AMERICAN FIRE SPRINKLER ASSOCIATION: Contest opens in September. To be eligible, students must apply

ASSOCIATION OF FIRE DISTRICTS OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK: Deadline: March. Applicant must be

AXA ACHIEVEMENT SCHOLARSHIP U.S. NEWS & WORLD REPORT: Deadline: Limited to the first 10,000
applications. Site opens in September, apply early at www.axa-achievement.com. Scholarship winners are
known as AXA Achievers. They are ethnically and economically diverse, but they share these qualities: ambition
and drive, determination to set and reach goals, respect for self, family and community, and ability to succeed in
college.
BETHPAGE FEDERAL CREDIT UNION FOUNDATION DOLLARS FOR SCHOLARS: Deadline: December.

BIG SUN SCHOLARSHIP: Deadline: June. Big Sun offers an annual scholarship to a deserving student in the
amount of $500. The successful applicant will be a high school senior attending a post secondary institute and

BP COMMUNITY SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM: Deadline: May.
Scholarships will be awarded to qualifying high
school seniors. Grades are only one factor being considered. Work history, community involvement and financial
need will also be considered. Interested students are invited to visit the scholarship website at

COCA-COLA SCHOLARS FOUNDATION: Deadline: October 31. Two hundred fifty awards will be given to
students based on biography, questionnaire, essays, recommendations and transcripts. Students must apply on

DANTE FOUNDATION OF NASSAU COUNTY, INC.: Deadline:
February. Several $5,000 scholarships will be
awarded to students of Italian-American descent. Candidates must reside in Nassau or Suffolk County and must
have achieved high standards in the academics, participated in extra curricular activities and scored above average
on SAT exams. Applications are available in guidance in February.
DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR. BIRTHDAY CELELBRATION: Deadline: November. Three different
scholarships given to seniors who answer the essay question: “How have the accomplishments and legacy of Dr.
Martin Luther King, Jr. affected or impacted my life and society? Essay must not exceed 750 words. Please pick

Public Scholarships
GATES MILLENNIUM SCHOLARS: Deadline: January. Please visit http://gmsp.org in September to begin
application online.
This scholarship program will select one thousand students this year who choose one of the
six graduate majors: engineering, education, library science, math, public health and science. Students are eligible
to be considered if the are African American, African Indian/Alaska Native, Asian Pacific Islander American or
Hispanic American.
They must have a cumulative GPA of 3.3 and have demonstrated leadership abilities through
participation in community service, extracurricular or other activities. Applicants must meet the Pell Grant eligibility
criteria. Eligibility for Federal Pell Grant can only be determined through the submission of a Free Application for
Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to the U.S. Department of Education, Federal Student Aid Programs).
GE-REAGAN FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM: Deadline: January. This program awards 20 collegebound students who demonstrate exemplary leadership, drive, integrity, and citizenship with $10,000 a year

GOOD DEED AWARDS FOR LONG ISLAND TEENAGERS: Deadline: March. These awards are open to all
students in grades 9-12 regardless of race, color, religion or affiliation. The National Committee for Furtherance
of Jewish Education of Nassau County will award LI teenagers for their fine example of good deeds, kindness and
their pioneering activity in the transmissions of value and identity. Applications are available in guidance in
September.
HISPANIC SCHOLARSHIP FUND: Deadline February. Scholarships are available to Hispanic American students
and range from $1000 to $2500. Students must have a minimum cumulative weighted GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale

HISPANIC SCHOLARSHIP FUND AND GOT MILK?: Deadline: December. Applicant must be of Hispanic
heritage, U.S. citizen, planning to enroll full-time in two or four year institution. Please visit

HORATIO ALGER ASSOCIATION: Deadline October 25. This association is awarding more than $4 million in
college scholarships this year to assist students who have demonstrated integrity and perseverance in overcoming
adversity. To qualify you must have at least a 2.0 GPA and require financial assistance. www.horatioalger.org
JAY’S WORLD CHILDHOOD CANCER FOUNDATION, INC. Deadline: April. To be eligible for this scholarship the
student must be either cured of cancer / in remission / or able to attend college while undergoing treatment. The
applicant must be a graduating senior and a New York State resident.

JENKINS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FOR TEACHER EDUCATION: Deadline: January 15. The purpose of
this scholarship is to assist outstanding students in preparing for the teaching profession. Criteria are based on
character, personality, academic achievement, and potential teaching ability. To be eligible, students must be
preparing for a teaching career, plan to attend a SUNY college for a baccalaureate degree in education or plan to

JOHN F. KENNEDY PROFILE IN COURAGE ESSAY CONTEST: Deadline: January. First place winner receives
$10,000, second place $1,000. Open to High school students: write an essay on an act of political courage by a

KFC COLONEL’S SCHOLARS PROGRAM: Deadline: Application online will be available from December 1
through February 1. Scholarship could be as much as $5,000 per year for tuition, fees, books, room and board.
This scholarship is to assist students with financial need who plan to pursue a bachelor’s degree at a public
institution within their legal state of residence. To qualify, a student must be a high school senior, maintain
cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher, attend a public, in-state college or university and plans to obtain a bachelor’s

