From the editor
A new year – surely it is supposed to
be nice and fresh with none of last year
problems?
No, unfortunately not.
We still have internet problems,
money problems, strikes at universities,
loved ones that are sick, people strapping bombs on themselves and blowing
themselves up, pain and suffering and so
forth.
Yes, that is all still there. But… God’s
grace and peace are given to us newly on
a daily basis.
Every year people say this is the year
that I am going to overcome my… eating problems and lose weight, my drug
addiction, my alcohol problem, money
problems etc.
Come the end of the year, it is still
there. Why?
I can only speak out of my own experience, otherwise the readers may think I
am judging, which I will never do.
We as humans were created by God
with a will.
We choose to be better, or not.
We choose to stop drinking or smoking,
or not.
We choose to apply a healthy lifestyle,
or not. There are two wills in our lives,
God’s will, and ours.
If you allow your own will to reign,
then you will never overcome.
In the bible in Romans 7 v 15-26 it
mentions that Paul wants to do the right
thing, but finds himself doing the wrong
thing.
Is it easy to live by God’s will only?
NO… definitely not. Is it possible, YES…
it is. But there is a condition attached
thereto.
If you want God to reign in your life,
you have to let go of you stubbornness,
your arrogance and independence.
You have to ask God to stir up a hunger
for His word, you have to be dedicated to
walk the path with Him.
We always say we don’t get time.
Do a test, just once. Write down during
the day what you spend your time on,
DO NOT FEAR
“Isaiah 41:10 NKJV -FEAR NOT, for
I AM WITH YOU; Be not dismayed, for I
am your God.
I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help
you, I will uphold you with my righteous
right hand.”
See what the Lord tells Isaiah, His prophetic voice at a point on the journey.
WHEN the Lord Himself is on earth, He
states the following important truth,
which will be vital for His Church
that He will build over centuries to understand.
He will lead and protect them as a
shepherd does for his sheep.
John 10:11 NKJV - I am the good
shepherd.
The good shepherd gives His life for
the sheep.
Do you know of any other god that gave
up his life for YOU?
John 10:14 NKJV - I am the good
shepherd; and I know My sheep, and am
known by My own.
The clarity of His promise of peace is
there.
Are you one of the sheep that wandered off?
John 16:33 NKJV - These things I have
spoken to you, that in Me you may have
peace.
In the world you will have tribulation;
but be of good cheer, I have overcome the
world.”
PAUL in his writing, builds on his experience of this reality, constantly encouraging the church.
God is the same ALWAYS, His promises is still relevant to us.
II Timothy 1:7 NKJV - For God has not
given us a spirit of fear, but of power and
of love and of sound minds.
~ The battlefield is in our mind, focus
on Him and He will help you to overcome.
Philippians 4:6-7 NKJV
Be anxious for nothing, but in everything
by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known
to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your
hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
The truth is fact and relevant even today!
He is with you. He is in control, but…
where are you?
Gregory Dewar
Are you feeling alone, rejected by society? Are you fearful for our future of our
country, or even for the world’s?
Famine, drugs, floods, drought, murder, greed, corruption, trials and tribulations portrayed on every television, radio
and electronic media device.
Are you feeling swamped with all this
negative feelings and do not know your
future?
Well, then there is GOOD NEWS for
you!
Your bible is an incredible compilation
authored by the Holy Spirit , together
with the Father, the Son, through 40
different people, who lived on earth at
various times during Jesus journey with
mankind .
There are wonderful promises of God’s
presence and faithfullness through mercy
and grace to His people, woven through
the tapestry of the scriptures.
God promises protection, peace and
plenty of love and power.
It is for us to live abundantly and to
love one another, assisting us to develop
the required patience and perseverance
for the journey.
All these promises require is… YOU!
Early on in the journey of the Lord with
mankind He used Moses as His vessel.
Note the significance of these words of
Moses to Israel, God’s chosen people at
that time.
We are all part of the plan and picture
that the Lord is painting.
Exodus 14:13-14 NKJV
And Moses said to the people, “DO NOT
BE AFRAID. STAND still, AND SEE the
SALVATION of the LORD, which He will
accomplish for you today.
For the Egyptians whom you see today,
you shall see again no more forever.
The Lord will fight for you, and you
shall hold your peace.
Psalms 32:7 NKJV
YOU ARE MY HIDING PLACE; You
shall preserve me from trouble; You shall
surround me with songs of deliverance.

