Operating Jets and Fittings (a) Jet operation and cleaning Your jets should be taken out and cleaned on a regular basis. This is to clean the sand and grit out of the bearings and remove any blockages from the entrance port. Cleaning should be done using Bio-Guard “Swirl Away”. Make sure that jet is moving freely before re-inserting it. Moving your jets on and off every second time you have a spas can help with the cleaning of them and stop them seizing up. Your spas jets are interchangeable, and can be swapped over with any of the other jets. Turning your jets on and off is very simple. Simply grab hold of the outside of the jet face and turn anticlockwise to turn it on, and turn it clockwise to turn the jet off. Storm Range jets To remove your jets for cleaning purposes simply follow the directions and look at photo's opposite. Turn your jet anticlockwise like you are turning it on and then keep turning. It will make a snapping sound and then pull out. To put the jet back in simply reverse the process. Spas Instruction Manual ‐ 3 Operating Jets and Fittings IN GROUND & PORTABLE SPAS (b) Air control Your spas has been fitted with air controls to add air to the water jets. These air controls work by water drawing air into the jets water flow. This increases the water pressure from the jets. Follow the diagrams for the operation of the air controls. Note: Only open the air controls when using the spas. Close them off when not in use to maximise heat retention. Spas Instruction Manual ‐ 4 Operating Jets and Fittings IN GROUND & PORTABLE SPAS (c) Water diversion through hand operated valves Your spas may be fitted with a hand operated water diverter valve that will change the direction of the water flow. When the valve is turned fully to one side the water will be going to one bank of jets, e.g. hot seat, when turned fully to the other position the water flow will go to the other bank of jets, e.g. recliners. The handle only turns 180 degrees. A. Full pressure at jet bank one B. Half pressure between jet bank one and two Soak Mode C. Full pressure at jet bank 2 (d) On/Off valve for neck jets The smaller labelled “on/off” is for turning the 4 neck jets on and off. This valve can also be used to adjust the pressure of the neck jets without having to turn each one individually. This also applies to pools fitted with waterfalls; with the exception of turning of at the jet face. Spas Instruction Manual ‐ 5 Operating Jets and Fittings PORTABLE SPAS (e) Aromatherapy The aromatherapy, fitted on most of our spas, works by blowing air through the aromatherapy canister. This will happen automatically when the air blower is activated. You can increase the amount of scent by loosening the cap. Note: Make sure the cap is not completely loose, if the cap is too loose it will blow off with the force of the air blower. The beads provided have a life of about 3-6 months and can be replaced by opening the cap, while the blower is off, and replacing the packet of beads. Note: Do not tear open the bead packet. Spas Instruction Manual ‐ 6 Optional Extras Section 4 Spas Instruction Manual ‐ 7 Optional Extras IN GROUND & PORTABLE SPAS 4. Optional extras (a) Waterfalls Your spas may be fitted with a waterfall mounted onto the wall of the spas. This waterfall is turned on and off with a valve located directly above it. You can also adjust the amount of water coming out of the waterfall. (b) Infra red remote control If your spas has been fitted with a remote control, you will be able to turn your pumps, light and blower on/off from up to 10 metres away. These are only available on portable spas. Simply point the control at the water with a clear line of sight between the spas and the remote. You will notice a round sensor in the shell of the spas. This sensor is covered with a tinted film. The film may need to be wiped clean to remove dirt covering the sensor. (c) Strobe light Slow or rapid colour change controlled through the touch pad. Refer to control manual for complete operation. (d) Daisy chain mood lighting Mood LED lighting; set into the perimeter of the pools top edge. Displays a variety of colours and changes; can be set at various sequences. Refer to manual for operation. Spas Instruction Manual ‐ 8 General Pool Maintenance Section 5 Spas Instruction Manual ‐ 9 Maintenance Procedures IN GROUND & PORTABLE SPAS 5. Maintenance Procedures (a) Cleaning your filter cartridges The filter cartridges in the spas need to be cleaned every week, depending on usage. Your filter box is shown in the photos Steps 1-3. The procedure for cleaning the cartridges is very similar with both types. Follow the following procedure for your type of filter: 1. If your pool has a 24hr. management system; turn power of before removing filters. 2. Pull filter flap in towards the filter tray and lift front cover straight up and out, Step 1. 3. Remove filter tray, simply slide out to remove, Step 2. 