theme Community Based Human Development for
Sustainable Society. Community Learning Center
(CLC) is a grass root organization established by
Ministry of Education in Nepal. CLC are called as
Kominkam in Japan. This World Conference was
held from 9-12 October in Okayama, Japan. City
of Okayama invited me as a paper. I presented my
paper entitled “Social business: as option for CLCs
to sustain financially and creating self employment
for youths for community development.”
It has been a decade that I started community
development activities in Pharping region
through community college, school, NGO, women
empowerment etc. Few Years back We established
Community Learning Center. While working
with these prestigious organizations working in
very crucial social agenda, I found myself very
much engaged in society. These organized really
helped my academic, personal and professional

was invited for International Conference. I really felt
proud of our initiatives, activities and the agenda
that we are working in grassroots. I also felt that
there are so many people who are looking after our
work; I learn that we have to continue our effort in
community, country will reward us.
I reached Japan on 8th October. There were 700
participants from 29 countries from around the
world. On 9th October there was grand opening
session of the conference by Mayor of Okayama, Mr.
Masao Omori. There were many experts who shared
their country reports related to ESD promotion.
Experts in the field of literacy, environment
conservation, education, community development,
climate change etc shared their expertise to explore
the knowledge to the audience. It became a good
platform for CLC-Kominkan to share their ideas in
international platform. They share opportunities,
challenges, learning and future steps how CLCs
could cope up in different countries in different
situations. Hundreds of presenters presented their
papers based on CLC-Kominkan with special focus
on ESD. Literacy, Education, Cultural Diversity,
Environment, Disaster Risk Reduction, Income
Generation, Policy Making, Empowerment etc
were main topic for the presenters.
In January 2014, I visited Japan for first time in
Asia Future Youth Project Conference in Okayama
held by Conference of International NGO Network
(COINN). Nepal National Commission for UNESCO
(NNCU) facilitated my visit for this first time. That
time I presented the draft concept the above
paper. The organizer and funding partner of that
Conference, City of Okayama really liked my draft
paper presentation and they invited me to present

I presented in the topic of Income Generation,
Entrepreneurship and Community Development.
Presenting in this kind of conference is life time
experience and l earning for me. It became very
crucial for our organizational network, learning
and expansion of project for future. I also became
type of cultural exchange for the visitor. During my
visit, I visited Saidaiji Kominkan where I presented
my paper. I also got opportunity to visit River
Management Project of Japan in Okayama.
In totality, this visit became very much crucial for
me, my organization and Pharping community as
a whole. The network has been elaborated with
more Kominkan/CLCs, Japanese Government and
Non Government Agencies also those agencies who
have been working in community development
sector. A National Conference is going to be held in
Nepal in 2015 January as a result of ESD Conference
in Japan. This conference will share the learnt ideas
to Nepalese CLC. A Japanese NGO COINN is hosting
this conference.
Finally, I would like to thank NNCU, Non Formal
Education Center, UNESCO Kathmandu and all
concerned agencies who have helped Shikharapur
CLC grow to this stage and also promoting for