by the Lord, SPEAKS OF HIS GOD.

and analyse it.
How much time do we spend in God’s
presence? A quick prayer in the morning,
and a rushed prayer if the pawpaw hits
the fan.
In times of intense pain and trouble,
we ask: “God where are you when I need
you?”
The question we should be asking
is: “God, where am I when I don’t have
trouble?”
How much time do you spend in a day
in His presence?
Have you ever sat in stillness and
asked Him to speak to you?
My desire for this year is to know Him
better, to give more, to do more for Him,
but above all to pray more and learn
the scriptures, so that I will hear His
voice more clearly, so that my words can
change to: “God, when you need me, I will
be there, I am available.
Is there still good in our
world???
Today is Sunday. Church is over, and
once again I am alone on my patio overlooking the green mountain slopes.
A gentle breeze wafts around the corner, cooling the air, while the tree leaves
dance and frolic, in its wake.
I notice my father’s photograph. His
kind eyes twinkle merrily, reminding me
of Sunday as a child.
My Dad was a deacon at the local
church and, as a young child, one of my
biggest treats would be to accompany
him early. I would often watch my wonderful Dad go about his tasks.
My Dad had a way of making others
feel safe and secure, while constantly seeing and bringing out their best...
Everyone was created by God - His
handiwork, and worthy of respect, care
and trust. He taught this, by action, word
and deed.
During the 1983 explosive accidents
at AECI , many died! My Dad’s unit was
the only one to be absolutely casualty
free due to high standards and good,
diligent training!
One day my Dad voluntarily took the
last highly explosive piece of nitroglycerine single-handedly across a narrow
bridge away from the other staff, so that
they could be safe!
They watched him mesmerised, knowing that just a single nervous tremor
could set it off, killing him, and others...
He succeeded! Heroically he saved
many lives!
As I sit here, remembering him, I am
once again inspired... One good, noble
and heroic person can indeed make a
good difference!
My Dad’s teachings and loving example
live with me daily, inspiring me to keep
going, no matter what, remembering
that, in spite of all the evil around us,
in the words of Desiderata “it is still a
beautiful world”!
I know of another Father that accepts
and love us unconditionally. Our heavenly Father who gave the ultimate sacrifice
for you and me, His only son!

Losing weight permanently
Have you ever wondered why some
people can eat anything they want
without gaining weight?
Overweight? Tired of empty promises of quick weight loss, that never
comes to reality? Do you repeatedly
shake off some extra kilos, just to
gain what you have lost and more,
after a period of time?
Research estimates that 75% of overeating is caused by emotional problems.
Emotional eating is when you consume
large quantities of food, usually junk
food in response to feelings like boredom,
rejection, loneliness and so forth.
Emotionally eating unhealthy food
does bring a sense of comfort, short term,
but the consequences of being overweight
outweighs the temporary sensation of
pleasure of the food in your mouth.
Being overweight creates feelings of
unworthiness, failure and shame.
The health risks involved with being overweight are well known and well
researched.
Diabetes, high blood pressure, high
cholesterol, kidney and heart problems to
name a few are all consequences of being
overweight.
However, there is good news.
Dr. Roeloff van Vuuren and his wife
Maria, have recently initiated the world
acclaimed, highly successful Slender
Wonder weight loss program in Graskop, after receiving training.
This programme has to be presented
and monitored by a qualified doctor.
In an interview with GPS News Maria
said: “there just is no reason for you to
not lose weight provided you stick to the
regime 100%!
“Once you have set your mind to it,
your mental attitude really is much more
powerful than any temptation.
This is not a diet.
It is a weight loss programme, a lifestyle change. It will reward you if you
understand why you could not previously successfully lose weight and keep
it down.
Take food and subsequent unwanted
weight gain out of the equation by
identifying what triggers predispose to
emotional eating and substitute it with
more appropriate techniques to manage
emotional problems.
´*HWWRWKHURRWRI\RXUÀJKW
against fat.”
One of slender Wonder’s success
secrets is the significance of Leptin.
Leptin is a master hormone in the body
that controls hunger and feelings of
satiety.
The good news is: if you’ve failed at
diets or health changes in the past you
most probably suffer from inadequate or
dysfunctional leptin hormone.
Leptin resistance and its related problems are complex factors involving the
endocrine system.
Sensitising the hormone to function
properly again, requires more than
simple calorie restriction or will power.
It is achieved by daily injection of another hormone and metabolism enhancers daily for certain periods of time as
well as following a well researched low
calorie intake programme with some essential supplements, anti-oxidants ,etc.
Patients are weighed and measured 2
weekly and counselled throughout.
“We are committed to walking the road
with you, providing emotional and motivational support.
Your success is our success.
This is a scientific based programme
which will restore your image of yourself,
and within as little as 3 months, you
should attain your target weight ... and

