The siding is available in a range of colors, with a smooth finish or embossed with a matte or wood grain texture. The wall thicknesses of the 7" Shake, 7" Shingle and 6" Shape products range from 0.040 are not to be construed as representing aesthetics or any other attributes not specifically addressed, nor are they to be construed as an endorsement of the subject of the report or a recommendation for its use. There is no warranty by ICC Evaluation Service, Inc., express or implied, as to any finding or other matter in this report, or as to any product covered by the report. Copyright © 2007 Page 1 of 3 Page 2 of 3 to 0.050 inch (1.02 to 1.27 mm), and the products are produced in a variety of profiles. The wall thicknesses of the Staggered Shake and the 5" Shingle products range from 0.050 to 0.060 inch (1.27 to 1.52 mm). Refer to Table 1 for the profiles and related descriptive information. Accessory materials such as outside corners, starter strips, J-channels and utility trim are manufactured from the same material as the siding. 4.0 DESIGN AND INSTALLATION 4.1 General: Installation of Foundry Premium Vinyl Siding products must comply with ASTM D 4756, this report, the manufacturer’s published installation instructions and the applicable code. The manufacturer’s published installation instructions must be available at the jobsite at all times during installation. The siding must be installed over minimum 15/32-inch-thick (11.9 mm) plywood sheathing in accordance with the applicable code, with an approved water-resistive barrier (IBC) or weather-resistant sheathing paper (IRC) [not less than 1/2 inch thick (12.7 mm)] to provide an even base for the siding, as required by the applicable code. Flashing in accordance with the applicable code must be installed at all openings, penetrations, and abutments with dissimilar materials, and at terminations of the sidings and soffit. In order to achieve the allowable negative wind load resistance set forth in Table 1, the wood stud framing must have a minimum specific gravity of 0.42. Additionally, such furring strips, wood stud framing materials and related fastenings shall be of sufficient strength to resist the imposed loads as required by the applicable code. Fasteners for attaching the siding must be 7/16-inch-crown (11.1 mm) corrosion-resistant staples, 16 gage and 11/2 inches (38 mm) long, or minimum 11/2-inch-long (38 mm) galvanized nails with 3 /8-inch-diameter (9.5 mm) heads and 1/8-inch-diameter (3.2 mm) smooth shanks. The fasteners must be long enough to penetrate a minimum of 1 inch (25.4 mm) into the substrate or through the plywood, as applicable. The nails must be installed through the center of the nailing slots, leaving a minimum 1/8-inch (3.2 mm) space between the fastener head and the face of the vinyl nailing hem, so as not to restrict movement due to expansion and contraction. The staples must also be installed so as not to restrict movement due to expansion and contraction. The fastener spacing is as designated in Table 1. Panels must be able to expand and contract. If the outside temperature is 50°F (10°C) or above, a 3/8-inch-wide (9.5 mm) gap must be provided at the siding panel ends. If the temperature is below 50°F (10°C), a 1/2-inch-wide (12.7 mm) gap must be provided at the siding panel ends. The bottom corners of the shake, shingle and staggered shake products must be installed on the top step of the wood grains of the lower panels. The siding must not be nailed tightly and the nails must not be covered. Accessory materials such as outside corners, starter strips, J-channels and utility trim must be installed in accordance ESR-1728 with the manufacturer’s published installation instructions and the applicable code. A minimum 3/8-inch (9.5 mm) clearance is required on all J-channels and stops to allow for panel expansion and contraction. 4.2 Wind Resistance: The design negative wind pressure must be determined in accordance with IBC Chapter 16 or IRC Section R301.2.1.1, as applicable, and must not exceed the allowable values shown in Table 1. 4.3 Ignition Resistance: In jurisdictions adopting the IBC, when installed on exterior walls of other than Type V construction, the siding is permitted to be installed at a fire separation distance of less than 5 feet (1524 mm) in accordance with IBC Section 1406.2.1.1. 5.0 CONDITIONS OF USE The Foundry Premium Vinyl Siding products described in this report comply with, or are suitable alternatives to what is specified in, those codes listed in Section 1.0 of this report, subject to the following conditions: 5.1 Installation must comply with this report, the manufacturer’s published installation instructions and the applicable code. In the event of a conflict between the manufacturer’s published installation instructions and this report, this report governs. 5.2 Exterior walls must be braced or sheathed to resist racking loads with approved materials in accordance with the requirements of the applicable code. 5.3 The siding must be installed only on exterior walls covered by wood structural panel sheathing capable of supporting the imposed loads, including but not limited to positive transverse wind loads, and covered by a water-resistive barrier (IBC) or weather-resistant sheathing paper (IRC). 5.4 The Foundry Premium Vinyl Siding products are manufactured in Franklin, Ohio, under a quality control program with inspections conducted by Architectural Testing, Inc. (AA-676). 6.0 EVIDENCE SUBMITTED Data in accordance with the ICC-ES Acceptance Criteria for Vinyl Siding (AC37), dated December 2006. 7.0 IDENTIFICATION The Foundry Premium Vinyl Siding products described in this report must be identified by a stamp or label bearing the manufacturer’s name (The Foundry™), the product type, the statement “Conforms to ASTM Specification D 3679,” the name of the inspection agency (Architectural Testing, Inc.) and the evaluation report number (ESR-1728).
