Our School and Community
Located at the foot of Pikes Peak on the west side of Colorado Springs, Colorado overlooking Garden of the Gods,
Coronado opened in 1970 and is one of four high schools in Colorado Springs School District #11. Colorado Springs is
home to the United State Air Force Academy, Colorado College, University of Colorado Colorado Springs, Pikes Peak
Community College and the Olympic Training Center.
Coronado is a comprehensive high school for grades nine through twelve. Coronado is accredited by the Colorado
Department of Education and is home to several award-winning Academic, Arts, Career & Technical, and Vocational
programs including: AVID, Choir, CU Gold Succeed, FIRST Robotics, Orchestra and Jazz Band, Project-Lead-the-Way,
ProStart, STEM Academy, and Teacher Cadet. The school is a member of the Rocky Mountain Association of College
Admission Counseling, the College Board, the Colorado School Counselor Association, and the Colorado Council on
High School/College Relations.
Student Government, Sports, and Clubs
Coronado supports its students and student organizations in their academic and community endeavors. A dynamic Student Government encourages school spirit through activities and participation, 22 boys’ and girls’ seasonal sport teams,
and 27 student-directed organizations from Cougars Care to Yearbook, provide a wealth of opportunity for our high
school community. Many of Coronado’s clubs encourage competitions both locally and state-wide, and opportunities for
community service are endless.
