Apply now for a 2016 Māori and Pasifika Trades Training Scholarship. Study on a trades
qualification with a scholarship towards your fees at WelTec or Whitireia. Our training is delivered
in a setting that reflects real workplaces.
Māori and Pasifika aged between 16 and 40 are invited to apply for a Trades Training Scholarship which will see you
fully equipped to enter the workforce with a relevant pre-trade qualification that will really lead you places. Equipped
with a qualification, Passport to Work and the tools** to do your job, you will be supported to achieve your very best
and realise your goals.
Whitireia and WelTec have joined forces with Iwi, the Pasifika community, Industry Training Organisations and
employers across the Wellington region to ensure you have every opportunity to complete your programme of study,
find work and enter a New Zealand apprenticeship in your chosen career.
We’ll be doing everything we can to make sure you’re on the pathway to success. Wrap around services to scholarship



Learn a mix of theory and practical skills needed to enter an
apprenticeship in the construction industry. You’ll learn to construct
floor and wall framing, fix roofing, cladding and internal linings, fit
windows and hang doors. Develop hand tool and power tool skills,
safe work practices and increase your knowledge of building codes,
construction standards and regulations.
Learn about make-up, cosmetics , beauty products and
hairdressing. Gain essential theory and practical experience
during salon days and other promotional events; practice
on real customers. This programme includes the National
Certificate in Hairdressing (Salon Support) (Level 3).

The Certificate in Foundation Studies (Level 3) programme,
specialising in painting, will give you all the key skills needed to
begin work as an assistant to a painter within the construction
industry. With experience and further study you can progress to a
qualified tradesperson in a team or become self-employed. Other
building industry jobs, such as plastering or tiling, are also an option.
Designed for those wanting to learn skills and enter careers in the
brick laying, block laying, tiling or paving industries. You will learn
how to interpret plans, consult with clients and work on a range of
practical projects.
This certificate provides students with knowledge of how to
interpret drawings and specifications for building work. Students will
learn safe worksite practice in preparation, through to finishing off a
paint system in a practical tertiary education setting.