4. The filter cartridges can now be removed, Step 3. *See Cleaning Cartridges Bio Guard System Note: Do not use the spas without the filter cartridges in the filter. Your filters should be cleaned with a garden hose on high. This will clean the filters reasonably well but will not remove fats and oils. Every fourth time you clean your cartridges you should soak your filters in a cleaning solution, e.g. Filter Brite by Bio- Guard. This product is a Muriatic acid and will break down the fats and oils. Note: Remember that the cleaner your filter is the cleaner your spas will be. Spas Instruction Manual ‐ 10 Maintenance Procedures IN GROUND & PORTABLE SPAS (b) Cleaning the shell surface It is a good idea to clean the shell surface whenever you drain the spas. This should be done every 3-4 months, when you drain the spas and replace the water. Cleaning of your spas shell should be done with care. No harsh abrasives should be used as they may scratch the surface of the shell. We recommend you use T-cut (car polish), Methylated spirits. We also recommend using Bio Guard “Off The Wall”. This product will kill any bacteria that have settled on the shell surface. These products can also be used to remove scum line. (c) Cleaning your hardcover To clean the hardcover use a sponge and a mild detergent in warm water. Vinyl rejuvenator is also available through our stores. Do not put any unnecessary weight on the cover. Do not drag across rough surfaces. Covers carry a separate 12month warranty, which excludes damage caused by misuse, neglect, shipping accident or normal wear and tear. We also strongly recommend using 303 Aerospace Protectant to protect from sun danger. (d) Timber cabinet maintenance Maintaining the timber cabinet of your spas is very important. The timber cabinet has been dipped during the manufacturing process in an anti-fungal, environmentally safe water based (stain). This dipping system allows the coating to penetrate every surface, stabilising the timber, preventing splitting whilst acting as an anti-fungal agent. For ongoing protection we recommend two coats of Lanark SpasKote to protect from exposure to weather. SpasKote is a unique penetrating oil which cleans up in water – it is made in Australia for local conditions. (e) Shelter and storage While the spas is built for outside use, the life of the cabinet will be extended if the spas is sheltered and protected from harsh elements. We recommend the spas cabinet be re-stained once a year. We highly recommend that you have a cabinet where spas chemicals can be locked away out of reach of children. DO NOT store chemicals in spas-cabinet. Spas Instruction Manual ‐ 11 Maintenance Procedures IN GROUND & PORTABLE SPAS (f) Ozone We use “24-hour filtration” ozone. Ozone is pumped into the water through a small jet near the bottom of the spas. When the ozone is on, a small stream of bubbles will flow from this jet. The jet operates all the time, even when the main pumps are not running; this is 24-hour ozone. Models with out 24 hour filtration; the ozone jet only works when the pump is on; then you have “filtration” ozone. 24-hour: This basically operates all the time without you having to do anything to activate it. The box that generates the ozone is located in the cavity of the cabinet. You will notice that it has a blue light on it. When this light fails you need to call our service centre. Filtration models only (no 24hr circ.) This works when the filter cycle is on. When you set your cycle, the ozone cycle will be set at the same time. For most spas up to 1800 litres, we recommend a cycle of about 6-8 hours. Ozone works by pumping 03 (or ozone) into your water through the stream of bubbles. This has the effect of killing bacteria in the water. This helps with your water sanitization. Note: Ozone will not be sufficient enough on its own without other types of chemicals. You must use a chemical programme in conjunction with ozone. With an ozone system, it is a good idea to open your hardcover for a short time to vent the under side. Venting the pool will help prevent any discolouration of headrests; it is advisable to remove them if the spas is not in use for extended periods of time. (g) Circulation Pump Pre Filter- (if fitted) During the general maintenance of your pool it may be necessary to clean the circulation pump filter. This is located in the cabinet in front of the circulation pump, in the vicinity of the main filter cartridges. It would be preferable to do this when the pool is empty or during a partial water change. As this filter is a protection device it may require cleaning while the pool is full, this can be done quickly, limiting the water loss by clamping off the inlet and outlet, to assist in the cleaning procedure. It may be necessary to perform this if a 3-dot error (On Gecko equipment) or an ERROR-1, ERROR-6 or H20 code is displayed. 1. The clear top unscrews exposing the stainless steel filter ring 2. Cover filter with hand to prevent spilling 3. Remove the cap 4. Replace the top to limit water flow 5. Clean filter with brush 6. Replace filter 7. Remove any clamps you may have applied Spas Instruction Manual ‐ 12 Maintenance Procedures IN GROUND & PORTABLE SPAS (h) Spas maintenance check list Owning a spas is fun and therapeutic, but more importantly we must look after our investment to keep it healthy and economical, thus avoiding unnecessary premature repair costs. Detailed below is a simple step by step procedure to follow. Fresh Fill procedure (using Perfect Balance): 1. Fill your spas with water. This should be done through the skimmer box or drain to stop air locks forming. 2. Set to desired temperature then turn thermostat down to lowest setting. 3. Test spas and ensure pH is between 7.2 and 7.8, also check that the Total Alkalinity is between 125 and 150ppm. 4. Make any necessary adjustments regarding step 2, add Perfect Balance at the rate of 500mls per 1000lts to your spas. This will lock in pH and protect the equipment. 5. Add your sanitizer as per initial dose instructions on the product. 