the simple O2 Mobile Web application which is available from
www.o2.co.uk/mobileweb. These manual instructions are intended for
advanced users or IT Managers who wish to create manual settings.

PDAs on ø Mobile Web
This document is a generic description of how to configure Microsoft® based
PDAs to use ø Mobile Web. The operating system covered is:

Introduction, notes and basic settings
The procedure outlined in this document is not guaranteed to
work with all GPRS devices or system configurations. The process
has been tested with recently (from 2002) released mobile phones
and has generally been found to work.
For other operating systems, the settings below are the minimum
settings required to facilitate connection.
Step 1: Do you have everything that you need?
You need the following hardware and software in order to successfully use Mobile Web:
• Pocket PC 2002 i.e. Compaq™ iPAQ 3970
• GPRS mobile phone
• A subscription to ø Mobile Web.

Power on PDA
• Select Start (the Windows ICON in top
left corner)
• Select New
• Select Settings

These instructions should be followed in order to configure a
Pocket PC with a GPRS mobile. By following these instructions
step by step, you will be able to configure a Pocket PC to use ø’s
Mobile Web service.
• Data Bits: 8
Parity: None
Stop Bits: 1
Flow Control: Hardware
• Select TCP/IP
• Enter O2 Mobile Web as the
connection name
• Select Connections
PocketPC 2002
• Port Settings (Connection Preferences)
should show the following:
• Select Generic IR Modem from the
drop down box
• Select Baud Rate 57600 From drop
down box
• Select Advanced..
• Ensure only Use server assigned IP
address is selected
• Select Name Servers

• Select OK
• Select OK
• Select Dialling Locations
• Select Connect
• Enter the following in the DNS fields
• DNS:
Alt DNS:

• Select OK
• Select Next
• In the username field enter username
• In the password field enter password
• Tick Save password
• Select OK
• Enter *99# as the telephone number
• For Siemens S45 enter *99***1# as the
telephone number
• Select Next
• Select Dialling Patterns
• Select Cancel if not connected within
120 seconds
Enter the following in each field
• Uncheck Wait for dial tone before
dialling
• For local calls dial: G
• In the Extra dial-string modem
commands field enter
+CGDCONT =1,"IP","MOBILE.O2.CO.UK"
• For International calls dial: G
• For long distance calls dial: G
• Select OK
• Select Finish
