 2014 Rice University / UT MD Anderson Med Into Grad Program in Translational Cancer Diagnostics & Therapeutics Research for Bioengineers & Biophysicists Program Details: Rice University and The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center are recruiting a diverse group of talented Ph.D. students to participate in a nationally recognized training program in Translational Cancer Diagnostics and Therapeutics Research for Bioengineers and Biophysicists. Doctoral students from Rice’s Bioengineering, Biochemistry and Cell Biology, and Systems, Synthetic, and Physical Biology programs and from the Medical Physics program at The University of Texas Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences at UT MD Anderson receive specialized training in translational research at the interface of cancer biology, clinical medicine, and the quantitative sciences. Students learn firsthand how to work in highly collaborative environments and apply their technical expertise by attending clinical rounds and taking clinical coursework at UT MD Anderson as well as by carrying out translational, dissertation research with clinical, basic science and medical physics/bioengineering co‐advisors. Students who have been accepted to the Rice Bioengineering, Biochemistry and Cell Biology and Systems, Synthetic, and Physical Biology programs or the Medical Physics program at UT MD Anderson are eligible to apply. (1) Interdisciplinary Coursework: During their first two years, Med Into Grad (MIG) Fellows complete a track of three formal courses offered jointly by Rice and MD Anderson including: (1) One Rice University course (Cancer Biology) (2) Two M.D. Anderson courses (Cancer Biology; and Mechanisms in Cancer Therapeutics); and a program‐specific seminar series. (2) Internship Program: During their first summer, MIG Fellows complete an intensive cancer internship that includes curricula in gross anatomy, cancer histology, cancer biology, and cancer medicine integrated with clinical rotations in diagnostic imaging, medical oncology, surgical oncology, and oncologic radiotherapy. Students are provided a $5,375 stipend and health insurance during the summer internship. The summer 2014 Introductory Clinical Cancer Internship will begin on Monday, June 9, 2014 and will end on Friday, August 1, 2014. International students will need to arrive several days ahead in order to check in with the International Office. To apply, submit the following application form by 3/24.
