DIRECTIONS: Show all work and provide complete solutions for each of the following problems.
1.
A proton is released from rest in a uniform field with a magnitude of 8.0 x 104 V/m. The proton is displaced 0.50
m as a result. A) Find the potential difference between the proton’s initial and final positions. B) Find the change
in electrical potential energy of the proton as a result of this displacement.
2.
Find the potential difference between a point infinitely far away and a point 1.0 cm from a proton.
3.
A 5.0 µC point charge is at the origin, and a point charge of -2.0 µC is on the x-axis at (3.0 m, 0.0 m). Find the total
potential difference resulting from these charges between point P, with coordinates (0.0 m, 4.0 m), and a point
infinitely far away.
4.
Two charges of magnitude +5.0 nC and -3.0 nC are separated by 35.0 cm. What is the potential difference between
a point infinitely far away and a point midway between the charges?
5.
Four particles with charges of 5.0 µC, 3.0 µC, 3.0 µC, and -5.0 µC are placed at the corners of a 2.0 m x 2.0 m square.
Determine the potential difference between the center of the square and infinity.
