Application Notes 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Via internal software programming, a graphical user interface is supplied to the associated LCD touch screen for user control of various RS-485 serial data bus controlled devices. The unit, which incorporates Low Voltage Differential System capabilities, acts as a high-speed interface for AI’s LCD touch screens. The unit has NTSC composite video input connections as well as RS-485 data bus outputs for use with externally connected user interface control devices. Parallel port, keyboard, and mouse interfaces are provided for configuration setup and software updates. The unit also provides an RJ45 jack that serves as a 10 Base-T connection for interface to an Ethernet based network server. This unit generates considerable heat. An internal fan is used to exhaust heat from the unit. Proper ventilation for the unit must be allowed for when specifying the installation location. The closeout around the unit must have an opening of 2” front and back and 4” on each side. The AI-ECU-04-x is operated through “On-Screen” menus on an LCD touch screen panel. These menus guide the user through the various touch screen controls. “On-Screen” menus are configured per customer specifications. The unit incorporates removable brackets to allow for a variety of installation options (plug-in, right or left armrest, bulkhead, etc.) Installation Guidelines 1. 2. All power and ground wires shall be 22 AWG, MINIMUM. Power ground wires shall be grounded within twelve inches of the unit. All wires shall be in accordance with MIL-W-22759 or equivalent. All composite video connections shall utilize RG-179 coaxial cable or equivalent. All shield connections must be maintained through all production breaks. 4. The unit is designed to interface with other AI equipment via AI’s proprietary RS-485 serial data bus. The data bus is to be implemented using a twisted shielded pair cable in accordance with MIL-DTL-27500 or equivalent. The wire size for the conductors in this cable is to be 22 AWG, MINIMUM. Shield terminations are to be made as close to the connector pin as possible. In the event shield pins are not provided, the data bus shield must be terminated per AI’s proprietary RS-485 specification. The OPTIONAL (AOD only) 120 Base-T Ethernet connections shall utilize standard shielded Ethernet cabling compatible with aircraft environments. Each conductor shall be stranded with an overall conductor gauge of 24 AWG (minimum). Overall conductor diameter (including jacket) must be evaluated to conform to mating connector requirements. Twisted pair one must incorporate a lay length of 1.75 to 2 twists per inch. Twisted pair two must incorporate a lay length of 1.08 to 1.33 twists per inch.
