Monthly Board Meeting
Thursday, April 3, 2014
MINUTES
1. Call To Order—P. Eidt, Chairman called meeting to order at 6:01 pm
2. Roll Call—Secretary-Members present: C. Cimarik, R. Girard, T. Moore, E. Flynn, and P.
Eidt and C. Collins @ 6:40. Others: R. Warner, C. Kitchen, C. Riehm
3. Approval of Minutes—P. Eidt- Vote Required. Change the date on the Business
Breakfast from April 27 to the 29th.
4. Board-General Updates—P. Eidt
a. New Business1. The 2014 DDA Christmas Party - the party would be to thank the various committee
members. The invitees would include these members, Department Heads as well as the
Mayor and Council. May also include the DDA’s Building Owners It will be held at the
Lionheart Performing Arts Center and will be invitation only. The DDA will not have their
actual meeting in the month of December.
2. April 11th is BBQ & Books at the Bleu House Market –a fundraiser for the Mayors Book
Club. E. Flynn suggests that the DDA place barrels to collect books in the downtown
merchants place of business. P. Eidt would rather volunteer in some way to help collect
the books rather than using taxpayers funds to support the project.
3. Update on the Cotton Gin—There is a person that would like to rent the warehouse space
as an art gallery and also use the apartments as a live/work space. P.Eidt is waiting on the
possible tenant to provide a business proposal etc.
4. P. Eidt, R. Warner, J. Davis and C. Riehm are talking about the DDD being expanded from
Cemetery Street up to Summerour Middle School. R. Warner would like to see the DDA
expand the DDD. T. Moore suggests expanding a little at a time. Discussion is tabled until
next month’s meeting.
5. C. Cimarik to speak to M. Wilkerson about the possibility of decorating Buford Highway
area for the Holidays.
5. Citizen Input-None
6. Council Update—Attending Councilman-C. Riehm talks about the QT coming in to the
City at the corner of Peachtree Parkway and Holcomb Bridge Rd. This is a “Use by
Right” zoning. C. Riehm says that if the landscaped and it has a new concept that it
may be alright.
7. Treasurer’s Report-C. Collins.—Very few expenditures this month. Will bring full
report next meeting.
8. Economic Development—R. Warner—has had postcards and flyers made to advertise
the Business Breakfast. This event present R. Warner with a year’s worth of business
leads.
9. Downtown Manager Report—C. Kitchen—T Fowler’s July 3rd proposal to the DDA is
denied. DDA would want to have input into the July 3 rd City run event and will not
give money to anything that they do not have input in.
10. Parking Update—C. Riehm. Karen Youngblood says that businesses downtown are
beginning to park on South Peachtree again. C Kitchen to email merchants with a
gentle reminder.
11. Design—T. Moore- Presented the picture of what the end of the Cotton Gin would
look like It is a old time photo of the cotton gin printed on vinyl and applied to the
siding . The doors are real wood and resemble barn doors. The end of the building will
cost about $3,500.00. Timeframe for completion is around 30 days. P. Eidt makes a
motion that T. Moore should proceed with project as long as the bill does not exceed
$5,000.00 C. Collins 2nd motion.
12. Promotions—E. Flynn—E. Flynn tells board members that the 10 x10 tent with flaps
and sidewalls with logo will cost approximately $1,500.00 Economic Development will pay for ½
of that cost. P. Eidt makes the motion to accept the cost of $750.00. 2 nd by E. Flynn.
12. Adjourn Motion to adjourn at 7:40 pm. by P. Eidt and 2nd by E. Flynn
