ELECTRIC CONNECTION, INC. Keith P Ellis, President & CEO Electric Connection has been formed to provide the Electric Utility Industry an independent resource for information and education on Power Transformers and their accessories with a particular focus on Bushings. The following three services are tuned to meet the needs of Utilities throughout the United States and Canada. Services offered: Transformer Training: Bushing Consulting: Transformer Failure Investigations: At your location, for as many of your people that need training, Electric Connection is offering 7 four hour training tracks; Electric Connection is offering its’ expertise in transformer bushings to Transformer Consultants that may need, from time to time, help when their client has an uncommon question or issue with any brand of bushing. When a transformer failure occurs and the bushing is a suspect, the Utility needs an independent bushing expert that can help them manage the investigation and reach the root cause of the failure. Four tracks covering detailed aspects of transformer performance, construction, testing, installation, operation, inspections, maintenance, and field diagnostic tests. Two tracks covering detailed aspects of bushing designs, technologies, selection and replacement. One track covering Load Tap Changers, including Reactance, Resistance, In-tank and on-tank models, including design, construction, performance, maintenance and testing. With more than 25 years of comprehensive bushing experience; Electric Connection will be able to supplement your Transformer Consultant’s bushing knowledge, insuring that they meet all your expectations. The original transformer OEM and bushing OEM have a vested interest in the outcome of the investigation. Electric Connection can provide the experience to insure that the bushing will get a complete examination regarding the root cause of the failure. If the Utility requests Electric Connection to get involved with a particular bushing question or issue on direct basis, Electric Connection would be available to work with them as their Bushing Consultant. Working with the transformer OEM and bushing OEM; Electric Connection will provide the independent eye that will prevent a rush to judgment before all avenues have been investigated. Electric Connection and its industry recognized associates provide their many years of power transformer experience for these training tracks. Electric Connection is offering the Consulting services on an hourly basis at competitive rates. Keith P Ellis, President & CEO I have worked in the transformer industry from 1971 to the present. Since 1986 I have concentrated my efforts on transformer components with expertise in bushings and on-load tap changers that are applied to power transformers. I am a long time member of IEEE, PES, Transformers Committee, Bushing Subcommittee, past Working Group Chair for C57.19.00 and active in many other product related working groups. I am an active member of IEEE 693, Seismic Substation Standards. During my nearly 40 year career in the power industry I spent 22 years with one company and the remaining time with another company. The first company started out as RTE/ASEA and ended up as ABB Power T&D Company and the other was Emile Haefely & Company and ended up as Trench Ltd. Starting in 1986 I have devoted all my efforts selling, marketing and promoting transformer components. I became the leading expert on load tap changers for ABB in the US, achieving numerous sales awards on worldwide basis. I helped move production for the type UZE OLTC from Sweden to the US. While with ABB I worked with the bushing engineers in Sweden to develop a line of IEEE standard bushings for the US market. Before the project was complete ABB purchased the Westinghouse T&D business, making this effort unnecessary. My last position with ABB was Sales Manager for the Components division. I was than recruited by Haefely of Switzerland to develop a line of IEEE/ANSI standard bushings for the US market. This effort began in 1992 and was completed by 1995 with bushings from 25 kV class to 500 kV class, 1800 kV BIL (basic insulation level). In 1995 I conceived a new concept in IEEE standard bushings that has revolutionized the bushing industry; low voltage, high current draw lead bushings. The key to the success of this new concept is that it is interchangeable with the old type of fixed conductor bushings so that existing power transformers can be converted and have all draw lead connect bushings. The new line of IEEE standard bushings became so successful that by the end of 1995 it was agreed to move production of the new IEEE standard bushings to Canada. I spent 1996 and half of 1997 in Canada transferring the bushing technology to Canada, laying out the new plant, teaching people about bushings and continued to promote and sell bushings throughout the US. During this time I wrote all the instruction manuals, sales brochures, developed the technical order number system for the bushing line and administered all pricing and supply contracts with large OEM accounts. With my work completed in Canada the company moved us back to the US, to Nashville, TN where I was made Bushing Product Manager and OEM Sales Manager, Americas providing technical bushing support for customers and managing sales to all OEM accounts in the Americas. Over the past 10 years I have been actively promoting bushings with silicone rubber insulators (SRI) and today, SRI bushings are an important aspect of Trench’s bushing business. I have had published numerous bushing papers through organizations, such as IEEE, Doble Engineering, TJ/H2b, INMR Conference and for internal use. Lastly and most important has been my years of education in what today is called compliance training. This provides me with advanced knowledge regarding ethics, diversity and compliance in every business facet and transaction. 641 Kingsway Drive Office: 615‐847‐2157 Cell 615‐847‐2308 Old Hickory, TN 37138‐2313 Email: keithcota@aol.com Website: www.electric‐connectionco.com 2