Jesus Cares
Glen Cormack
There are so many examples one
could quote concerning incidents or
events where the residents of Sabie have
reached out to help others in one way or
another.
Each little incident contributes to
making Sabie the most caring community I have lived in throughout my many
years.
Even though we are a relatively small
town, the businesses and the people of
Sabie never fail to amaze me.
It is not just the more fortunate that
always helps others but even those that
could themselves benefit from some form
of assistance.
St Peters Church conducts a project
each Christmas to reach out to less fortunate children.
This Christmas the focus of the project
was to put together gift packs of basic
school stationery for young children.
A total of 97 gift packs were donated
and distributed through the Ubuntu
Community Centre just before schools
opened in 2016.
It is truly rewarding to witness the
appreciation on the beautiful faces of the
children who benefited.
A great big “Thank you” to all who
assisted, not only with this project but in
all the other acts of giving.
A special thanks to those who were at
the heart of this project.
Many people suggested that the project should begin earlier in the year to
allow for gift to be “built-up” throughout
the year.
Please keep your hearts open to this
call.

Kyk, as daar nou een ding is wat Old
fees.
Net, hulle tafelmaniere is erger as die
van ’n klomp honger koshuiskinders.
Nou, dis waar Old Man River inkom.
Hy versamel mos vlieëplakke soos ander
mans hoedjies versamel.
vleismes dreig.
bul in ’n China shop.
En daar tref die tragedie ons.
Old Man River het ’n woeste aanloop
nader gehardloop.
“Oupa Koekie!” gil hy opgewonde en
laat loop met die hundreds and thousands.
Oor Old Man River se gesig, in sy klere
in, sommer orals.
Teen hierdie tyd sit ek plat op my gat
man gaan help skoon kry voor ons kon
eet.
Jy hou by local. Ek gaan groot...”

The rain keeper
Jannie Heynecke (87), “Oom Jannie, or
MaBroekOne” as he is lovingly called is a
legend in Sabie.
He has a staggering 117 years of daily
rainfall data recorded.
He is also the person that has been living the longest in Sabie, since 1926 that
then had a population of only ten people.
The gathering of the rainfall statistics
started in 1966 when he owned a transport company.
He would call the forestry offices on a
daily basis to establish whether it rained
to ascertain if the trucks could go into
the plantations.
One day one of the foresters said to
him to get his own rain meter, and that
is how it started.
He is still using the same book from
1966.
He obtained the daily rainfall data for
1949 to 1965 from various forestry stations, as well as from the archives of the
old TGME mine in Sabie.
He arranged for all the data to be put
onto computer for safekeeping for the
generations to come.
His daily routine starts by going down
into the garden to the rain meter and to
record the rain of the day.
Fifty years of meticulously recording
the daily rainfall figures, without fail.
“When we went on holiday, my garden
assistant would pour the rain of the day
into a bottle and seal it with a label with
the date thereon.
When we came back I would measure
it and record all the different bottles
data,” said oom Jannie.
He has such a vast rich experience of
information and memories of Sabie and
its development.
He still remembers how it came about
that Sabie has water coming from an
underground source.
They started excavating a tunnel from
the mine big enough for the donkeys to
pass through.
On the other side they started digging
another tunnel towards the mine’s and
when they reached each other, sweet
crystal clear water came out.
Even today the water is crystal clear.
He mentioned that: “the municipality
pumps the water into the reservoir, and
then add the chemicals.
It is in these big tanks that algae and
other harmful bacteria gather that sometimes makes people sick, it is not in the
underground water.”
With the current terrible drought in
South Africa GPS News enquired from
oom Jannie how our situation is in town
regarding drought.
“Because it is so green, everyone
thinks that we do not have drought, but
that is not so. In a 10 year period we had
the least rain last year.
It is what we call a green drought.”
He concluded with: “My only concern is
who will have the dedication to continue
my project when I am not here anymore?
I am not young anymore and I want
someone that will conduct the daily
recording with the same vigour and passion as I do.”
Rainfall statistics:
1992 – 648mm
2000 – 1847mm
2003 – 623mm

