To date, Philips’ PCB business has mainly provided manufacturing and assembly of PCBs for Philips’ in-house production of consumer electronics products. The Commission assessed the impact of the transaction in the market for electronic manufacturing services provided to original equipment manufacturers, in particular those in the consumers electronics sector. Given the parties’ small market shares (below 20%), the existence of strong competitors such as Flextronics International, Celestica, Sanmina-SCI and Solectron, and the possibility for some customers to manufacture their requirements of printed circuit board assemblies internally, the Commission has concluded that the transaction does not give rise to competition concerns either at European level or world-wide. Jabil is a manufacturer of printed circuit board assemblies and systems for global electronic product companies. Jabil offers manufacturing and assembly services, including circuit design, board design, prototype assembly, volume board assembly and system assembly services. Philips is a multinational company active in the manufacture and sale of electronic products for domestic appliances, consumer electronics and medical purposes.