KOHL’S CARES SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM: Deadline: March 15. Kohl’s Cares Scholarship Program is offering
scholarships to students in two age groups: ages 6-12 and ages 13-16. Students must have contributed to the
community in a meaningful way by volunteering services that have helped non-family members. Financial need or
academic performance will not be considered in the review and selection of winners.
Kohl’s plans to recognize
one student from each age group as a store winner for each Kohl’s store. Store winners will receive a $50.00 gift
card. Additionally, over two hundred $1,000 regional scholarships will be awarded along with ten $9,000 national

LONG ISLAND CADDIE SCHOLARSHIP FUND: Deadline: June. A candidate must have served a minimum of
two summers as a caddie or in another job in the “service to golf” at a Long Island club or course. Such other
jobs would include working in a golf shop, clubhouse or on the grounds crew. For an application call the LICSF

LONG ISLAND TWO DAY WALK TO FIGHT BREAST CANCER: Deadline: April. This organization raises funds
to support breast cancer research, resources and services on Long Island. Men, woman and children walk to
honor the memory of those who have lost the fight against breast cancer and show their undying support for those
have or will be diagnosed with this decease. The Walk to Fight Breast Cancer Scholarship provides a one-time
grant of $2,500 to a full-time graduating senior who has applied and been accepted to a two- or four-year college
or university, trade or vocational school. The student must reside with a parent, guardian or relative who is a

NASSAU COMMUNITY COLLEGE FEDERAL OF TEACHERS CARLINO SCHOLARSHIPS FALL SEMESTER’S
TUITION & FEES: Deadline: July 15. This scholarship will be given to a full-time day student that has graduated
from high school and enroll as a full-time day student at NCC with a program emphasis in Math, Computer
Science or Computer Information Systems. The applicant must have graduated with at least a 3.0 cumulative

NASSAU COUNTY CHAPTER OF THE NYS SOCIETY OF PROFESSIONAL ENGINEERS HENRY J.
CAMPBELL, JR. SCHOLARSHIP: Deadline: May.
Scholarships in the amount of $5,000 will be issued to
qualified students interested in pursuing engineering careers. Outstanding high school seniors in Nassau County
are eligible. To qualify you must have a minimum SAT Math score of 600, Verbal of 500 and a minimum GPA of
3.0, extracurricular activities, volunteer involvement and part-time employment.

NASSAU FINANCIAL FEDERAL CREDIT UNION: Students must be college-bound high school seniors at the time
of application, attending college for the first time in the fall of 2012 and must be members of Nassau Financial.
Applicants will be judged based upon their academic achievements, extracurricular and community activities and the
quality of a written essay. Membership at Nassau Financial is open to every student in Nassau County. It is free

award is to recognize an outstanding leader in your PTA who, by his or her actions, inspires other to volunteer and

1st deadline will be considered for the Ron Brown Scholar Program and will have their application information
forwarded to a select and limited number of additional scholarship providers. Scholarships will be awarded to

achievement and extra-curricular activities.
THE MARIA A. SCIARA SCHOLARSHIP FUND: Deadline: April. This Scholarship is a one-time award of $500
to a high school senior who aspires to be a teacher and resides, or resided, with a mother or guardian who is, or
was, affected by cancer (other than breast cancer). The applicant must be enrolled in high school full-time, be a
graduating senior, and have applied and received acceptance to either a two – or four-year College or University.

THE
SUMMER HOPE FOUNDATION A MOTHER’S GIFT SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM: Deadline: April The purpose
of Summer Hope is to raise cancer awareness, raise funds for cancer research, and provide financial and social
support to cancer patients and their families. One way that Summer Hope is helping families affected by cancer is
through the Mother’s gift Scholarship Program. The scholarship will provide aid towards the cost of a college
education for one male and one female graduating high school senior, whose families have been personally
touched by cancer. Applicant must be a graduation high school senior in Nassau or Suffolk County, New York.
They must also submit an essay describing how their life has been affected by cancer. Award recipients will each

ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIPS: Deadline: February.
The Joel S. Pollack Memorial Scholarship. An award of
$2,500 will be to a student in the graduating senior to be used towards expenses at the college of their choice.

To be eligible for this $2,500 award, applicants must have

WE CARE FUND-NASSAU COUNTY BAR ASSOCIATION: Deadline: January. Selection of the WE CARE
Candidates based on: character, involvement in school and community activities, leadership in school, community,
academic achievement, personal perseverance to excel in light of extreme and challenging life circumstances.
Senior student must be a Nassau County resident and be enrolled in a Nassau County school and planning to
pursue a degree at an accredited U.S. post-secondary institution.
WHELAN
FOUNDATION is offering two (2) $10,000 scholarships per year to a deserving senior continuing his/her
education in college studying special education. All of the information is on their website at

ZETA PHI BETA SORORITY,INC, IOTA THETA ZETA CHAPTER SCHOLARSHIP: Deadline: February 1. To
learn more about the organization visit www.zphib1920.org . Applicants must hand in all required documents to
guidance office by February 1st. Each applicant must submit an essay of at least 250 words but no more than
500 words covering the following: describe how you have demonstrated leadership ability both in and out of
school, pick an experience from your own life and explain how it has influenced your development, and please
describe your college and overall career/personal goals. Each applicant must also submit two letters of
recommendation, one from school personnel and the second could be from a minister or community leader.
Applicant must have an 80% or better average. Winner must be able to attend Womanhood Scholarship Brunch
on March 17, 2013 in order to receive the award. Application forms available in guidance.
