Ph.D. Scientists/Engineers (Entry Level) – Chemical Engineers

Description:

DuPont Central Research and Development (CR&D) is seeking entry level PhD Chemical Engineers that combine a hands-on experimental background with a demonstrated knowledge of engineering fundamentals. The candidates should have strong backgrounds in applying engineering dynamics to polymer processes, ability to work with chemical or biochemical type reactions or to deal with chemical based process creation and development. Typical project assignments entail novel chemical and/or material process development in an innovative research environment.

One key component of DuPont Science and Technology is the effort of Central Research and Development (CR&D), which employs more than 1,000 people at the Experimental Station and other research sites in Northern Delaware.

CR&D is the foundation of our science efforts and has been responsible for most of our major product breakthroughs.

CR&D provides both leveraged scientific services and long-term research activities to the corporation. Scientists and engineers within CR&D work within multi-disciplinary teams along side DuPont businesses to develop novel products and processes across a spectrum of applications.

Qualifications:

Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering.

Experience in process development, lab scale feasibility setup and process scale-up is desirable.

Experience in the following areas is a plus:

 process and product design

 process synthesis

 reaction engineering

 homogeneous and/or heterogeneous catalysis

 surface science

 separation technologies

 polymer properties and polymer rheology

 polymer processing

 polymer composites and nanocomposites

Ph.D. Engineers (Entry Level) – Bioprocess Engineers

Description:

The DuPont Biochemical Sciences and Engineering group within Central Research and Development has an immediate opening for Biochemical Engineers with a strong background in process research and development. The position involves development of novel bioprocesses including fermentation based production via recombinant strains and product recovery at lab through pilot scales. Successful applicants will have excellent communication, project management, and leadership skills as well as strong theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience in one or more areas including bioreactor design, fermentation optimization, and downstream separations/purification design. The position also requires conceptual design and experimental validation of fermentation-based processes within a collaborative and multidisciplinary team of molecular biologists, biochemists, and engineers.

Ph.D. Scientist/Engineer (Entry Level) – Research Investigator

Description:

DuPont Chemicals and Fluroproducts is looking for a Research Investigator for its Nafion® Business at the Fayetteville, NC site to develop next generation of membrane products with the initial focus on products needed for Chlor-Alkali electrolysis applications.

The Fayetteville Works site is located south of Fayetteville in the lower eastern portion of North Carolina.

Fayetteville is ideally located within easy driving distance to the mountains and beaches and offers a moderate climate. The site has a highly flexible and motivated work force and a history of world-class implementation of major projects.

Responsibilities:

Work with marketing and technical services personnel to understand performance of existing product lines and customer needs (CTQs). Conduct gap analysis and translate them in to achievable technical requirements and project plans for new product introductions.

Work with the technology guardian and plant operation staff to gain a thorough knowledge on membrane production process and understand interactions between process parameters and product performance and quality.

Lead the technology workstreams associated with new product development projects.

Interact with key customers to qualify new product candidates.

Work with key material suppliers to improve cost and quality. Also, work with existing or new suppliers to develop next generation material to improve DuPont membrane performance

Participate and engage in existing quality and cost improvement projects in support of existing product lines.

Qualifications:

Prefer Ph. D. in Chemical Engineering, Polymer Science or related fields.

Experience in and knowledge of key film and membrane manufacturing unit operations

(extrusion, lamination, coating, etc).

Ability to work well within a multi-functional team.

Demonstrated project management skills

Results oriented with ability to solve problems.

Ability to work with minimum supervision.

Experience in interacting with customers and suppliers

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Green or black belt certification preferred.