Sybrand achieves 100% pass
Kopano Dibakwane
Sybrand Van Niekerk High School in
Sabie achieved a 100% pass rate in the
2015 Matric results.
The principal, Franscois du Toit told
GPS News that the school has secured
a reputation, in the previous years, of
ensuring a 100% pass rate for all.
This achievement is according to du
Toit due to the hard work by learners
and utmost dedication from the teachers.
“All our 113 matriculants have passed
their final year exams and 44% (51)
qualify for university studies and that is
wonderful, said du Toit.
“The quality of the pass is very special.
We were ranked number eight in Mpumalanga out of 545 Secondary schools.
Our top learners got bursaries and are
already in university.”
Du Toit attended an award ceremony
in Amsterdam (Gert Sibande Region) on
January 6, where Sybrand van Niekerk
was recognised amongst other schools in
the province.
“We have been in the top ten over the
years and to maintain this achievement
is a challenge as consistency is not easy,
continued du Toit.

“It’s all about dedication from teachers

Twenty matric learners at Pilgrim’s
Rest Secondary School achieved a 90%
pass rate with four Bachelor’s passes.
Based on subject averages, the top
achiever was Harmonic Mitchell, followed closely by Prince Khoza and
Cyprian Maile.
All three learners are enrolled for tertiary education at Technicons.
The two distinctions in Sepedi were
obtained by Tumelo Malapane and Dineo
Dibakoane.
Teddy Motswane, (Principal), expressed his disappointment at not
repeating last year’s 100% pass.
However, the 90% pass rate is well
above the Mpumalanga average of 70%,
and one should also consider that this
is this is a very small school serving a
disadvantaged community.
The achievement was made possible partly through the sponsorship by
Transvaal Gold Mining Estates of two
additional teachers.
The 36 learners in matric this year
is the largest group the school has ever
had.
Motswane is confident that good results will be possible through hard work
by learners and teachers as well as support and supervision by parents.
He has already had a meeting with the
learners’ parents to discuss what contribution they can make towards their
children’s success.

intention to declare greenhouse gasses as
priority pollutants on Friday, January 8.
The Minister also issued a draft National Pollution Prevention Plans Regulations in regard to greenhouse gasses.
The greenhouse gases to be declared
as priority pollutants include Carbon
dioxide (CO2); Methane (CH4); Nitrous
oxide (N2O); Hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs);
Perfluorocarbons (PFCs); and Sulphur
hexafluoride (SF6 ).
Companies conducting certain production processes which involve the direct
emission of greenhouses would in future
have to submit and implement pollution
prevention plans for greenhouse gases.
These regulations would affect companies involved in coal mining, production
and/or refining of crude oil, production
and/or processing of natural gas, production of liquid fuels from coal or gas,
cement production, glass production, ammonia production, nitric acid production,
black carbon production, iron and steel
production, ferro-alloys production, aluminium production, polymers production,
pulp and paper production and electricity
production (combustion of fossil fuels,
excluding the use of back-up generators).

