PRIZM® Ferrules
Ferrules
PRIZM® MT Ferrules
The PRIZM® MT ferrule takes robust multi-fiber expanded beam connectors to the equipment card-edge. The
outer dimensional footprint is identical to traditional MT ferrules making the PRIZM® MT compatible with any MT
ferule based connector hardware package. The novel, molded-in, hermaphroditic post and hole alignment features
eliminate the need for costly stainless steel guide pins. Complex, costly endface geometry and polishing control
associated with physical contact array connectors are eliminated with the no-polish, free-space, expanded beam
PRIZM® MT ferrule, all while greatly reducing sensitivity to debris. Reduction in the necessary ferrule spring force
makes this optical interconnect ideal for applications requiring mass mating of multiple ferrules in high density trunk
cables and optical backplanes. The US Conec PRIZM® MT ferrule platform supports fiber rows of up to 16 fibers
and up to 4 rows of fibers for fiber lane counts as high as 64.

PRIZM® Ferrules
The PRIZM® LightTurn® is a monolithic, precision molded ferrule incorporating an array of microholes that accepts a
ribbonized array of cleaved fibers and aligns them with individual aspheric total internal reflection (TIR) lenses. Each
TIR lens redirects the light path approximately 90° to the fiber axis facilitating perpendicular mating to the printed
circuit board. Molded alignment posts at the ferrule’s optical exit window facilitate precision alignment to parallel
optic devices. Termination is simple and low cost requiring no polishing of fibers. Fiber is secured to the ferrule with
either a UV or thermal cure indexed matching epoxy. The PRIZM® LightTurn® ferrule is typically used in conjunction
with US Conec’s PRIZM® LightTurn® connector hardware and Module Optical Interface (MOI) to create a miniature,
detachable connector solution for high speed board mounted parallel optic sources and detectors.
Features
• TIR (total internal reflection) lenses
• Collimated light at PRIZM® exit window
• Precision microholes and fiber stop plane capture and position fibers
for reliable & repeatable operation
• Wavelength independent optical grade material
• Bidirectional operation; one ferrule for both Tx and Rx operation
• Precision integrated alignment posts

PRIZM® LightTurn® Ferrules
MTP® Connectors
MTP® Connectors
US Conec manufactures durable MTP® brand connectors that provide quick connection for up to 72 optical fibers.
Connection integrity is provided by adapter latches which are locked into place on the connector plug by a spring
loaded sliding mechanism. Precision alignment is achieved with patented guide pins combined with the tightly
controlled guide pin holes on US Conec’s MT ferrules. Removable housings allow for quick change of gender, ferrule
cleaning, interferometry or connector re-polishing.
Connectors
Environments
MTP® connectors have been qualified to appropriate industry standards based on the intended operating
environment. Controlled environment connectors are intended for use in air conditioned spaces like data centers,
central office buildings and LAN environments. US Conec’s uncontrolled environment MTP® solution was designed
specifically for use in harsh telecom environments where the connector may be exposed to higher temperature
extremes, require additional strength or resistance to corrosion and fungal growth. All US Conec MTP® hardware is
qualified to the appropriate GR-1435 Service Life or TIA-568 optical connector performance standards.
Spring Force: Standard vs. High Spring Force
US Conec’s Standard Spring Force MTP® hardware packages ensure that ferrule endface contact forces are compliant
with the traditional loads specified in IEC 61754-7-1 and TIA 604-5. These loads ensure physical contact of fiber tips
on ferrules populated with up to 12 fibers in a single array. US Conec has also released High Spring Force hardware
packages in accordance with emerging multi-row IEC MPO intermateability standard, 61754-7-2. The High Spring
Force MTP® solution ensures optimal performance via physical contact when used in conjunction with two row, 24
fiber, flat polished ferrules.
High Fiber Count: Standard vs. High Fiber Count
High Fiber Count MTP® connectors replicate the function and mating force of Standard Spring Force MTP® connectors
but with a larger spring size. With the increased demand for high fiber count cables such as 16, 24, 32, and 48 fibers,
the larger spring (High Fiber Count) hardware package provides more internal diameter space for the various fiber
counts.
Features
• Patented floating ferrule design ensures fiber contact integrity
• Terminates ribbon fiber or loose individual fibers
• Designed for low loss and standard loss SM and MM applications
• Patented elliptical guide pin tip to minimize ferrule debris

MTP® Connectors | Round | Controlled Environments
Standard Spring Force
Ø 2.0mm – 3.0mm Nominal Cable OD
Round, multi-fiber interconnect cables with loose, individual fibers provide cable routing and performance
advantages over traditional ribbon based cables. By eliminating the preferential bend associated with ribbon, round
cables can be routed and mechanically loaded in any axis relative to the MTP® connector port. US Conec’s round
MTP® hardware components are designed for easy termination to the loose fiber cables via the use of a simple, US
Conec ribbonization process.
Connectors
With the availability of tight bend radius MM fiber, the short boot design supports applications where available space
in front of the bulkhead for cable routing is limited.