6. Initial set-up is now complete. When do I drain my spas? If you use your spas once or twice a week, the need to drain will be less frequent than a spas owner that uses their spas three or more times a week. Therefore, it would be recommended that a spas be drained at least four times a year for less frequent use and six times a year for high usage. When re-filling your spas, do so through the skimmer box. Tip!! when draining and re-filling your spas, the cartridg/s should be cleaned, along with the spas surface jets and behind the headrests. The latter three can be cleaned using ”Swirl-Away”. Weekly maintenance (using Perfect Balance) 1. Add 50mls of Perfect Balance per week to spas. Your heater DOES NOT need to be off for maintenance doses. THIS MUST BE DONE EVERY WEEK to ensure pH continues to be “locked in” and equipment protected. 2. Using the test strips, ensure the pH and the sanitiser levels are within the recommended range (7.2-7.8 for pH, 2-4ppm for Bromine and 2ppm for Chlorine). Sanitising your spas Proper sanitation of your spas is important. Consult your local pool shop for the best advice regarding your spas. 1. Ensure you maintain sanitiser levels to product recommendations (refer to instruction on product) and use test strips to measure your sanitiser levels. 2. The advice and quantities given in this manual are current at the time of print. We advise you read and follow the instructions carefully that are printed on the product. ‘Shock Dosing’ your Spas Removing a build up of body fats and oils is important not only for health reasons but also for maintaining an inviting sparkling clear spas. When adding Chlorine Concentrate: 1. Remove cover from spas and leave off for a minimum of 1/2 hour. 2. With pump and filter running add 75mgs of Chlorine Concentrate per 1500 litre spas or 50mgs per 100 litre spas. This should be added once a week or after heavy use. 3. Continue to run spas for at least 1/2 hour as per step one. When adding Brominating Concentrate: 1. Remove cover from spas and leave off for a minimum of 1/2 hour. 2. With pump and filter running add 40mgs of Brominating Concentrate per 1500 litre spas or 25mgs per 100 litre spas. This should be added once a week or after heavy use. 3. Continue to run spas for at least 1/2 hour as per step one. Spas Instruction Manual ‐ 13 Maintenance Procedures BIO GUARD SYSTEM Cleaning the Cartridge/s Keeping the cartridge clean is important for a healthy and clear spas; and you will also prevent foaming if the cartridge is clean. Note: In the first 2-3 weeks of using your new spas, you should remove and clean the filters weekly. After this initial period, the cartridge/s should be cleaned every 2-4 weeks. 1. Turn off equipment, including pumps, and remove the cartridges. 2. Half fill the laundry trough or any other container that the cartridge/s easily fit into, and dissolve one (1) Filter Brite sachet per 20 litres of water (gloves should be used when cleaning the cartridge.) 3. Hose off any loose debris and soak the cartridges for at least 3 hours. For best results soak overnight. Tip: Having a second set of cartridges is handy as this allows you to put a clean cartridge/s on and then soak the dirty cartridges overnight. 4. When cleaning is complete, rinse off cartridge/s and keep aside if you have chosen to purchase a second set (as per tip) or replace in position and resume normal spas operation. Important tips to remember 1. After every use: turn venturi’s off and replace cover immediately (if chemicals not added) 2. If water quality is poor: clean filters and test and balance water, and run spas for 1 hour. 3. Every time you enter the spas: check If the jets turn or spin, if not; this could be due to a chemical build up (calcium). 4. From time to time: Protect your cabinet with oil when showing signs of weathering. Wipe or paint. Run in/off excess. 5. Fold back 1 side of cover to vent pool each day for approx. 30 mins. Other specific Bio Guard products 1. Cover Renew: Preserves and cleans spas hard cover, ensuring longer life of the cover. 2. Spas Perfect: A natural enzyme that prevents “bath tub ring” and digests body fats and oils as spas is being used. It helps to reduce overall product use. 3. Swirl Away: Excellent for cleaning internal pipe works of spas pools and spas baths. Chemical water treatment has advanced in technology, offering pool owners a wide range of products for the initial start and ongoing maintenance of the pool water. It is the pool owner’s preference to choose which product or water treatment kit best suits their needs. Lanark advise that the directions which are a part of your chemical kit should be followed carefully: as measured and dose rates may vary between products. ATTENTION POOL OWNER PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING FOR ALL 24 HOUR RECIRCULATION MODELS • Please ensure the power to your pool is turned OFF prior to removing the filters for cleaning. Failure to do so may result in debris ENTERING the recirculation pump. • This may damage the recirculation pump or require a service call to clear debris. • This is not covered under warranty. • Circulation pumps carry a 12 month warranty. Spas Instruction Manual ‐ 14 Maintenance Procedures POOL CARE • Use only common household, non-abrasive cleaners for most cleaning jobs. For normal care & cleaning use a soft cloth or sponge with soap and water. Rinse well and dry with a soft, clean cloth. If using a household cleaner, make sure it is recommended for use on acrylic by the manufacturer. • Never Use Abrasive Cleaners • Clean grease, oil, paint, and ink stains with isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol. Dry with a clean soft cloth. • Avoid using razor blades or sharp instruments that might scratch the surface. Small scratches can be removed by applying a thin coat of automotive paste wax and buffing lightly with a clean cloth. • For deeper scratches, sand the surface lightly with 600 – 800 grit “wet or dry” paper and buff with fine grit buffing compound.
