Introducing...SUSTAIN™
For the last few years we’ve been
listening and participating in
conversations regarding methods
to increase the efficiency of our
practices to better serve our
environment and natural resources.
Data from around the country is
telling us that it is time to adjust our
production systems in order to be
more efficient and secure our land for
the future. For the last 12+ months,
we’ve been seeking information and
talking to you, our customers, about
some of these ideas. The time has
come to step forward and act.
What is the SUSTAIN™ program?
You have the
opportunity
to be on the
leading edge
of the future of
farming!
1. YOU MAY ALREADY QUALIFY FOR
THE PROGRAM! Many already utilize
these practices, and will be ahead of
the game when it is most important.
We are happy
to
introduce
that Reddy Ag and Ross Soil
are now authorized SUSTAIN™
retailers. This means that our
agronomists have been trained in
the ONLY platform available now
that connects the grower with the
resources and innovative tools and
techniques designed with the end
user in mind. Many consumers want
grains and vegetables produced
in environmentally stable systems.
Food companies and retailers are
implementing procedures to fulfill
the customers need. The time to get
involved is now!
SUSTAIN™ is a FREE program created
by United Suppliers, Inc. in which a
grower makes a commitment to use
a combination of practices that are
proven to be more sustainable on
their farmland.
SUSTAIN™ has the support of the
Environmental Defense Fund, the US
Environmental Protection Agency
and the United States Department of
Agriculture.
Why should I sign up for the Reddy
Ag/Ross Soil SUSTAIN™ Program?
2. SUSTAIN™ will improve your
profitability! Over the last several
years, management and technology
changes have enhanced production
capabilities to where we can regularly
produce 200+ bushel corn and
70+ bushel soybeans. Use of this
technology continues to bring even
better profits.
SUSTAIN™ utilizes these new technologies.
They include: Nitrogen management
techniques of split application, use
of stabilizers, foliar application, and
computerized management models;
plant and tissue testing; cover crops;
water management practices; and
conservation tillage practices.
3. SUSTAIN™ will reduce the negative
impact
on
the
environment.
SUSTAIN™ uses
the technology
to
manage
applied nutrients
so they are not
over applied and
lost in runoff
Harry Reddy
or
leaching.

programs utilize Ross Soil Service , LLC
local terrain and
soil data to tailor
each program to the farmers own
situation.
4. It is the right thing to do! As you
continue to grow crops to make your
living you will also be improving
your soil, your farm and your
community. Step-by-step the levels
of nitrates and other unwanted
nutrients in your wells and surface
waters will decrease. Your soil loss
will decrease. Each acre will be more
productive.
5. SUSTAIN™ is a voluntary program
at this time. Eventually there will be
a federally mandated program. You
are on the leading edge today. You
are the trailblazer with SUSTAIN™.
These are 5 very good reasons to
enroll in SUSTAIN™. All we need now
is your support!
Reddy Ag and Ross Soil are
holding 5 different SUSTAIN™
informational meetings, all
detailed inside.
These meetings are for you to
get more information about the
platform. See the next page!

Warm, Dry October Means Quick Harvest Progress
Harvest is moving along very well
in the area. Most of October was
filled with great days for harvest and
farmers took advantage of those days.
Rain slowed things down toward
the end of October. November
is just beginning as I am writing
this; right now Soybean harvest is
wrapping up and Corn is about 75%
complete. Most yields for soybeans
were average, to above-average. Dry
weather caused soybean moisture to
range from 8%-15%.
Corn yields have been about average.
Test weight has been excellent. Most
of the corn has been very dry this
year which will save on drying costs.
Moisture out of the field has ranged
from 15%-24% with most samples
registering in the teens.
Now is the time to begin to work
with your agronomist on your plan
for the next crop
year.
Take the
time to get a good
handle on your
input costs. Use
this information
to set realistic
marketing goals.

Lastly, is your bin full of grain? What
is your marketing plan? Don’t forget
Reddy Ag has competitive bids that
include trucking from the farm for
future months. Call us today to
discuss marketing those bushels. If
you have any questions give us a call.
We are here to answer any questions
you have about bringing in grain,
contracting grain, trucking from the
fields, or harvest hours.
Crop Insurance
Production Reporting
As harvest winds down, remember
to report your production to your
crop insurance agent. Yields have
been generally good for both
corn and beans. Be aware that the
posted harvest prices for both crops
have declined, making it easier to
be put in a loss situation. Report
production now to avoid missing
out on any potential indemnity
opportunity.
Posted Crop Insurance Prices:
Spring
Fall
Corn$4.15$3.83
Beans$9.73$8.91

Animal Nutrition Update
Mark Brown
Animal Nutrition
Consultant
(608) 330-1331
Fall is here and
we all know that
winter is just
around the corner.
We have had some
great
weather
for getting crops
harvested
and
bedding made.
For those that
bought
Eprinex
and Ivomec from us, now is the time
to treat. It cleans up the cattle as
well as keeps the pastures cleaner of
parasites for next years animals. We
generally recommend application
around the time we all affectionately
call “deer hunting time.” This is a good
general reference time, as we have
had enough killing frosts and by then
the cattle are pretty much in for the
winter.
We are also coming up on the time to
get products booked for 2016. TMR
and Hay Baling Acid, Innoculants and
Calving Mineral will be on our lists
to talk with you about. Get all these
taken care of when you have some
time and you won’t have to make
last minute decisions. The benefit to
booking product is that it allows us to
buy in volume and get you the best
price possible, as well as have a better
chance to have the products on hand
when you need them.
Don’t forget about your beef cows now
that the calves are weaned; they still
need a high quality mineral to make
sure that next years calf crop is in good
shape. If you feed out your beef calves,
keep in mind that 37.5% of that calf’s
life in spent inside the cow. We need
to feed her well to make sure that calf
is the healthiest it can be when it hits
the ground.
Most of you should be aware by
now that in September the US Feeds
and Hubbard Feeds products were
consolidated under one Hubbard
Feeds brand. There are several US
Feeds products that continue to be
available under the Hubbard Feeds
brand, i.e., Linebacker products. The
combined offering includes products
to meet every producer’s needs.
Please be assured that the products
you like and expect when you order
from us ARE the same mixes from the
same plant. The packaging will be the
only difference at this time.
We are excited about the merger of US
Feeds and Hubbard Feeds. This gives
us more support on the dairy and beef
side to keep you, our customer, up to
date with on nutrition, facilities and
management.
Feed Your Babies More Milk
When the temperature outside dips below 55 degrees,
calves must utilize additional energy in order to maintain
body temperature, leaving less energy for growth and
immunity. In order to maintain growth rates and health of
baby calves, the amount of milk fed needs to be increased
in cooler weather. Two (2) quarts of milk fed twice per day
Sam Enloe
will not meet calves’ energy requirements below 55o. Calves
Animal Nutrition
will try to compensate for the loss of energy by eating more
Consultant
starter feed, but young calves cannot utilize this energy (608) 778-8589
quickly enough. Calves need energy from either milk or milk
replacer, and increasing a calf’s liquid plane of nutrition will result in a larger,
healthier calf. These benefits will result in your calf giving more milk when she
gets into the milking herd.
