parents? As college employees, we are all required to protect the privacy of our students’ information. This
presentation addresses the basics of the Federal Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) on protecting student
information in accordance with the law and local policy. You’ll learn the purpose of FERPA, definitions of key
terms, what information can be released or cannot be released without written consent, and best practices for
ensuring your students’ information is protected.

Bits and Bites: API Faculty Unveiled

This session is an opportunity for attendees to obtain “bits” or information about the Asian Pacific Islander (API)
community, our API faculty and students and their individual and/or family migration stories. In addition, attendees
can sample small “bites” of some API culinary treats.
One of the presentations will include Professor Joanne Chen’s 2016 Spring sabbatical leave project report on
integrating culture into the Chinese language class. Join us for a Chinese tea ceremony to explore the tea drinking
culture. Participants will have a hands-on experience of Chinese tea tasting along with Chinese brush painting,
calligraphy and floral arranging. Professor Joanne Chen will also demonstrate the technology tools she used from