Kiepersol Coffee
Study Group
Lianda Naudé
The Kiepersol Coffee Study Group held
their first meeting of the year on January 13 at Burpak in Kiepersol.
During the meeting the committees
for the Coffee Nursery and the Cultivar
Development were elected.
Werner Schroeder will act as the coordinator for the Nursery Committee and
Theuns Anderson as the coordinator for
the Cultivar Committee.
The following individuals were
nominated for both committee’s; Andre
Swanepoel, Danie Fourie, Lizette Schroeder, Frans Grey, Ruan van der Westhuizen and Schalk Schoeman.
Hansie Willemse presented a discussion on coffee cultivation.
Willemse started farming with coffee
in Zimbabwe in 1965 and his coffee beans
were sold to the Zimbabwean government.
He planted a Kenyan variety of the
coffee plant.
Flood irrigation was used initially to
water the plants but subsequently the
drip or micro irrigation method was
implemented.
During those early years, they removed any coffee plants that were
infected with the white coffee stem borer
as there was no other control method
available to farmers.
After the harvest the seeds were
fermented in crates covered by plastic
sheets at night to retain heat.
After a period of 12 to 48 hours the
jelly-like tissue around the seed would
loosen after which the seeds were
washed and dried on wire racks covered
with hessian.
The next meeting of the Coffee Study
group will take place on March 9 with
the venue still having to be confirmed.

Drought Disaster Fund
Lianda Naudé
The prevailing drought, accompanied
by high temperatures, is one of the worst
natural disasters experienced during the
past 20 years.
The consequences of the drought have
a negative impact on the economic survival of many farmers.
This in turn could result in food shortage for rural communities.
A Drought Disaster Fund was initiated
late last year by Senwes in association
with Agri SA.
The fund is now managed solely by
Agri SA with Senwes becoming a major
donor in the form of R1million to the
fund.
“Agri SA’s main concern is to ensure
food security so that the nation’s citizens
will not go hungry, “said Omri van Zyl,
Executive Director Agri SA’s.
“The effects of this devastating
drought will be felt for years to come,
and all corporate entities, not just the
Agri-sector needs to be involved in this
project.”
Christo van der Rheede, Agri SA’s
Deputy Executive Director, is responsible for the fund which includes the
disbursing of funds as well as fodder to
farmers in need.
The fund presently stands at R1 878
353.78.
The majority of donations were made
by ordinary South Africans via thousands
of SMS contributions. Significant contributions were also made by companies
including; Beefmaster, Voermol, Sanlam,
Monsanto, Grainovation, Overberg Agri
and FNB.
Spoornet and other transport companies have also indicated that they are
willing to ferry fodder in support of the
Drought Disaster Fund.
Donors can support the fund by utilising one of the following channels; EFT,
credit card, cheque debit cards, SnapScam or premium tariff SMS at R30 per
SMS.

Vandag was nie ‘n ek-voel-goed-dag
nie... Maar ‘n moeg-moedeloos, alles-voelna-moeite-dag. Daarby saam sluimer
skuldig-voel-gedagtes moeiteloos in my
agterkop... omdat ek juis só voel... En dit
terwyl ek alles weet... Dat God beslis in

Dat alles ten goede sal uitwerk. Dat
God ‘n plan het met my. Dat daar soveel
opwindende dinge vir my voorlê die jaar.
My verstand en my wete wéét dit, maar
vandag vóél my hart, my wese, my ék, dit

Ek is moeg gewag vir nodige afsluiting. Ek voel nie lus vir die aanpassing
wat lê en wag na afloop van die huis-volkinders-vakansie nie.
Ek voel hoe word my hart bietjie vir

So vóél dit... Ek weet ek is nie alleen nie,
maar vanaand voel ek so... moeg, alleen,
kan doen, verander my voel-sleg-dag in
‘n alles-is-okay-dag. Soos wat die sagte

my siel verkwik en verfris.
Ek voel hoe ek in groen weivelde

word waar daar net vrede is... Ek voel
hoe ek weer nuwe krag kry... Ek weet
én voel veilig by my God in wie se hand
ek stewig rus...

