The Hartnell College Registered Nursing (RN) Program is a 4-semester course of study consisting of classroom, high-fidelity
simulation, and clinical experiences. Graduates are eligible to take the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN). After
passing, graduates may practice as registered nurses in a variety of acute and community-based settings.
Success in the Registered Nursing Program is based upon theoretical knowledge, nursing skills proficiency, clinical reasoning,
professional behaviors, and their application in the clinical setting. Students must achieve at least “C” grades in all nursing courses.
Additionally, students entering the Registered Nursing Program must have essential abilities and skills in five categories: CognitiveConceptual, Behavioral and Social Attributes, Communication, Sensory, and Motor. These capabilities must be demonstrated in the
clinical, laboratory, and classroom settings. A full account of essential capabilities and functional requirements can be requested.
Because of the rigorous coursework and the considerable clinical time commitment, it is highly recommended that students complete

Applying to the Hartnell College Registered Nursing Program:
Selection is based on criteria established by the Hartnell College Nursing Program and the California Community College Associate
Degree Nursing Prerequisite Model for Admissions to Nursing Programs. The criterion includes college GPA, English GP A, and core
science GPA for anatomy, physiology, and microbiology courses with an overall Biology GPA of 2.5 or higher. Biology GPA will
be reduced for each W, D, F and/or repeat by <.33> within 7 years of courses taken. No grade less than “C” will be accepted.
Healthcare-related experience or completion of a certified nursing assistant course is not required, but recommended. A minimum score
of 62% on the standardized pre-readiness for nursing assessment exam (ATI TEAS V) must be obtained to be considered for acceptance.
If the ATI TEAS is taken more than once, the highest score will be considered. Scores within 2 years of the application submission date
are acceptable. ATI TEAS V information can be obtained at www.atitesting.com.
Students must meet the minimum requirements for admission eligibility:
Hartnell College Application for Admission is available online at www.hartnell.edu/admissions
The RN Program has a separate admission application process. Applications are available December 2014 on-line at
www.hartnell.edu/nursingandalliedhealth. Applications are due early Spring 2015. Late and incomplete applications are not
considered and therefore will not be reviewed. It is the student’s responsibility to adhere to published timelines and to seek advice
from counseling faculty.
Completion of High School or equivalent: official high school transcripts or equivalent required. Proof of completion must be submitted
with the RN application. Foreign high school graduates must have transcripts evaluated to determine if equivalent to US high
