Our News One Saint Joseph Drive Lexington, KY 40504 859.313.1705 SaintJosephFoundation.org KentuckyOneHealth.org Volume 3 Issue 3 December 2013 From the President Last year the Saint Joseph Hospital Foundation helped provide healing and hope to over 150,000 patients and families. In honor of our Savior’s birthday, let me thank you for making Saint Joseph Hospital, Saint Joseph East and Saint Joseph Jessamine RJ Corman Ambulatory Care Center something that is worthy of being an extension of Christ’s healing ministry. As part of KentuckyOne Health our hospital caregivers continue to provide exceptional care to our Lexington and the Central/Eastern Kentucky region. It is such an honor for all of us to continue to build upon this legacy of serving and we could not do it without your investment and support. During this season of giving, would you be willing to help us save more lives? A gift provides: The Saint Joseph Foundation Celebrates 25th Annual S*T*A*R*S Gala The Saint Joseph Hospital Foundation S*T*A*R*S (Saint Joseph Associates for Renowned Service) celebrates 25 years. The elegant gala has raised over $1 million dollars to enhance the mission and outreach of Saint Joseph Hospital, Saint Joseph East, and Saint Joseph Jessamine RJ Corman Ambulatory Care Center. We are proud to announce that S*T*A*R*S raised over $86,000, and we hosted our largest crowd to date with 360 attendees. This special celebration presented by The Lexington Clinic recognized the Nurses Choice Award winners: Dr. Timothy Anderson from Saint Joseph East and Dr. Neal Steil from Saint Joseph Hospital. Dr. Andy Henderson was recognized as the Outstanding Community Volunteer. The S*T*A*R*S was hosted by WKYT-TV’s Channel 27 anchor’s Sam Dick and Amber Philpot. S*T*A*R*S president Leslie Fannin said, “We were extremely proud that seven former presidents and founding members were in attendance and enjoyed an exceptional evening.” John Smithhisler, Central and Eastern Kentucky Market Leader; Timothy Anderson, MD, 2012 Nurses Choice Award Winner: Saint Joseph East; Barry A. Have a very merry Christmas and a wonderful new year. Blessings, Barry A. Stumbo President and CEO Saint Joseph Hospital Foundation Foundation Staff: Di Boyer, Pat Campbell, Barry A. Stumbo, Anna Taylor and April Nease Free Mammograms: “Yes, Mamm!” “Yes, Mamm!” began as a need the Foundation identified three years ago. Underserved men and women were foregoing mammography due to financial pressures. The Foundation formulated a funding plan to connect donors, grants and cancer related organizations so they could collaborate. In all, over $60,000 was raised last year and, as a result of the popularity of Yes, Mamm!, funds will be exhausted before all the people that need our help can be served. When you walk in the Susan G. Komen race, buy a pink Kentucky license plate or attend the Evening With The S*T*A*R*S gala, your donation helps provide resources that save lives right here at home. Dr. Kimberly Stigers, Foundation board member and radiologist at the Saint Joseph Breast Center, has witnessed personally the impact this funding provides her patients. Stigers said, “‘Yes, Mamm!’ has helped us develop a seamless way we can help patients and families maneuver through the breast screening, diagnosis and treatment plan process.” L to R: Korey Colyer, April Corman Colyer, Barry A. Stumbo, Sandy Adams and Jerry Adams Saint Joseph Hospital Foundation Supporter RJ Corman Honored on National Philanthropy Day Pat Campbell, who has worked at the Saint Joseph Hospital Foundation for nineteen years, can attest to that. She said, “My dream is that one day we have a world without breast cancer.” Campbell has been fighting her breast cancer battle for the last fifteen years. The late RJ Corman, supporter of the Saint Joseph Hospital Foundation, part of KentuckyOne Health, was recognized at the annual National Philanthropy Day (NPD) luncheon hosted by the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP), Bluegrass Chapter on Wednesday, November 13, 2013. Please say “Yes, Mamm!” Every dollar is a gift of hope. A gift of impact. A gift of love that allows us to detect cancer earlier and prolong life expectancy. With over 400 people in attendance at the Mariott Griffin Gate, the Foundation was one of twenty organizations to honor their top philanthropists at the annual event. The program honors individuals or groups who demonstrate an outstanding commitment to the community through their philanthropic endeavors. Employees Give Generously to the “Perfect Gift” Campaign Thank you to the Saint Joseph staff members who made this year’s employee giving campaign, The Perfect Gift, another huge success. The annual campaign raised over $162,500 and benefits Saint Joseph Hospital, Saint Joseph East and Saint Joseph Jessamine RJ Corman Ambulatory Care Center. Some of the programs that were supported include: • Appalachian Outreach Program • Employee Emergency Assistance Fund Corman, who passed away in August, was the largest philanthropic supporter in Saint Joseph history. Among his many contributions, RJ Corman, along with the RJ Corman Railroad Group, provided funds to establish and build Saint Joseph Jessamine RJ Corman Ambulatory Care Center in 2008. This past April, Corman bestowed a generous gift to the Foundation to bring digital mammography services to Saint Joseph Jessamine. The gift, made in honor of his sister, created the Sandra J. Adams Digital Mammography Suite at the facility and marked the first time mammography services had been available at the center. “Each year the Association of Fundraising Professionals seeks nominations for these awards,” said Barry Stumbo, president and CEO, Saint Joseph Hospital Foundation. “It was an honor for us to nominate Rick. He was a good friend, a compassionate person and most deserving of this recognition. His generosity has impacted the health and wellbeing of countless people in our region. That is an incredible legacy.” Corman’s sister, Sandra J. Adams and her husband Jerry, along with Corman’s daughter, April Corman Colyer, and her husband, Korey, were present to accept the honor in his memory. • Continuing Care Clinic • Patient and Family Assistance Fund • Continuing Medical Education • Nursing Scholarship Program • Greatest Needs In the past five years employees of Saint Joseph have raised over $1,000,000 for equipment, technology and mission and outreach programs. Both monetary and PTO donations were given. Saint Joseph Hospital Foundation Supports the Children Day Care Center The Foundation recently purchased $41,000 of age appropriate recreational equipment for the Day Care Center. The original equipment was over 23-years-old. The center was created to serve Saint Joseph employees and their families. They enroll over 75 children throughout the year. Joseph J. She felt called to be a midwife at the age of 8 after introducing a nurse-midwife to her fourth grade class on career day. Beth was passionate about her work and continued working throughout her nine year battle with ovarian cancer. Remarkably, she delivered a baby only 36 hours before lapsing into a coma. During her extraordinarily career, she delivered nearly 1,000 babies. She was an incredible human being who was loved by those she touched. The Beth Broderson Bray Healing Garden was funded by generous gifts made by her family, friends, colleagues and patients to the Saint Joseph Hospital Foundation. The dedication of the garden at the Saint Joseph East Cancer Center was held on Saturday, October 26, 2013. L to R: Di Boyer, Barry A.