A visitor to Alanglade House Museum
experiences a trip back in time to the
graceful opulence of the early 20th Century.
As this museum lies just outside the
actual village many visitors to Pilgrim’s
Rest are not aware of this charming attraction.
During a recent meeting Lisa Sheard,
Executive Director of Kruger-Lowveld
Tourism, described Alanglade House
as one of the gems of Pilgrim’s Rest, a
museum of world-class standard.
It is also the largest free-standing
museum in Mpumalanga.
“Fantastic.
Very, very lovely.” said Francesco
Tanzarella during a recent visit to the
museum after having been encouraged
by his parents not to miss it when in the
area.
The house was built in 1916 as the
residence of the manager of Transvaal
Gold Mining Estates.
Richard Barry and his wife Gladys
were the first occupants of the house
which was used by mine managers until
1972.
The décor of the 900 square meter
building reflects the time during which
the Barry’s lived there until the1930’s.
Furnishings and objects on display represent the Edwardian, Arts and Crafts, Art
Nouveau and Art Deco periods.
One of the Barry’s daughters, who
were still alive when the museum
opened, donated furnishing and household objects which were used by the family while they resided there.
Alanglade was decorated as it would
have been when people lived there and
while moving through the rooms one
almost expects to encounter a member of
the household.
The experience is enhanced by the expert knowledge of the guides who provide
details about the various unusual period
pieces.
This information is further coloured by
stories about the way of life and experiences of the Barry family and their
household staff.
Alanglade House can only be visited
with a guided tour.
Tours are offered during the day at
fixed times or by prior arrangement and
in the evening it forms part of the exciting Pilgrim’s Rest Ghost Tour.
Tours can be booked at the Pilgrim’s
Rest Information Centre in Uptown. Tel:

Rhino poaching progress report
Lianda Naudé
Edna Molewa, Minister of Enivironmental Affairs, presented a progress
report on the fight against rhino poaching in South Africa on January, 21 in
Pretoria.
“The onslaught against our rhino
has continued unabated,” said Minister
Molewa.
“This has necessitated that we step up
our efforts, which are among others, the
improvement of our strategies.
This approach has delivered a number
of satisfying results over the past year,
particularly with regards to the number
of arrests made.
”During 2015 a total of 317 poachers
were arrested for rhino poaching related
offences.
Of this, 202 were arrested in the Kruger National Park (KNP) and 115 in the
area adjacent to KNP.
This is a marked increase in arrests
from 258 in 2014.
A total of 125 firearms were seized
inside the Park in 2015, and 63 just outside the Park – a total of 188 compared
to the 148 of the previous year.
“By end December 2015, a total of
1 175 rhino was poached of 826 were in
the KNP.
That is 40 less than the previous year
total of 1 215.
According to the Minister this lower
figure indicates that anti poaching interventions are working even
though there has been an approximate
ten percent increase in the number of
poaching activity in the KNP.Molewa
also provided feedback on the rhino horn
moratorium judgement handed down by
the High Court of South Africa, Gauteng
Provincial Division, Pretoria, on November, 26, 2015.
The judgement set aside the moratorium on domestic trade in rhino horn.
Judge M F Legodi signed the order after
hearing the application for the lifting
of the moratorium by John Hume and
Johan Krüger in the Pretoria High Court
from September 21 to 23.
John Hume owns a wildlife ranch near
Malalane and another breeding farm in
North West province.
Subsequently an application for leave
to appeal was filed with the Registrar
of the High Court on December, 9, 2015.
The application suspended the operation
and execution of the judgment in terms
of section 18 of the Superior Courts Act,
2013 (Act No. 10 of 2013).
“Our application for leave to appeal was unfortunately dismissed with
costs on the January 20,” said Minister
Molewa.
“The result being that the moratorium
is no longer in place. My legal team is not
yet privy to the reason for the decision,
but I have decided to apply for leave to
appeal to the Supreme Court of Appeal.
My application, once lodged, will result
in the suspension of the operation and
execution of the court’s decision to review
and set aside the moratorium.”
The Minister emphasised that this
matter does not have an impact on the
international trade in rhino horn for
commercial purposes.
Commercial international trade in
rhino horn is still prohibited in terms of
the provisions of the Convention on
International Trade in Endangered
Species of Wild Fauna and Flora
(CITES).

Helpende Hand help
Solidariteit Helpende Hand bied in

weer Groceries for destitute families
veroorsaak.
In 2016 se skooltassie is daar uitdraaikryte, inkleurboek, legkaart, , inkleurpotlode, grys potlode, liniaal, skerpmaker, skêr, uitveër, gom, pennesakkies, en
witbord met penne.
Die waarde van die inhoud is ongeveer
R800.

