
environment with excellent study opportunities.
As a new location to NITT campus, Auckland is a
‘City of Sails’ located in the North Island of New Zealand.
Its unique waterside location fostered a nature-friendly
living environment and is ranked as the one of the world’s
most livable cities which attracts a large population of
different ethnic groups and cultures. With its suburban style
of buildings and architecture, Auckland remains its low
population density feature that makes itself outstanding
from other cities.
Auckland, the most cosmopolitan city, is home to many
cultures where you can mingle with people from different
culture background. It helps you to build a cross-culture
conscious and understanding, which is the very essential
requirement for your future employment in today’s global
business environment.
Auckland is famous for high quality of life with numerous
leisure facilities. Variety of cafes, restaurants, and bars
not only add to Auckland’s vibrant nightlife, but also add
value to its multi culture environment where you can taste
worldwide. Auckland has an oceanic climate and is the
warmest main centre of New Zealand where you can
enjoy sunny most of the time with the company of the
beach, nautical activities, parks, and plenty of nature
reserves.
Auckland is a generous city welcoming everyone from
overseas. The friendly interpersonal environment will make
you feel ease as at home; it also provides an environment
to learn about New Zealand lifestyle and build your social
network and communication skills by interacting with
different people.
The education system is focused on practical learning
in NITT, which aims to improve your practical ability and
enhance the application into real world towards your
future employment. There is no hierarchy between
lectures and students. Self-learning is a major component
under the guidance of our friendly and responsible
lectures, which helps you to participate more in your own
studies and learn faster. This will make you a qualified and
job ready candidate for your future workplace.

must
have APPROPRIATE and current
medical and travel insurance
while studying in New Zealand.
APPROPRIATE
Medical
and
travel insurance: compulsory
for International students at New
Zealand Institute of Technical
Training Ltd.
Suggested minimum
contents for APPROPRIATE
insurance policies
PART 1
Start of cover
The policy should:
• Commence the minute the
student leaves home for the
airport on their way to New
Zealand
• Apply while in transit
• Apply while the student is in
New Zealand
• Cover the student for any trips
to other countries during the
period of study
• Cover the student for any
holidays back to their home
country during the period of
study.
High sums insured and medical
benefits
“Sums insured” is the money
available in the event of a claim.
It is imperative that the sums
insured are very high so they will
not be exceeded in any possible
claim.
Medical
benefits
generally
range from general practitioner
visits and prescriptions through
to major Hospitalization (both
public and private), optical
cover, and emergency dental
cover.
It is preferable that no excess is
applied to medical claims, as
this could deter students seeking
treatment.
Emergency evacuation/
repatriation
Repatriation represents the cost
of getting the student home. The
benefit works two ways:
• If the student becomes
seriously ill or injured and needs
ACCIDENT INSURANCE
The Accident Compensation
Corporation provides accident
insurance for all New Zealand
citizens, residents, and temporary
visitors to New Zealand, but you
may still be liable for all other
medical and related costs.

to be accompanied home with
medical professionals, these costs
are met by the insurance
• If members of the student’s
immediate family living overseas
become critically ill or die, the
policy will fly the student home,
and then back to New Zealand
to complete their studies.
Ideally the policy should have
“unlimited cover”, as very large
sums can be incurred in these
situations.
Accompanying relative cover
If an overseas student in New
Zealand becomes seriously ill or
dies, the policy should pay for
parents to fly to New Zealand on
the first available flight. The dayto-day accommodation and
reasonable living costs in New
Zealand for the parents should
be met, as should the cost of their
airfares home.
Personal effects
Insurance should cover students’
personal
effects,
including
items like expensive musical
instruments, laptop computers,
and sporting equipment.
Limits should be realistic but able
to be increased to represent the
actual value of particular items.
Personal liability cover
This benefit applies when a
student
causes
accidental
damage to property at an
education provider or Home
stay (e.g. breaking expensive
laboratory equipment, spilling
paint on the carpet).
While persons affected could
claim on their insurance, their
insurance company should be
provided with details of the
student’s insurance to recover
costs from the student’s insurer.
Mental illness
Insurance cover should include
mental health.
PART 2
Ensure that insurance is
appropriate and current.
Separate medical and travel
insurance policies
Generally, students should have
combined travel and medical
insurance on one policy, but
separate policies are permitted.
Where students have separate
travel and medical insurance
policies, the travel insurance
policy should cover:
• Loss of baggage and other
personal effects
• Accident and injury
• Disruption to travel plans
• Cost of medical care in any
“stopover” countries
• Costs associated with the death
of a student.
Students with young dependents
Very young international students
may have separate insurance or
be included in a family insurance
package.
Insurance for parents is not
mandatory unless they are also
on student visas, but it is highly
recommended

travel insurance through one of
