SPELLING/VOCAB ACTIVITIES
1. Have someone give a spelling test to you at home. An adult must grade the test and sign it. (You
may also use SpellingCity.com) Write any words that you misspell on the test five times each.
2. Write all of your spelling words in a continuous line to form a picture or a design. Use each spelling
word at least three times.
3. Write each spelling word five times.
4. Write your spelling words and Wordly Wise words in ABC order (in one list).
5. Use puzzlemaker.com (or any other puzzle making website) to make a word-search puzzle that
includes all of your spelling words plus five other words, then complete the puzzle.
6. Create a cartoon strip using all 10 spelling words. Highlight each word used.
7. Write a poem using all 10 spelling words. Underline each word used.
8. Divide each spelling word into syllables, using a dictionary.
9. Draw a picture of all of your spelling words. Write the words under each picture.
10. Write similes and/or metaphors using all of your spelling words.
11. Classify your spelling words according to their part of speech, using a dictionary.
12. Write a conversation between two people that includes all of your spelling words. Underline each
word used.
13. Compose 4 declarative (.), 4 imperative (command), 4 interrogative (?), and 4 exclamatory (!)
sentences using at least one spelling word in each. Underline each word used.
14. Write a newspaper article using all of your spelling words. Underline each word used.
15. Use each spelling word, plus five other words, in a sentence that shows its meaning. Underline each
word used.
16. Write a short story using all of your spelling words. Underline each word used.
17. Copy the pronunciation, part of speech, and definition of each spelling word, plus five other words,
from a dictionary.
18. Make a crossword puzzle on graph paper that includes all of your spelling words plus five other
words. Include the definition or a sentence for each word as a clue, and a word bank.
19. Develop a television commercial using all of your spelling words plus five other words. Write out what you
would say. Make it exciting! You are trying to sell something! Underline each spelling word used.
20. Create a menu for a restaurant using all of your spelling words plus five other words. Be creative!
