Math Adoption
IS Math coordinated and completed the district math adoption
process over a seven month period and the final recommendations
were presented to the Board in April 2009. Over 30 elementary, 10
middle and 13 high school teachers comprised the Mathematics
Adoption Committee. Fifty-three teachers (29 elementary and 24
secondary) were involved in piloting for a period of 4-8 weeks
between January and March. In most cases, teachers piloted two
textbooks in order to make meaningful comparison.
The math textbooks adopted for implementation in 2009-10 are as
follows:
 K-5: enVision Math CA, Scott Foresman/Addison Wesley
 Grade 6: CA Mathematics Course 1, Holt
 Grade 7: Mathematics, CA Pre-algebra, Pearson/Prentice Hall
 Middle School Algebra 1: CA Mathematics: Algebra 1, Holt
 High School Algebra 1: CA Algebra 1, Pearson/Prentice Hall
 Geometry: CA Mathematics Geometry, Holt
 Intermediate Algebra: Intermediate Algebra, 5th edition,(MartinGay), Pearson/Addison Wesley
 Advanced Algebra: Algebra 2, Holt

Pearson/Addison Wesley
 AP Calculus AB/AP Calculus BC: Calculus (Demana, et al),
Pearson/Addison Wesley
 Probability & Statistics: The Basic Practice of Statistics, Freeman
 AP Statistics: The Practices of Statistics, Freeman
Williams’ Case Audits
 The District Elementary and District Secondary Math Coaches
visited and provided support to sites to ensure that sites had the
necessary math textbooks and materials.
Math Pacing Guides
With the assistance of math teacher leaders, IS Math develops
District pacing guides and revises them yearly. In addition, IS Math
partners with Swun Math to create unified K-7 Math Pacing Guides.
Pacing guides aligned with each of the new math textbooks listed
above were distributed to sites in June 2009 and also listed on the
district intranet.