Ginosta Trading, renovation contractor, and “Enough is Enough” worked
together to provide gifts to poor families
in the Pilgrim’s Rest Community.
Grocery parcels to the value of over
R1000 were handed to three Pilgrim’s
Rest families who have no income.
“Enough is Enough” is a local concerned
group and they identified the families in
most need of assistance.
Ginosta Trading recently won a contract to renovate three houses in Pilgrim’s Rest.
Owner, Gino Khoza, agreed to support
the local community by donating three
gift parcels to the poor for each of the
three houses being renovated.
Lillian Molobela
(Treasurer, Enough is
Enough), Doris Mathebula
and Thabo Moraba
(Committee Member,
Enough is Enough).
“I am so happy that there are still people who think about those in need” said
Doris Mathebula who is looking after two
grandchildren and a grocery parcel.
“I did not have anything to put in the
pot for the children.
It came at the right time because
January is a very difficult month.”
She also hoped that others in need
could be supported in the same way.
Joseph Khumalo (Chairman, Enough
is Enough) pointed out that there are
many destitute families in Pilgrim’s Rest
due to job losses over the past few years.
“We appreciate the generosity of Ginosta
Trading and hope that future contractors
will follow their example,” said Khumalo.

“The event was a success,” said Mohlala. “I would like to thank everybody who

members who participated.
We also saw a lot of parents who came
to support the children.”The contestants were dressed by Felicida Fashions
Speaks.
The crowns and tiaras were contributed by Irra Pillay, a former second princess Mrs Mpumalanga. “I also want to
thank the judges; Manda Gomez, Sanele

“The pageant winners will automatically be entered into the Miss Lowveld
2016 which is sponsored by Manda

The queens in each category visited
Lizzy Orphanage in Zwelisha on December 24.
This was for a Christmas party dedicated to underprivileged children.
The visit teaches the queens to give
back to the community by showing
encouragement towards children living
without the affection of parents.
Mohlala encouraged young models
from Matibidi, Hlabekisa, Leroro, Pilgrims Rest and Sabie to participate in
this year’s Miss Graskop beauty pageant
scheduled to take place on April 2.

Amateurs train with Steval Pumas
Nine local amateur players were given
the chance to train with the Steval Pumas.
This training will take place the Steval
Puma’s annual sic week pre- season
period at the end of the 2015 season.
The local club players are; Jacques
Kotzé(White River Rugby Club), PhuleSibiya (White River Rugby Club),
Damien Jansen van Rensburg (Nelspruit
Rugby Club), Lloyd Malatji (Nelspruit
Rugby Club), four Puma u21 players,
Johan Gericke, Dylan du Buisson, Bennie Mashabane and Wian van Schalkwyk
and Ian Truter (a u19 Puma player).
“Everyone thinks it’s easy to do the
sport they love on a permanent basis,”
said MJ Mentz, head coach, Steval
Pumas.
“During this trial period these play-
ers soon realized that it’s hard work to
maintain top form throughout the year.
It was great to see these players having
fun, blending in and working hard for
the three possible six month contracts we
have available for the first round of the
2016 Currie Cup fixtures.”
At the end of 2015, Leighton van Wyk,
a former Blue Bulls u21 player also on
trial together with Damien Jansen van
Rensburg and Jacques Kotzé were asked
to stay on between January and July.
“The idea with the short term contracts
is to give these players some game time,
” commented Mentz.
SARU has not confirmed final dates
for the new season, but it should be
available in the next couple of days.
The first round of the Currie Cup will
start on April 9until end of July.

Sports program for children
Barco van
Heerden with
Christine van
Wyk.
Marlet Ireland
Playball is a sport and development
program for children.
It offers a multi-skill programme of
sports activities, fundamental movement
skills and games for children aged two to
eight years.
The curriculums follow a progressive
pathway from the basic building blocks
of jumping, throwing, rolling, etc, to mini
games of tennis, hockey, cricket, etc.
The continuous scientific study behind
Playball shows that the type of activities
the children takes part in accelerates the
neural pathway development between
the brain and the body.
This has a marked impact on how
children will perform cognitively as well
as physically at school.
Several nursery and pre-schools in
Hazyview utilise this program and
recently acknowledged the skills of their
toddlers.
Dienkie land Nursery School, Beertjie School, Mickey Muis, Smurfs and
Imphilo Entsha New Life Pre School
handed out medals with a certificate of
accomplishment to each of their toddlers.
For more information on this program
contact Elize Le Roux on 083-357-6655.