MTP® Connectors | Round | Controlled Environments
Standard Spring Force | High Fiber Count | MTP-FLEX
Ø 3.0mm – 3.6mm Nominal Cable OD
The MTP® connector with bendable strain relief supports 3mm and 3.6mm diameter cables in highly dense areas.
The advanced design will offer 0* and 90* flexible positioning, enduring multiple bends in the preferred and
non-preferred directions with minimal impact on performance. Where access to optical front panels may be a
challenge, the new MTP-FLEX boot will enable ease of access and installation with the capability to maneuver fiber
cable in any direction.

MTP® Connectors | 900μm | Controlled Environments
Standard Spring Force | High Fiber Count | 900μm
900 micron MTP® hardware kits provide a compact, cost effective solution for multi-fiber assemblies which require
the MTP® hardware to be integrated with single-fiber connector assemblies. These kits enable 900 micron,
tight-buffered fiber pigtails to be terminated directly into the cable exit portion of the MTP® connector hardware.
Alternatively, customer-provided, 900 micron furcation tubes can be coupled into the cable exit allowing for
pre-terminated MT-ferrule ribbon pigtails to be fanned out and threaded into the protective tubing. Mechanical
coupling between the 900 micron tubing and connector hardware ensures a reliable termination ideal for fiber
distribution hub and breakout cassette applications while eliminating the need for traditional breakout hardware.

Connectors
The MTP-16™ connector family encompasses the 16 fiber MT ferrule, connector hardware, and bulkhead adapters.
Utilizing the same external footprint as the existing traditional 12 fiber MT ferrule, the 16 fiber MT Elite® is available in
one or two rows of 16 fibers and leverages all the proven features and technology of our traditional PPS MT ferrules.
The connector hardware offers a unique keying feature as opposed to the centered keying feature on the traditional
MPO hardware. This new keying design, standardized by TIA 604-18 (FOCIS 18) and the emerging IEC 61754-7-3
and IEC 61754-7-4, ensures proper mating of the MTP-16™ connector without inadvertently mating the 16 fiber
connector hardware with standard MPO compliant hardware. MTP-16™ adapters are available in full or reduced
flange mounting and opposed or aligned key orientation.

PRIZM® LightTurn® Connector
PRIZM® LightTurn® Connector
Designed as a miniature detachable connector for board mounted parallel optic modules, the PRIZM® LightTurn®
connector provides passive alignment and novel retention features allowing multiple re-matings\perpendicular to the
printed circuit board. The PRIZM® LightTurn® connector consists of a multi-fiber ferrule with a photonic turn TIR lens
array accepting cleaved fibers with an accompanying connector housing. The termination is simple and low cost
requiring no polishing of fibers and easy testing, yet providing excellent passive coupling to the VCSEL and
photodiode array within the parallel optic module or Active Optical Cable.
The use of one or more PRIZM® LightTurn® connectors in combination with US Conec’s MTP® brand MPO style
connector provides an effective means to produce MPO-based pluggable transceivers. The connector is suitable for
use across multiple applications including telecom, datacom, and the emerging high speed computercom markets.

PRIZM® LightTurn® Connector
PRIZM® LightTurn® Mechanical Optical Interface (MOI)
The MOI provides the coupling interface between the PRIZM® LightTurn® connector and the optical transmitter or
photodiode array. The MOI is first aligned to the transmitter or photodiode array and permanently attached to the
substrate allowing for passive alignment of the PRIZM connector. The connector housing latches hold the PRIZM
connector to the MOI facilitating multiple rematings. A secondary optic is embedded in the MOI to relay light through
the system. In a transmit configuration, the output from each transmitter is collimated by the MOI so that it is
focused by the PRIZM connector TIR lens for coupling into multimode fiber. In a receive configuration the nearly
collimated output from the PRIZM ferrule TIR lens is focused by the secondary optic onto the detector.
• Bidirectional operation; one MOI for both Tx and Rx operation
• Enhanced post features for consistent and stronger bond performance to PCB substrate
• Provides passive alignment and multiple rematings of the PRIZM® LightTurn® connector
• Improved clearance for driver chip sets and wire bonds
• Lower profile to fit into smaller packages like QSFP
• Available in different lens prescriptions and stand-off post heights for optimizing into
VCSEL/PD arrays
