Construction Management Plan
Introduction:
The Construction Management Plan (CMP) should help minimise the impact of their
construction on the surrounding community, both for the construction on site and the
transport arrangements for servicing the site.
The completed CMP should address how any impacts associated with the proposed works
will be mitigated and manage the cumulative impacts on construction in the vicinity of the
site as stipulated by Derbyshire County Council.

The project is located adjacent to the A6 (Derby Road), Milford, Derbyshire, DE56 0QF and
has been issued to NMCNomenca from Severn Trent Water as part of their Amp6
sustainability process. The site compromises of a sewerage pumping station built into a
flood bank with a steel wetwell/drywell sub structure and brick building pumphouse to
protect the motor control panels. This station currently serves 60 properties within the
Milford area. The site is located predominantly within a rural area, landlocked by fields, a
bowling green and the A6 road.
Brief description of works:
The works include the initial site setup phase which consist of:
• Setting up traffic management.
• Isolating the flows from the SPS catchment which is located within the carriageway
(see image 1) by overpumping and bypassing the SPS.
• Removal of existing pumps, pipework and electrical assets.
• The Demolition and decommission phase which will include the complete demolition
of the brick building and controlled demolition of the highway wall as detailed in the
planning drawings S72960-PA-50002-D.
The main construction stage compromises of stabilising the land owned by Severn Trent
Water by forming a retaining wall with brick finish to increase the proposed SPS levels to
that of the existing Derby Road footpath. Once the land and road is stabilised then the
excavation of the proposed new sewerage pumping station will commence to allow for a
new below ground level wetwell and valve chamber complete with pumps, pipework and
valves. To operate the new SPS, a motor control kiosk will be installed with below ground
ducts consisting of low/high voltage cables and BT line.
The final phase will consist of reinstatement and landscaping. The new SPS will have a new
treated perimeter fencing made up of 1.2m post and rail. Once the works are completed the
highway wall will be reinstated with new access opening to the SPS.

Noise and dust generated by the demolition and construction process will be considered
and its impacts mitigated to include:
• Working no later than 7:00pm, no heavy plant operating after 6:00pm
• The location of site offices, site transportation and storage areas to be located away
from the residential area of the Woolridge with a hoarding barrier (see Image 3).
• Machines and equipment in intermittent use will be shut or throttled down when
not in use.
• NMCN will ensure that the area around the site and compound including the public
highway is adequately swept to prevent any accumulation of dust and dirt.
• Burning of materials is not permitted.

Environmental Agency – 0800 80 70 60
All STATs plans location services have been provided to NMCNomenca to aid the design and
construction process.
Transportation Issues Associated with the Site:
The traffic management procedures are imperative for the efficient handling of materials
and waste for the project, but also ensure effective management of vehicles, passing traffic
and pedestrians. The traffic management plan will be controlled by both the site manager
and project manager. The material deliveries and muck away will be within a controlled
working zone in the A6 single carriageway. Deliveries of minor goods will be dropped at the
site compound within Nealies carpark.
The site manager will manage the traffic and working within the unloading point on the
road. All deliveries will have an order note asking that they call the site manager in advance
to prepare. Any critical deliveries i.e. large pre cast elements will have a set delivery date
and time.
A lifting plan will be implemented in relation to all lifting operations involving lifting
equipment in accordance with LOLER (Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations
1998).
Traffic Lights will be manned from 7:00-19:00 to reduce the amount of queuing. The
manned traffic lights and lane closure should not affect pedestrian and cycle safety. The
footpath adjacent to the SPS only leads to the SPS itself, if pedestrians wish to access The
Woodridge Cul-De-Sac by foot then they can use the footpath on the other side of the road.
NMCN will install all safety signs on hoarding/heras fencing ad footpaths to show clear and
safe access routes.

StakeHolders:
Local stakeholders and businesses will be notified with a letter of intent to start the works 1
month prior to starting. This will include the scope of works, planned start and completion
dates along with contact details of NMCN managers and STW customer liaison officers.
Protection of Highways assets:
Due the existing SPS being located within an area at risk of flooding, all works will have to be
accessed from the A6 via the drystone wall. To enable the excavations and lift the retaining
wall systems into position, the wall will have to be demolished and stored until reinstated.
An opening 16m wide will be required to allow for sufficient access around the sides of the
proposed SPS. Each coping and stone will be removed by hand with portable tools and
stored/stacked in a dry location in piles of sizes from small to large. Any severely weathered
stones will be disposed of and replaced with a similar stone.
Once it’s time to reinstate, the existing wall footings will be reused and the stones will be
piled up in flat layers. Each layer consists of tightly packed stones with a mixture of a few
large stones running lengthwise into the wall and lots of smaller stones packed in between
them. As few gaps as possible will be left. For the mortar mix, it is intended to use a
hydraulic lime with flush/struck jointing to prevent moisture penetrating the stone.

Dear Nigel,
Following my previous email sent on the 26th May 2016, relating to the redesign of the scheme, materials to
be utilised and boundary treatments, I have looked at the consultation responses received from the
Highways Authority. Accordingly, we intend to send a method statement by the end of next week
addressing all of the points raised, in order to avoid the imposition of the pre-commencement conditions.
Have you received any correspondence from the Conservation officer with regard the amendments?
Kind regards,
Mark
