The end-launch SMA connectors facilitate easy SMA-coax cable links to standard 50 Ohm terminated test equipment such as high speed oscilloscopes and pattern generators. The data lines are AC coupled. Power is supplied via a simple screw-down connector and requires 3.3V DC voltage. Jumper pin options are provided to enable/disable the TX transceiver and to enable/disable an indicator LED on the signal detect (SD) line. This test board is ideal for evaluation of a high speed plastic optic fiber link. A single board can be used in loop-back, or a pair of test boards will provide the capability to test full-duplex operation. The transmitter is driven from a pattern generator which typically uses a PRBS-7 data pattern which is 8B10B encoded. The test PCB has on-board AC coupling and is compatible with an LVDS data bus using differential voltage swings of minimum 500mV to maximum 1200mV. Current consumption can be estimated by measuring the current supplied to the PCB on its 3.3V DC interface. The separate pattern generators guarantee that the data seen by the receiver is uncorrelated to the data being sent by the transmitter in the same GDL1000T OptoLock. This test set-up accounts for cross-talk between TX and RX and allows evaluation of real world operation. By operating in full-duplex mode it is possible to duplicate protocols like 1000BaseSX, the GigE over fiber standard.
