CSU General Education/Breadth Requirements
FLC may certify a total of 39 units of lower division general education. Students are encouraged to complete lower division major requirements as
part of their 60 units required for transfer. These requirements can be found at www.assist.org. It is important to meet with a counselor in
selecting courses to determine the most appropriate courses to take depending on transfer institution and major. Students should request
certification of their CSU GE prior to transfer. Courses listed in more than one area can only be used in one area for certification except courses
listed in area B.

Minimum requirements to transfer to a California State University (CSU) campus with Junior
standing:
 Complete 60 transferable semester units. It helps to complete lower division major
requirements. These requirements can be found at www.assist.org.
 Complete at least 30 semester units of CSU General Education courses with a “C” grade or
better.
 Have a 2.0 G.P.A. in all transferable units attempted.
 Be in good standing at the last college or university attended.
 Complete the following CSU General Education areas with a grade of “C” or better:
o A#1—Oral Communication
o A#2—Written Communication
o A#3—Critical Thinking
o B#4—Quantitative Reasoning
AB/IB/CLEP
Advanced Placement (AP), College Level Examination Program (CLEP), and International
Baccalaureate (IB) examinations are appropriate for inclusion in the General Education breadth

Special Notes for CALIFORNIA STATE UNIVERSITY SACRAMENTO:
1. CSU Sacramento requires 3 units to meet their Race and Ethnicity Graduation requirement. The
following FLC courses are approved to meet this requirement: SOC 321, COMM 325 PSYC 368.
These courses can also meet CSU General Education Certification requirements.
2. Students with catalog rights of Fall 1992 or later must complete of 3 years of the same language
in high school with a grade of “C-” or better or complete a second semester college foreign
language or sign language course with a grade of “C-“ or better. Students pursuing a BS in the
following majors are exempt from this requirement: Business Administration (all concentrations);
Chemistry/Biochemistry ; Computer Science (all concentrations); Engineering: Civil, Computer,
Mechanical, Electrical and Electronic; Construction Management concentations; Health Science:
Community Health Education, Health Care Administration and Occupational Health and Safety
concentrations; Kinesiology: Athletic Training concentration; Nursing; Physics; Recreation:
Recreation and Park Management and Recreation Therapy concentrations. See a counselor for
other Foreign Language Proficiency options.
3. Students with catalog rights of Fall 1992 or later must complete CSUS’s English 20. The following
FLC courses meet this requirement for CSU Sacramento: ENGWR 301 & 302. These courses
also meet the AREA A#3 requirement on the CSU General Education Pattern.
Remember to make an appointment with your FLC Counselor to have your CSU GE certified
prior to transferring!
