ELS/Santa Cruz also offers many advantages to its students: •The Center is located just a short bus ride from the University of California at Santa Cruz (UCSC) and Cabrillo College •Students have free access to UCSC’s recreational facilities including fitness equipment, and recreational sport training lessons such as surfing, kayaking, camping, etc. •Concurrent enrollment in any UC Santa Cruz class is available to students who have completed ELS 109 (English for Academic Purposes), through the UCSC extension department. Students must have met all normal pre-requisite requirements for the courses, and enrollment is based on faculty approval and space availability. It is also home to one of the most famous wooden rollercoaster’s, the “Giant Dipper” •Santa Cruz is famous for being recognized as the birthplace of surfing on the mainland of the USA, so enthusiasts can enjoying great surfing or visit the Santa Cruz Surfing Museum •Additional outdoors activities can be found nearby such as skateboarding, mountain biking, camping and golf •Students can also enjoy nearby art galleries, cafes, museums, movie theaters, shopping, sailing, parks and other community activities and festivals Housing: Housing in both homestays and student residences are available.
